Chapter 2

1019 Words
The early morning sun broke the darkness from the horizon. As its light set the sky ablaze, early birds flew above and sings their happy song. A smile crept from my face. As the other half of my men take over for the day shift, others go to their respected place to take a rest. Just as I was to take the pager, Bill appeared on my side. With coffee and toast on his hand. Smiling brightly like the sun. “Hey good morning Captain!” he greeted “Good morning to you too mate. How’s sleep?” I asked him. “It made me better. How ‘bout you here?” he really seemed to be better now. Looking freshened up. “As usual. Getting more excited as the time pass by. We are near the end of the quest. Maybe I’ll just stay up here and take a little nap while you drive. I’m not going to miss the evidence of the King of the Captains.” I wriggled my brows up and down. He chucked upon hearing me say that. The aroma of the strong coffee invaded my nostrils. I closed my eyes as I inhaled the scent deeply. As I took a sip of the sweet liquid, as it ran smoothly to my throat calming my stressed body. As soon as I finished my breakfast, I headed to my room to get my special stuff, my instincts told me so. I took out my emergency bag and I stuffed the draw string bag Ellie gave me. Just in case. I think this would be helpful. I took a bath and changed my clothes into a tight leather outfit as if I’m going for a swim. As I closed the zipper, I picked up the emergency bag and strapped it secure around my body. I made sure it will never be parted from me. I kicked on my leather boots and now, I really look like a captain from the past with a modern touch. I knowingly smile in the mirror in front of me. And head straight outside. And I saw my men happily singing and roasting fishes they caught using line. “Why are you strapped Captain? We ain’t goin’ to a war are we?” One of my men with a blue shirt and tan skin shouted. “We are not Josef. But just in case. I feel like being a real Captain today.” I headed to their direction. The smell of the fish made my stomach grumble. I picked up one stick and ate. It’s now 12:00 noon. A perfect time to take lunch. I headed straight to the kitchen and found the foods cooked already. “What a perfect timing Captain! I just finished cooking those. I even cooked your favorite dish.” Phi happily announced. “Thanks Phi.” I started to get a plateful. The juiciness and the perfect blend of taste made me really full. I barfed as I drank the soda in can, finishing my perfect lunch. I went out to check on what Bill was doing. “Captain! We have now arrived at our destination.” Showing me the tracker and the plotted map. We are really here. “Should we dive now?” I asked. “Let our men check the area first. We don’t know if the area is safe.” And he was really right, Bermuda Triangle was never a safe place. That’s why no one succeeded in this quest. And you’ll ask me why I did this and why am I doing this insane quest. But let me tell you this, it’s more of like a thirst quencher. This is a big chance and a big opportunity for me as one of those seafarers who conquered these depths of the ocean to prove something to the humanity and to make change in how we see and how we think of this great history. “Is everything clear down there?” Bill shouted to one of our men that searched the area. “Yes. Clear water and stable current. I think this must be our lucky day.” He replied from below. “Captain, I think it’s time to dive down.” Bill said that made me nod. After gearing up, we started to dive in the clear ocean water. And I don’t really know what awaits us down below. Before I took a plunge deep, I stared at the sun high risen above. And hoping that this will be God’s perfect time for my dream come true. I was really hoping that this will not be the last time I see the sun up high, feel its heat on my skin and the gentle wind that blows softly. I took a deep breath as I put on the oxygen mask. And there behold was the beauty of the world hidden deep on these crystalline waters. Stretched miles and miles deep down. Fishes of different sizes and their colors were not the usual ones that we see on a daily basis. As I go deeper, I get sight of a sunken ship with covered with lichens and its body was buried into the sand. I took a step on the part where it used to be the structure for the sails. As I roamed my eyes around the water, many of those alike were scattered but none of them looked like the King of the Captains ship. My men called for me with the use of a hand sign. Well, maybe something caught their attention. I swam going to their direction but I was pulled by an extreme force that made me stop midway going to the location of the gang. I struggled hard as the force gets stronger and stronger. But my body went just limp and exhausted from the struggle. As if a great force from the ocean floor sucked me in including the waters and other things. I cannot breathe properly anymore. I felt many painful blows as I continued to sink deep in the unknown darkness. Is this my end already? I guess so too. I looked up once more and I see a little ray of light. If hope exists in the world, then I’m hopeful.
