A Diary of me

THE HOUSE

     Chapter 2Winter sat at the back of the car wishing Dad never lost his job, she was just sad about moving to Nigeria of all countries to move to which she knew is her country but then hearing a lot of bad things about this country isn’t appealing at all. As Mr Segun finally located the house his brother described and he drove into the estate to his new house seeing the smile on his wifes face all he could say was ‘’ I’m glad she is happy’’ .

   When the wagon came to a stop Kate jumbed out of the car all she said was ‘’ this house is so beautiful ‘’ bigger than the one in London Segun replied. Surprisingly Winter was amazed by the house and couldn’t wait to see the inside, “I want a big room painted navy green” she said. Hearing that her father knew she liked the house, smiling at her he said “ it’s a good start”.

   After settling down and arranging somethings using Uncle Bayos help, Mum made cupcakes for the neighbors which is a tradition anytime we move to a new place well this time I don’t want to deliver cupcakes to the neighbors not sure the neighbors will be hospitable. Meanwhile I have a room to paint and arrange, thanks to Uncle Bayo he had paints in his trunk and surprisingly he had a color close to navy green which is manageable. I got chatting with Uncle Bayo about a lot of things as he helped me paint my room, now I can boast that I have an uncle and cousins that I’m yet to meet. Back in London I never had cousins, uncles or aunts because mum was the only child and I never really met my grandparents, they died in a car accident a year after I was born. Now I can’t wait to meet the other family members especially my Nigerian grandparents, knowing that I will be taught the culture as Uncle Bayo told me and probably will have to change my name to my tribal name which is “Oluwapelumi” given to me by my dad. It took me time to learn that name.

        Waiting for the paint in my room to dry I’m so tired and hungry, going down to the kitchen to get something I notice that the arrangement is different from how mum usually arranges her kitchen and dad is cooking that is really rare. “This is really new” that’s all I could say.
