Chapter 6: Don’t hesitate

1122 Words
“Dad,” Ximena called her dad when she reached their hideout. She spoke with her father, Xylon, over her earpiece. She is still anxious about her mother, who abruptly told her what she needed to know. Xylon’s forehead crumpled when he heard Ximena. “Yes?” “Can you contact mom? Her signal got interrupted when I was driving,” she muttered. “She link her signal at my earpiece but all of the sudden— f**k!” She could speak to Lynden about it, but she couldn't get over how Lynden behaved when they aimed their guns at her a while ago. It's bizarre, but she hates the way she feels right now. She doesn't want to conclude, but she can't help herself, especially because her parents are so precious to her. “Wait,” Xylon whispered before turning off his signal. Ximena attempted to compose herself, but it still discomforted her so badly that she couldn't sense Lyric and Eve's existence, who were enjoying themselves in the chase lounge and peering at her. “What happened?” Eve asked just to get Ximena’s attention. Ximena's forehead puckered when she heard Eve's remark. She looked to see Lyric cleaning their rifles alongside her. When they are in their hideout, they usually wear a sports bra and jagger trousers. “My mom’s signal got interrupted a while ago,” Ximena said. “That’s weird. Our signal wouldn’t be interrupted,” Lyric replied and glanced at Lynden, who was next to Ximena. “Can you double-check the security, Lynden?” Ximena continued to walk as if she didn’t hear anything. She went straight to her workplace to finish her paperwork. Lynden stared at Ximena’s back, and the moment she entered her workplace, he let out a deep sigh. “You better stop that,” Eve warned him. “I can’t,” Lynden shook his head. “Where’s my laptop?” Lyric rolled her eyes but didn’t talk. She’s thinking of some possible scenarios now, but she doesn’t know where to start. “Go to your room,” Eve replied. “You better need to hurry since the Mafia Boss’ mistress might be in danger.” “Ximena,” Xylon called his daughter. “Dad?” she whispered and stopped reading her documents. Ximena can't grasp what's indicated in the document since she's still anxious about her mother. If something immoral happens to her, she is going to willingly murder anybody who comes in her way of finding those at fault. She let go of the document and focused on her father's words to ensure that there were no distractions. “Did you finally contact her?” Ximena inquired, hoping that her mom was okay. She tried contacting her mom many times when she was driving, but someone blocked her signal. It frustrates her that she can’t even concentrate on her work. She wanted to look for her mom, but she didn’t want to talk with Lynden to know her mom’s whereabouts. She hates men, especially when she feels something strange. Although she had no strong proof of that, she could feel it. Something is weird about Lynden’s gestures. “Dad,” Ximena uttered. “Can you just tell me what was happening?” “She’s okay,” Xylon answered her question. “She’s with me.” “Why can’t I connect my signal to her? It frustrates me!” she exclaimed. Ximena can't help but be upset over what her mother has done. She's solely worried that their lives are in trouble. Her loved ones might be killed at any time, which she's concerned about. She may be harsh and frequently displays her notorious poker face, but she still cares for her mother and father. Ximena still loves her parents. “Can you talk to our daughter, hon?” Xylon glanced at his wife. “She’s shouting. Our daughter forgot that our earpiece is sensitive.” Ximena gritted her teeth when she heard her father being calm as always, but she tried to control her voice because their earpiece was really sensitive. It’s like a speaker. If you shout, it will be three times louder than the speaker of a cell phone. So Xylon can’t help but crumple his face and tilt his head as his daughter shouts at him. “Ximena, darling, I’m here. You don’t have to worry,” Xanthe, her mother, chuckled softly. “I just had some errands to do a while ago so I had to cut the signal.” Ximena rolled her eyes and tried to connect her signal again to her mom. She also cut her signal to his father’s earpiece by tapping the earpiece two times. “Mom,” Ximena uttered. “You made me nervous.” Xanthe laughed heartily and couldn’t help but shake her head as she looked at her husband with loving eyes. “I apologize for that, darling.” After a few minutes of talking to Xanthe, Ximena finally continued her paperwork on her desk, but for some reason, Lynden entered her workplace without knocking on the door. Ximena felt his presence as she looked at the man who just entered. “About the Mafia Boss’ Mistress—” “It’s okay now,” Ximena didn’t let him finish what he was going to say. “Dad informed me about that.” Lynden shut his mouth by licking his lower lip while looking at Ximena. He didn’t say anything, but he couldn’t help but nod his head a little. “Next time, please knock before entering. Can’t you all see that I’m busy?” she raised a question, but her voice remained cold. “Not because I’m not your boss, you all had the right to do everything you want. I’m Xanthe and Xylon’s daughter. If you all respect my parents, please do respect their daughter too.” Lynden swallowed hard when he heard Ximena suddenly burst. He knew that he was wrong, so he didn’t defend himself from that. Ximena was telling the truth, but they went overboard, which was not good. “I apologize for that,” Lynden murmured, and Ximena heard it, but she just looked at the document she was holding to continue what she was reading a while ago. Lynden bowed his head and bit his lower lip. He didn’t move, not even an inch, so Ximena closed her eyes tight when she still could feel his presence. Ximena whispered, “Why are you still here if you have nothing to say?” Because of what Ximena said, Lynden stood straight and glanced at Ximena’s direction. “I’ll excuse myself now. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to connect your signal to my earpiece.”
