Thea
I had arranged Claire to visit me. She was going to chum me to visit some alphas, it was on the pretence that I was considering their proposals but actually I was just looking for my mate.
I thought a break from Blue Moon would be great, she had been looking after the girls Iris rescued from Paradise and they had been through so much trauma. She needed to meet her mate too, so maybe we could kill two birds with one stone.
I knew it had taken her a while to get over Oliver. She said she knew before Iris was his mate that he was in love with her. He never looked at her they way he did Iris, but she couldn’t even be jealous as she loved her dearly too. Even with the awkward conversation they had at Scarlett’s luna ceremony she took it in her stride. I couldn’t believe it hadn’t affected their friendship at all.
While Claire was attractive she didn’t have the memorising qualities that Iris did. It was hard not to fall in love with her. She deserved her happily ever after with Oliver, and I knew he would give it to her.
When she finally arrived at Silver Oak I didn’t even give her a chance to unpack.
“Excellent you are here, we are going now. Turns out some of these alphas are keen to meet me !”
It wasn’t surprising really Silver Oak was one of the biggest packs around, as Jackson was a contender for the alpha of alphas, anyone would want him for an ally. Being mated to his sister would secure his support, and with that came the support of Blue Moon.
Oliver and Jackson hadn’t always seen eye to eye but they were firm friends now.
The first pack we were visiting was Goldenacre, the alpha was reported to be very handsome.
As we got out the car flanked by Patrick we were greeted warmly but a very attractive alpha. Claire caught my eye and nodded in approval. He reached out to take me hand “Lovely to meet you Thea, welcome to my pack.”
Alpha Jase had already taken over his pack, he was a few years older than us.
I felt nothing when I touched his hand, but smiled warmly back at him.
We had a lovely time touring around a few packs Claire and I, all of the alphas were nice, handsome in different ways and desperate to impress me. I sighed as we got in the car to leave the last pack, the problem was none were my mate.
I was daydreaming out the window, absentmindedly playing with my locket when I realised Claire was speaking to me.
“So earth to Thea.” She waved her hands in front of my face. “Which one did you like best?”
I pulled a face. “They were all nice, I’m sure they all would be fine but I want my mate.” I said firmly.
She didn’t get a chance to reply as Patrick had to pull over. There was a car blocking the road but it looked deserted.
“Sorry ladies looks like we are going to have to push this out the way. I might need a hand.” He got out to inspect the car. It looked perfectly fine, first he looked inside to see if there were keys then he came back to us. “I’m going to take the handbrake off and see if I can roll it out the way.” I jumped out to help and I saw the grateful look on his face.
“I’ll take of the handbrake Patrick, you make sure it goes the way you want when it starts moving.” He walked to the other side of the car to guide it away from our car if it rolled.
As I climbed inside a feeling of uneasiness came over me. The same feeing I got when I thought I met a strange wolf in the woods. I heard Patrick shout “Ready”. I released the handbrake and breathed out when nothing happened. I was just about to get out when I heard snarling. Five or six wolves had appeared from nowhere.
Instantly Patrick shifted, leaping over the car to my door. “Out now, Thea you need to run, link Jackson when you are close. Run now.” He pulled me from the car and I saw an alleyway. Letting Rupa out I ran for my life. I heard Patrick growl as I left, then the sound of crunching bones. I risked a look behind me and saw Claire has shifted into Sunna her sandy coloured wolf.
Claire had next to no fighting skills but Luke has worked on her defence so she at least had some chance. I wasn’t exactly sure where I was so I was relying on Rupa. I could hear wolves following me, looking back briefly I saw it wasn’t Flint Patrick’s wolf in front. Urging Rupa faster I frantically linked Jackson. I must have been too far away as he didn’t reply.
Faster and faster we flew hopefully towards home, I could still hear the wolves but they didn’t appear to be gaining on me. I had no idea how long I had been running for for when I stared to feel heavy. My pace was slowing despite my best efforts. I could hear the wolves still on my tail I couldn’t give up now.
“Jackson help me.” I linked repeatedly. Finally I heard him reply. “Thea what’s wrong, where are you?” Gasping for air I hoped I wasn’t too far away as I didn’t know how much longer I could keep this up. “Help me, I had to leave Patrick and Claire.”
Moments later I could hear a wolf gaining on me. I pushed Rupa as fast as she could but I still couldn’t see our gates. I was tackled from behind as the wolf lept in the air and I crashed into the floor but the impact send me flying forwards out of the wolf’s grasp. Wind knocked out of my lungs, I forced myself to get up and move. I had barely taken a few strides when I was hit again. This time my attacker didn’t let go. I tried not to freeze, remembering all Luke’s training.
I was the daughter of an alpha I wouldn’t be taken so easily. I leant back into the wolf’s grip and exploded out. I knew I could no longer outrun him so I spun to defend. As the wolfs jaws snapped at my leg I aimed a kick at his face. I missed and just as he lunged again, Onyx smashed into him.
Pinning him to the ground the the picked him up and threw him against the nearest wall. I was panting heavily, my legs struggling to support me as Onyx approached me nuzzling Rupa. I shifted back I was running purely in adrenaline as I hoisted myself into Onyx’s back and let him take me home.
Once we were safely back at the packhouse I dared ask the question I was dreading.
“Are Patrick and Claire ok ?” Jackson didn’t look at me. “I don’t know yet I sent other warriors to them, I haven’t heard.”
I suppressed a sob. “I shouldn’t have left them.”
“You did the right thing, you were the likely target. You would only have made it worse it you stayed to fight.” He pulled me into a hug and Scarlett came running into the room.
Enveloping both of us in her arms, I finally let the tears I was fighting back fall. Would this ever be over ?
