CHAPTER ONE;GIVING IN
CHAPTER ONE I've always been the type of girl who feels the world hasn't been fair to me. I have always been bullied from a young age due to my body type, but I had to have thick skin because of what people have had to say about me, and honestly, I don't care. Losing you, Dad, made everything hard for me, but it will never change the fact that you are an amazing father, she said to herself as she dusted off the dirt on her father's headstone at the cemetery. She smiled as she remembered when she and her dad would always wake up at midnight to have ice cream, all because her mother wouldn't let her. They did the silliest things together and went on the silliest adventures together. Now, there is nobody to do these things with anymore, and she misses him dearly. Daddy, why did you not tell me your business was falling apart? You barely kept stuff away from me, so why hide the company issues from me? She asked just as she started crying and couldn't control or hold back her tears. Now they are my problem, and I don't know what to do anymore. The only solution I have is to marry into the Colton family. Mom planned that behind my back and the more Sarah cried because she knew this was not how she wanted things to go or how she wanted to take care of business. If only you were here, Daddy, you wouldn't have accepted this because my happiness matters to you, Dad; now I have a compulsory dinner with the Colton family tomorrow to officially meet their son Bryan, Sarah said out loud. The Colton family agreed to invest in us and bring more investors to help with the capital, but Mr. Colton's condition is that I would have to marry his first son, Bryan. I will do anything to uphold your legacy, Dad. It's just that I still can't believe your old-time friend, Mr. Colton, would lay such conditions down to help boost your company. Mom won't even give me any other option and won't let me try other ideas as well. I wish I had not been this confused. How will I marry someone I don't know nor love, Daddy? How? She said as she cried more, the more she cried, the more her eyes got blurred from all the tears. I had to dig into their son's life, and what I found out is not something to overlook. They say he's arrogant, nonchalant, and has anger issues, and that he's ill-mannered. No wonder nobody wants to marry him. I have to do this, and I promise, Dad, I will make sure nobody spoils what took you years to build. I know it's been a year since you left us, Dad; keep resting well, my hero. Sarah said as she cleaned her eyes properly and stopped crying so she could see where to place the flowers she bought for her father on his headstone and walked towards where her car was parked. Sarah knew it would be hard to let go of her father's memories, and why would she let go? A loving father who would do anything just to make his daughter happy, and not just his daughter, but also his family. I know I will continue missing you every day, but I know your memories will always be part of me, and that alone has been keeping me together. "Larry, let's go," Sarah said to her driver as she got to where her car was parked. 'yes, ma'am,' Larry replied as he opened the car door for her. …....……………............................................ I said," I don't want such in my home; Shelly, are you deaf? Bryan asked his assistant Shelly. 'No sir,' Shelly answered. 'Then why have you refused to throw away this diffuser, Shelly? You keep annoying me, and that alone makes me feel like you're a daft and stupid girl; why don't you listen and follow simple instructions, Shelly?' Bryan asked further as he put on his suit jacket to head out to work. I'm so sorry about that, sir; it's your mother who told me to give it to you as it's a gift from her to you as you refused to pick up her calls, sir. I am so sorry about it. I will take it out now, answered Shelly. Did I tell you guys I don't like how my room scent is? By the way, was it my mother who employed you, or was it me? Asked Bryan. It's you sir and I promise that this will not happen again sir. Just that your mom threatened me, sir, Shelly replied while sounding scared, but who wouldn't be scared of almighty Bryan, the arrogant first son of the Colton family, he barely smiles, but his charm is his eyes and the fact that he looks very hot and handsome. I don't want this repeating itself. Am I clear, Shelly? Bryan asked Shelly again. Yes sir you are, Shelly answered. Then we are done here; please get out of my house now and also make sure you get to work before I do, Bryan said. Yes, Sir, replied Shelly just as she ran out of the house to hurriedly get a cab before her boss, even though Bryan would have easily taken her along to work as they were going to the same place, she knew it was her punishment from her boss, and now she had to take a cab and pray she reaches there before him as anything is possible when it comes to her boss. This woman keeps getting on my nerves, Bryan said to himself as he removed his phone from his pocket and called his mother. Just as she picks up Hello mum, the other day was my chef, and now it's a humidifier? Oh please we all know your chef was no good. He cooks rubbish food for you and I wanted you to eat healthier now, so I changed him to someone better stop complaining, and I also sent you that humidifier because I didn't like the scent in your house, it smelled like an old man's place when I came over to your place yesterday, so I knew... You came to my place when you knew I was at work; what's your plan here? Bryan said as he interrupted his mum, why talking... Hey young man, you shouldn't interrupt me when talking; I raised you better than that; now show some respect," said angrily Mrs Colton. I'm sorry, Mum, but I am not happy that you guys won't stop interfering in my life, and I don't like it. I'm in my early 30s, but you guys treat me as if I am a teen; you know you guys can do better, Mum. Oh please spare me that, when you do the right things we won't bother you or interfere with your life like you said. Now, don't forget we have a dinner with the backwood family at our first restaurant and don't be late. It's at 7 pm and also, son, leave your sad and grumpy face at home tomorrow when coming okay, bye son. Mrs Colton said. Just as Bryan was going to disagree with his mum, she ended the call on him, and in his rage, he smashed his phone. I'm so tired of this folks, they won't give me peace over not being married. It's not bad if I never want to get married. After all, I'm not their only child or son, but since I have a name to uphold everything, because I came out first, and I hate that," Bryan said to himself. He walked towards the table beside his bed and decided to use his home phone to call Shelly. The phone rang twice: Why did you not pick up immediately, Shelly, or are your ears not working now? Bryan said as Shelly picked up her call. No sir, I'm sorry sir, Shelly replied. Well, Shelly, I need a new phone, and I want it ready before I get to work, said Bryan as he ended the call. Just as Shelly was going to explain she had just got to work, the call ended on her. Well, there's no arguing that this has to be the worst job ever. I never knew being an assistant was this bad, said Shelly as she picked up her purse to go get her boss the new phone and hurriedly left because she knew he mustn't get to work before her.
