Hey there Delila

2537 Words
Hannah and Sarah just called me Delila or Lila for short because I couldn't remember my name. What's my name? The question always left my mind in turmoil, how could I possibly not remember my name. "Lila," I blankly said, my tone cold and hard. The soldiers took that as a good note to not speak to me anymore. The ride to wherever we were going was pretty far and the sun just seemed to be rising higher until noon when we stopped at some restaurant s***h bar. "Care to join us? We might be a while?" The older soldier asked me politely with a gentle crooked smile. I blankly met his calculating black eyes that bore into mine. "It might help ease your worries and we'll answer any questions you have," the younger soldier said kindly. With an annoyed sigh, I followed them towards the restaurant and stayed behind them. I appeared to attract a lot of attention with my shoeless feet as well as my aura of authority. The men walked towards the bar section and ordered themselves something called a shot. Not quite sure why they wanted a shot but it seemed to please the men when it arrived. I was handed one out of courtesy which I took gratefully. I could smell alcohol in the drink and remembered how hard it was for me to get drunk but it often left a soothing feeling in my body. I gulped down the little glass of liquid and slid it forward to the waiter asking for another. "Wow you sure love your liquor," the older soldier had said after his third shot, he seemed to be swaying a bit. "Pathetic," I spat at him as I threw another glass down my throat. Seven "Watch your mouth kid, you're talking to a very powerful man." The older soldier warned with sharp eyes but he was failing at keeping a straight face. I glanced at the younger soldier who only had one shot since he was driving apparently. He seemed caught up in his world as he watched the tv screen above us. The moment I looked up I regretted it immediately. Something stirred in my body as it heated up instantly, a loud ringing resonated through my head. Before me on the tv was a house burning uncontrollably, a house so familiar it was hard not to forget it. The red little two-bedroom house was burning down to ashes and not even the firemen's attempt to slow the fire helped. "Turn it up," I instructed instantly as I desired to hear what the news lady was saying about the house. "I SAID TURN IT UP!" I growled loudly, making everyone near me jump in shock and fear. The glass in my hand shattered as I squeezed it too hard. The waiter quickly turned the volume up. 'It appears this fire was not started by any gas leakage or matches. The cause of the fire is still being investigated but on the latest news, two body remains were discovered in the house last night. The identity of these two bodies is still to be investigated but the townsfolk believe it belongs to the owners of the house Sarah Kensington and her daughter Hannah Kensington. The flames have been distinguished and investigators are on site trying to discover what went down in this unforeseen disaster. Our condolences to the Kensington family and all those affected during this hard time. Next up on Reality News is the birth of a very special animal.' I couldn't take my eyes off the tv as memories of Hannah's radiating smile replayed in my head. When I found out who did this they were going to pay dearly, with their lives. "Do you know them?" Sam, the younger soldier, asked me. I didn't reply as I continued watching the tv hoping the news would rewind. Sam got the hint and sighed heavily before ordering himself a bear as if he had had a long day. An hour later and the two soldiers were staggering out of the bar and tripping over their own feet and howling in laughter. I was sober as a kite as I ended up keeping the two idiots standing and dragged them to the car by their arms. They complained about God knows what but managed to get into the car nonetheless. "Where to?" I asked blankly as I examined the car and brought everything I knew about cars to mind. "To infinity and beyond," chuckled Billy, the old soldier had a screw loose that was for sure. "Sasix military road, two hours from here. Put the GPS on." Sam said with a hiccup. At least he made sense even when he was drunk as a bat. I began the car and headed onto the main road before driving straight for as long as the GPS said. It was a long annoying ride full of useless chatter and laughter that made me want to pluck my ears out or throw the two soldiers out of the moving cars. What are you doing? That was a good question demon, I was just going with the flow because I was bored and had nothing better to do. The demon was a darker crazier side of me that I kept locked up at the back of my mind. If it ever got out, all hell would break loose, I guess you could say it's because of this demon these voices in my head never leave me. Even without my memory, I could tell this demon dwelling in the back of my mind was to never be let out no matter what. It dwelled deep in my consciousness in a dark cage with bars lined with some glowing green aura that burned the demon if it touched it. What made the case even crazier was the fact that the demon looked exactly like me from head to two except her eyes were pitch black from the sclera covering her entire eyes as if she had no soul. To be quite honest sometimes she kept me company with some small chitchats. Of course, she always asked to be let out somewhere between that as if I would cave in but I never did. By the late afternoon, we arrived at our destination which happened to be a military base. Something I've only seen on tv movies or series. Nothing out of the ordinary except it was a sad-looking place. I slowed down the car as the road turned to a rocky gravel section that shook the car. It sure woke the sleeping drunks in the back. "I'm up, what's up?" Billy asked suddenly as he looked around quickly. Sam grunted as he sat up with a groan as if someone had just punched him. I stopped the car where the other cars were parked and got out with an annoyed glare on my face. I was no babysitter and if I had to spend another second with those two idiots I would lose my cool. "Thank y-" Sam began but I shut him down immediately "Shut up," I said bluntly, his voice sounded like nails scratching a charcoal board. I began walking with Billy ignoring Sam's annoyed face. To my surprise the two acted as if they were sober as the sky, walking straight and having that stance as if they were well-respected soldiers. They just lost any respect they had from me. I was guided towards the entrance of one side of the building. The entire structure was like a campsite with one long stretched building for the bunk beds, toilets and showers with the main office and on the opposite side another outstretched building for the cafeteria and study area. It was well built in my eyes but could've been better. The office was nothing out of the ordinary and didn't quite attract my attention in the slightest. I blankly scanned my surroundings and let the commanders converse and whatnot before I began walking around the office feeling something stir inside me. It brought an unknown warmth to my chest but just as it came it disappeared instantly, leaving me cold and annoyed. "Excuse me," the commander sitting on the desk said with irritation as he saw me touch a medal on the wall. "Bathrooms on the other side to your left," I said blankly before I turned around and walked towards him with a menacing look in my eyes. Sam and Billy watched my every move with curiosity. I sat on the man's desk and watched his nostrils flare. "Now listen up, I've been quite nice about you dragging me here for God knows what but I make the terms here. I'm only here because I have nothing better to do, so annoy me and you'll live to regret this day, do I make myself clear?" I said through gritted teeth as I bore into his eyes with a fire in my eyes that showed I meant business. The commander shook in his seat and nodded repeatedly, his pants becoming damn suddenly which made me satisfied before I got off the desk and began leaving the room. "Where to boys?" I asked Billy and Sam. This was the most I've spoken in a long time and it left a weird taste in my mouth. Sam was the first to move as he led me to the bunkers and showed me which one belonged to me. There was a change of military uniform on the bed that was a woman's size but would most definitely be too big for my tiny body. "Get out," I told Sam who seemed to be used to my bossy self and raised his hands in surrender. "Yes ma'am," he said before turning around and leaving. The room was filled with bunkers on both sides of the walls and fortunately, since the soldiers were out training I had the entire place to myself. I stripped at an agonising pace as my mind felt slow for some odd reason no thanks to the demon trying to annoy me. "Cut it out!" I growled in irritation as my body moved sluggishly. If I had my powers this wouldn't be possible but considering how weak I was without them, the demon could easily manipulate my body or mind if she desired to. 'Make me' she chuckled in a sinister tone, her voice so high-pitched it gave me a headache. I sighed in annoyance as I tried to move my body faster to no avail. I finally had everything on before anyone could enter, no surprise the arms of the jacket went way past my fingers and the length of the pants dragged on the floor and don't even get me started on my waist. An annoyed grunt left my parted lips as I clenched my fists. Before I could remove the clothes the door opened to show Sam who carried a bag in his hand. He stopped amid walking and looked at me with his mouth parted. His cheeks reddened slightly as he quickly cleared his throat before walking toward me. "This is for you," he said, avoiding my eyes at all cost. I could hear his heart beating out of control as if he had just run a race yet his face was stoic and showed no emotions. I grabbed the bag and placed it on the bed. "I don't suppose you have anything my size do you?" I asked with irritation as I showed him my arms that were swallowed by the jacket. He held back his laughter before he finally met my eyes. "Unfortunately not. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" He asked me curiously. I raised my eyebrow wondering what that had to do with anything but he seemed genuinely curious. I suppose since I looked so young he assumed I was a child who probably needed their parents to sign off whatever deal they wanted with me. For one I knew I was a couple of a thousand years old but I just couldn't remember the exact amount. Damn memory loss. 'I know' demon Lila sang in her cage as if that would get my attention. "I suppose a few millennia," I said with squinted eyes hoping I got that right. Sam's eyes bulged out of their sockets as he took a step back in shock. He didn't know what to say as he wondered whether I was serious or playing with him. "Wha-" he was too stunned to finish the word as he looked at me with something else in his eyes. Something shiny and alluring. "Well if you don't have anything smaller than this, I would rather wear my clothes,'' I said blankly as I began unbuttoning the jacket. "Wait, let me leave the room first," Sam quickly said with flustered cheeks and a racing heartbeat. "Pathetic," I whispered under my breath as I continued unbuttoning the jacket without a care in the world. Sam quickly turned around to give me my privacy as if I needed it. I would've just poked out his eyes if I needed privacy. Before I could even take the jacket off I felt that familiar warmth flood through my body once more. It started as a small disruption in my stomach before it began to grow into a large ball of heat travelling to my chest. The clothes began shrinking until they fit me perfectly. I felt a sense of pride come over me as I could feel my powers coming back slowly but surely. "Snug as a bug in a rug," I recited what Hannah once told me. Sam turned around to see what I was talking about and nearly fell over at what he saw. "Wh-" the man was too stunned to speak. "Don't overthink it, just let it be," I told him and walked out of the room as if I owned it. I still wore no shoes as it was easier to connect to the earth without them. Under my feet, I could feel the vibration of Sam's feet start moving and head towards me. He couldn't keep his eyes off me and I understood why but it began to make my skin crawl uncomfortably. "Cut it out before I rip your eyes out," I growled, making sure he knew I wasn't joking. He quickly looked away but his mind was filled with so many questions. One ridiculous question I heard was if a small tiny creature was inhabiting my brain and controlling my body as if I was a robot. It nearly made me grunt in amusement. We walked together to the field where the other soldiers were training, playing games or just hanging out. There was quite a big field between the two buildings where the soldiers hung out. Gymming equipment such as monkey bars, dumbbells, lift weighting equipment and so forth could be seen in the middle of the field. Benches were near the buildings where the loners sat and read or examined everyone else. It looked like a summer school for boys, a camp that ended in your death or the worst summer camp ever.
