Introducing, Luna Everlee Green
Lennox
I wake up alone. Everlee must have slipped out early to prepare for the Luna ceremony. It doesn’t begin until five, so I have plenty of time to convince Zeke to let Ajax out for a run. Being cooped up for a week has Drake anxious and I need him calm tonight. I’m anxious enough for the both of us.
Lennox
“Zeke, got time for a run?”
Zeke
“Be right down. Ajax definitely needs a run.”
We meet on the back patio and make our way to the woods. The patio is decorated brilliantly for tonight. I have waited my entire life for this. Introducing my Luna to my pack, fully becoming one with my fated mate. You can’t wipe the smile off my face if you try.
“Someone’s in a good mood.”
I roll my eyes at Zeke’s smirk and shift.
We run for over an hour before our wolves slow. We come up to the same small pond we always stop at for a drink. Ajax surprises us all by jumping in the water and splashing around. It’s quite funny to see this massive wolf play in the water like a puppy. Drake shakes his snout disapprovingly, ever the Alpha, but I can tell he finds his Beta’s antics amusing.
Zeke
“Are you ready for tonight, Alpha?”
Lennox
“More than ready. After tonight our pack will be better in every way. I will be the best leader possible. I just hope she is able to link to the pack. I’m not sure how we will explain it if she can’t.”
Zeke
“I’m sure it will all work out either way. All of Black River is going to love Luna Everlee, even when they find out she is Fae.”
With that we get up and run back toward the pack house. We shift just inside the tree line where we left our clothes and walk back up to the house.
“Tomorrow, we have a lot of planning to do for the future, but tonight, we celebrate!” I put an arm around Zeke shoulder and squeeze him.
“I want to thank you. I don’t know what I would have done without you these last few years. You’ve been the best Beta, and the best friend, I ever could have asked for.”
Zeke elbows my ribs, and pushes me off him.
“All right! All right! Enough of that Alpha! Don’t go getting all mushy on me now that you’re mated. What’s next? You gonna kiss me good night?”
I laugh harder than I have in a long time. Zeke knows exactly how to calm my nerves. Just like Ajax had with Drake. I smile at the comparison. They really are the best Betas.
I check my phone. 11 AM.
“Let’s go see what Miss Donna has for brunch.”
“I don’t know, you gonna make another pass at me? Is this a date?”
We laugh and trade punches on our way to the kitchen.
“There’s my boys! I knew you’d be hungry when I didn’t see you at breakfast so I made waffles, omelets and bacon.”
Donna makes us plates and serves us at the giant island.
“You’re the best Miss Donna. It smells delicious.”
I plant a kiss on the top of her head.
Donna means as much to me as my own mother. I can’t count the number of nights she soothed my mind, heart and my stomach, right here in this kitchen.
“Flattery will get you everywhere, dearie. Haha, sit! Sit! Eat up! You’ve got an important day ahead of you. I can’t have you walking around with an empty stomach.”
I sit down next to Zeke and we eat every bite, then wash and put away our dishes. Some would scoff at an Alpha and Beta doing chores, but respect goes a long way with us, and we have the utmost respect for Donna. Her omega title means little to us.
By the time I get back up to my room it’s 12:30. I change into workout gear and head down to the gym. I need to keep my mind busy, and work off that brunch.
Everlee
Spending the day getting all dolled up had sounded fun, but after spending the whole day away from Lennox yesterday, I miss him.
“You’ll see him soon, sweetie. And when he sees you, in this dress, he won’t leave your side for days. Haha.”
“Thanks, Sophia. I hope you’re right. Because I don’t know if I’m going to be able to peel myself away from him either.”
“You look beautiful honey. How lucky is my son? To have been blessed with such a gorgeous she-wolf.” She kisses my cheek and hugs me.
My heart sinks. I’m really beginning to love my mother-in-law. She is sweet, and genuine, and so helpful. Everything I hope to be in a Luna. I want to tell her the truth. The sooner the better.
“Sophia, about that…”
Here goes nothing. She will either accept me or she will hate me for putting everything she loves in danger. And I won’t blame her.
“What’s wrong Everlee? You can talk to me.”
She places her hands in mine and looks me directly in the eyes.
I can’t make myself say it. So I stand up and close my eyes, I slowly removed the veil that hides my wings. Praying that the goddess would allow me to show her my true form. I hang my head, unable to look up at her. Too afraid to see the look of disgust, I’m sure I will find.
“Oh, my stars! You’re… a fairy!”
She places her hands on my shoulders and squeezes.
I look up with tears in my eyes.
“Everlee, what is wrong? This is amazing! Why are you crying?”
“You, aren’t upset that I’m not a wolf?”
“Heavens no! The Moon Goddess knows what she is doing! I told you, I trust her! What a blessing to have a living fairy as our Luna! I always believed the tales of a fairy safe haven! I knew they couldn’t all be gone.”
I let out the breath I had been holding in.
“But I don’t know what I’m doing. What if I can’t link with the pack? And how should I expect them to trust me or accept me, when I have to lie to them to stay safe? How selfish is that? I’m already in over my head with becoming a Luna and I have to start off by lying to them?”
It feels good to unleash all of my pent up anxiety. I’m so thankful I had Sophia’s support.
“Honey, calm down. You don’t have to lie, but if Lennox feels it’s for the best, give him time, I’m sure he has a plan. Besides, you were able to mark him, and your mind link works with him, I see no reason it shouldn’t work fine with the pack. And unless your wings are out, you just smell like a mated wolf. With them out you kind of smell like cotton candy. I’m guessing, our Goddesses had something to do with all this. Black River Pack is going to love and accept whatever form of Everlee you choose to show them. They will understand you hiding that you’re a fairy, and it isn’t selfish. You’re being Fae puts the whole pack in danger. You’re protecting them too. And that is exactly what a good Luna would do.”
She hugs me tight and wipes my tears away with a tissue.
“I guess you’re right. I hadn’t thought of it that way. Thanks.”
“Now, let’s fix this makeup! You have an Alpha anxiously awaiting for your arrival in an hour!”
Sophia and I walk to the back door arm in arm. I’m so nervous, my heart feels like it will jump out of my chest.
“Deep breath dear, just focus on Lennox.”
Sophia walks out the door and is escorted into the party by Clinton.
As the door opens for me to walk through, I take a deep breath and step out onto the patio. I smile nervously as I search for Lennox’s face. I find him to my right, eyes fixed, mouth agape, frozen. I blush. I have chosen an emerald green mermaid style, satin gown, it hugs me in all the right places and has a slit up the right leg to my knee. My hair is hanging in loose curls around the sweetheart neckline and Sophia has done my makeup full glam, with a smoky eye and a red lip. He obviously approved.
Everlee
“Lennox?”
Lennox
“You look amazing.”
Everlee
“Thank you, but can you come introduce me? Everyone is staring.”
He finally steps forward and grabs my hand. He places a delicate kiss on the back of my hand and leads me to the top of the steps.
“Ladies, and gentlemen of Black River, I have the immense pleasure of presenting to you tonight, Ms. Everlee Green, my mate, and your Luna. Tonight’s New Years festivities have been slightly altered to accommodate her Luna ceremony. Won’t you please join me in welcoming her to our pack?”
The crowd of wolves roars and claps with such vigor it almost doesn’t feel real. Once they calm down, Sophia and Clinton join us in front of the pack with a glass and a silk rope. I realize, I have no idea what a Luna ceremony entails.
Everlee
“What do I do Lennox?”
Lennox
“It’s ok. Just hold my hand.”
Sophia takes out a small knife and cuts her hand, bleeding into the cup. Clinton follows. The silk rope is tied around mine and Lennox’s joined hands and the cup of blood is poured over the rope. As soon as the first drop hits the rope I feel a massive surge of energy rip through my body. It’s amazing. I open my eyes and look out into the crowd. Suddenly, I feel a deep connection to each and every one of the wolves standing before me. They are my family now, and I am responsible for them. Lennox has the biggest smile on his face. It worked! I’m linked to the pack. My pack. Our pack. Now, I just have to navigate this whole, Luna thing.
