Reminisce
Davina Harper stared at the ceiling fan, contemplating her life. Her mind was reeling and sleep was nowhere to be found. She felt restless. She had to get out of here! Her father, Richard, clearly hated her for some reason. She sometimes wished she just hadn't been born. Every time he looked at her it was never with compassion, but contempt. He was cruel and cold. He constantly scolded her for every little thing.
She wasn't alone though. She had two sisters, Emma and Anna Harper. Emma and Anna were identical twins, and treated much differently than Davina. They could do just about anything they wanted and say anything they wanted and never got reprimanded for it. They got to go places whenever they wanted, whereas Davina was pretty familiar with the word "No" and was scolded if she dared ask "Why". She didn't hate her sisters for it. After all it wasn't their fault, but sometimes she wished that her mother, Jolene, hadn't chose Richard.
Her sisters could have quite the snotty attitude when they wanted to though. Any time they were angry at her they would go tell Richard, not that they even had to because Davina stayed in trouble even when it wasn't her fault. She sighed, remembering her eleventh birthday six years prior. She was looking forward to seeing her best friend, Lena. Usually she was permitted a sleepover with a set number of friends (it was free to have a sleepover). And Jolene would even order pizza and they were allowed to rent a movie! But that year Anna and Emma were having a ballet performance, on her birthday. She remembers it like it was yesterday.
Lena was sitting on Davina's bed with her and they were talking and laughing when Richard suddenly opened her door and walked in with a smirk and said "The sleepover is cancelled." then glared at her and proceeded to throw a small amount of money at her feet and said "Here ya go." and slammed the door walking out. Her best friend Lena's face was one of pure shock. She said "I can't believe that just happened… my dad is my best friend. He would never treat me that way." Lena looked at Davina with a look of pity. Davina just looked down at her hands and said, "It's nothing new..". She and Lena were always close.
Lena Frederickson was the princess of the neighboring Blue Sequoyah Pack and Davina was currently a member of the Black Creek pack by birth. Lena's pack was renowned for being the most peaceful of all the packs. Both packs shared a large school of which Davina and Lena both attended. Fast forward six years and now Davina was seventeen, and inching closer and closer to becoming eighteen, at which point she could leave this place and all the not-so-great memories it held.
She had been laying there this whole time remembering yet another painful memory when she realized her room was absolutely freezing! She already had two pairs of socks on and two old quilts on her bed, so she stood up on her bed to reach the vent on the ceiling so she could close it and hopefully warm up and get some much needed rest. Tomorrow would come early.
