I snapped out of the trance the very exact moment he did. I pulled away from him, my eyes burning with embarrassment, but Satan looked unfazed. He always did. Like nothing mattered to him and nothing ever affected him. But my heart kept beating like I had run a damn marathon. Swallowing the very last of my reputation, I gripped the spoon filled with rice in my shaky hands and started chewing it. I didn't look at him. And for a change, he wasn't looking at me either. His attention was solely on his food now. As if it's the most delicious food of the month. The food was delicious, but not interesting enough to make his nose pressed in it the entire time. Maybe the proximity between us affected him as badly as it affected me. For a second, I had forgotten the line Satan had drawn that day. That I was just a human on probation period. Paying for being extremely curious. But when he stood so close to me, it didn't feel like we had any difference. If anything, the moment felt comfortable. Instead of being uncomfortable, his proximity made me breathe the wildest air at the most serene pace. "Chew slowly, human. And the food is hot. Be careful." He said after a minute. This time he was looking at me and my eyes blinked at his words. "I... I know how to eat, Satan. The food was just too hot to swallow." I said, the stinging on my tongue still making me feel its presence. And I heard him snapping his fingers and a glass of juice shifted towards me, making me look at Satan, for the first time since we ended our proximity. And his fiery eyes made me feel every bit of emotion I had vowed not to feel again. "Drink this. It will soothe your burning tongue." He said, and I slowly gripped the glass and pressed my lips against the rim of the glass to take a sip of the sweet fruit juice. "Keep the juice in your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing it. It will help with the burning." He said and I obliged. And it did help. "Thank you." I whispered, smiling softly at him, and his body stiffened, but he nodded his head, nevertheless, and resumed eating again. The rest of the dinner went silently. When I was done with the dinner, I grabbed our utensils before dumping them in the sink before running water on them. He was keenly looking at me the entire time. I could barely look his way. His intense fiery eyes made it difficult to look into them, and even if I did, it was harder to snap out of the magic his eyes had. "Come to my room when you're done with washing the dishes, human. We'll continue with the lesson on Greek." He said, getting up to leave, and I simply nodded my head and waited until he left me alone. To make me breathe out a sigh of relief. Even when his proximity calmed me down. It scared the s**t out of me. When I reached his room, he was no longer in the cloak he was wearing. But he was wearing a different and fresh cloak. His hair looked damp and he smelled of the sandalwood and almond body wash he used. My eyes looked at the books and pages he had placed on the table. Ah work. We were here to work. Not to stare at him, Leah. I reminded myself. "Do you remember what we learnt yesterday? Or do you want to go through them again before resuming forward?" He asked me, turned around and I cleared my throat, nodding my head. "I remember. We can just continue from where we left," I said, and his eyes looked at me for a minute. Racking through my mind, trying to look for any lies. And when he found none, he nodded his head, pointing towards the empty space on the floor. He followed me there, bringing the papers with him before spreading them down, handing me out what looked like a worksheet. "It's just what we have learnt so far. Can you fill these? I'll break down these translations for you until then." He said, and I nodded my head, taking the worksheet in my hand. My eyes scanned the papers. He had literally included everything we had learnt. Every little thing we discussed over time. And the worksheet was too long for my lazy self to complete. With a sigh, I grabbed the inked pen and started to fill the worksheet, with every answer I knew, or I thought I knew. I left the questions I had no idea about. It took me a few minutes to complete the worksheet. And by the time I was done, Satan was reading one of the magazines. And my curiosity got the best out of me as I placed my worksheet down and turned to look at him. He was still busy reading it. But he was also very busy with ignoring my whole existence, especially when he already knew what I was going to ask him. That was one thing that irked me a lot. He always knows when and what I'm going to ask him. He can read my thoughts faster than I can understand them. "What are you reading?" I asked him, and his eyes stopped moving on the pages. Slowly, he looked up. His eyes met mine as he closed the magazine shut and pushed it closer to me. And my eyebrows furrowed at his actions. "Read it. And tell me if you can translate it into your language," he said. I narrowed my eyes as I grabbed the magazine and tried to read the name of the magazine. "The guide to understanding human behavior." I read and my eyes widened as I looked at the man in front of me. He was reading a book to understand my behaviour.
