Kane’s POV
I was sitting in Axel’s office trying to go through any lead I could find, while my parents were gone looking into Clarissa. The leads I had were really none and just me trying to find anything. Zane has been by my side the whole time looking into things, and he is having just as much luck as I am. None.
“Zane, we have to find him.” I said as I hung my head. I felt like we were failing him.
“We will. We will get something. A message or a note. Somebody took them and they are going to want something at some point and when they do, we will get him.”
The office door was thrown open and in walked my parents, along with Alpha Nathan. He had gone with them while my mate and his went back to our pack. I didn’t want my mate to leave, but since they were taken from here, we felt they were safer there than here.
“What did you find?” I asked as soon as I saw them.
“Nothing. We did, however, place a tracker on her phone and a bug in her house.” Xander said.
“How did you place a tracker on her phone?”
“That was easy. All I had to do was say I wanted to talk to her alone, and she dropped everything and came outside with me while Kane found her phone. She is stupid. I am sure she is behind this and we will find them.” Xander said.
“I tried to be the bigger person when everything happened and gave her a second chance and she takes my kid and his mate.” My mom said and started crying. Both my mates had her in their arms and were trying to console her. I could see her eyes starting to glow and I knew her wolf was pushing forward, and that was never a good thing. There were a few times that Alex and I had made her mad enough that Stella pushed forward and she whooped our ass, but we did deserve it. I smiled to myself, thinking about the memories.
“Mom, we will find him. Is the tracker the one we usually use?” I asked them.
“Yes.” One of my dads replied.
I walked over to Alex’s laptop and opened it up and opened up the tracking app we had, and her phone popped up. I could see she was still at her house right now. I just sat there watching her tracker, while everyone else just stood around the office. Alpha Nathan’s cell phone rang, and he stepped out of the office to answer it.
“Zane, get someone to watch this thing. I don’t want eyes off her tracker and if she as so much as goes out of her house, I want to know about.” I told him, standing up.
I walked out of the office and down the hallway. I was going to walk past Alpha Nathan, but he stopped me when I got to him. I could tell he was talking to his mate. He was trying to reassure her that they would find their daughter. I stepped back against the wall and waited for him to be done.
“Kane, we need to talk in private.” He told me. I just nodded and lead him to an empty office. It was supposed to be the beta’s, but they always worked in the Alpha’s office, so it sits empty.
“What?” I asked him.
“I need to go home. I need to be there to protect my mate and yours. I fully believe that this Clarissa’s doing and there is no saying that she won’t go after my mate next because we raised her daughter. Just bring my daughter home, please.”
“Of course, sir.”
He nodded at me and walked out of the room. I left as well and headed outside. I made it to the treeline and shifted and let Magnus, my wolf, take over. He knew these woods like the back of our hand. We grew up here. This was our second home. He ran and ran, getting out all of our emotions. He was a quiet wolf, unlike me. I guess we are like our father. He is that way as well. Magnus ran until we came to a little lake or large pond, whatever you wanted to call it. He got a drink and then went and laid down.
I know why he came here. This is where Alex and I used to come when we needed time away from things. It was so far back that it wasn’t known by many. We just laid down and looked out over the water.
“Remember that time we snuck out of the house toilet papered Mr. Jenkins house?” Mangus asked me.
“Remember it. I still laugh about it. He was so mad, and he never knew who it was. He shouldn’t have tried to give us summer homework.”
“There was so much toilet paper that it took him three days to clean all of it up.”
“We have to find him, Magnus. He has to be ok.”
“We will.”
“We need to go back and see if there is any movement on the tracker.” I told Magnus. He must have agreed, because he stood up and headed back to the pack house. He went at a slow trot, so it took us a little time to get there. We finally made it back to our clothes, and I shifted back and put my clothes on. I pulled my phone out and found a text from my mate, telling me she loves me. I smiled to myself and texted her back and then pocketed my phone.
I headed inside and went straight to the office, where I found Zane watching the tracker on the computer.
“Anything?”
“No, she moved outside for a bit, but then went back inside. We have to remember that she can leave and leave her phone at home and we would never know.”
“s**t. I didn’t think of that. I have to go talk to my parents.” I grumbled and stormed out of the office and headed straight to their house. I flung the front door open and found all three sitting on the couch. My mom was still crying, and they were still trying to console her.
“We overlooked something,” I told them as I went into the room.
“What?” my dad asked.
“That she can leave and leave her phone at home and we would never know if she left.”
“We have that covered. We have someone tailing her as well. We will know if she leaves for anything.”
“You could have told me that. Who is it?”
“You got wrapped up with the tracker and then left. As for who is watching her is someone from their pack that the Alpha trust.”
I sat back against the chair and let out a sigh while we all just stared at each other. After I don’t know how long, I finally got up and headed to my old room for some sleep. I took a quick shower and laid down in bed and grabbed my phone and called my mate.
“Hey love,” she said, answering the phone.
“Hey sugar. How are you?”
“Have you found anything?”
“Nothing new. I miss you.”
“I miss you too, but you are where you need to be right now.”
“I know and hopefully soon this will be behind us.”
“It will. You are doing everything you can.”
“If there is nothing new in a few days, I am going to come home for a few days. I need you in my arms. I need to smell your scent. I just need you.”
“Me to love.”
“I love you. Have a good night.”
“I love you too.”
I hung up my phone and plugged it in to its charger and waited for sleep to take me.
“Kane, get up now.” My dad said, throwing my door open and then immediately leaving.
I jumped out of bed and threw on some clothes, and ran down the stairs. All three of my parents were sitting at the kitchen table. My mom was once again crying and Xander was looking at her phone while Kane stood there looking like he was ready to rip someone’s head off.
“What is it?” I asked, and he handed me her phone.
My heart stopped when I looked at the picture on the phone. They had Alex’s hands strung up over his head, he a swollen black and blue face, his chest was dripping blood. It looked like they had carved something into but you couldn’t make it out. He looked skinny and broken. So broken.
“Who sent this?” I growled out.
“We don’t know, but they want to meet just your mother tomorrow at midnight.”
“Not happening.”
“No, it’s not, but we need to see if we can get a ping on the phone. Get a location.”
“I’m on it.” I told them and took her phone and headed to the office.
I threw the office door open and someone sat there staring at the computer, watching the tracker.
“Anything?” I asked.
“No, hasn’t moved all night.”
“Can you get a ping on this phone?” I asked him and handed it to him. He took it and went to work on the computer. I started pacing, waiting for him to get the location.
“Anything?” I finally asked him. It felt like forever, but it had probably only been five minutes.
“I’m working on it,” he said as his fingers flew over the keyboard. I kept pacing as he kept working.
“Got it,” he finally yelled out and starting writing something on a piece of paper and then handed it to me.
“Keep watching the phone tracker and if anything changes with it, call us.” I told him and then ran out of the room and straight to my parents’ place.
I threw the door open, and they were still in the living room. “I got it,” I yelled out as soon as I was in the room.
“Good, we’re getting people together. We leave in an hour. Where is it?” Xander asked.
I handed him the piece of paper while he took a look at it. You could see the moment he realized where the place was. I had no clue, but he did. He didn’t say anything but handed the piece of paper to Kane, who got the same look on his face as soon as he realized where it was.
“What is going on? Do you guys know where this is?” I asked them.
“Ya, and how she got access to this place is concerning as well.” Kane said.
“OK, well, how far away is it?”
“Two hours, so go get ready and we will leave.”
“OK, I am going to call Nathan so he can be headed this way.”
“No, not until we know if his daughter is involved or not.” Xander said.
“I can’t do that. He is my father-in-law, and that is his daughter, too.”
“Son, please trust us with this. If she was involved in any of this, then she could die and having her parents there would complicate things.”
I didn’t say anything to them and turned and went upstairs to my room. I quickly got ready to go and headed back downstairs. I had my phone in my hand and Hailee had sent me several text messages, but for now, I had to ignore them.
“Alright let’s go boys,” my mom said, looking ready for battle as well.
We went out front and my dads had gathered fifty warriors and we were all getting loaded in to SUVs. I got into the back seat of my parents, along with Zane and Kooper. Kooper was my uncle and Zane’s dad.
“Don’t worry baby girl, we will get him back and he will be ok,” I heard my dad tell my mom, and I had to believe those words were true.
