“Come on Gia, come to Vegas with me.” I asked her again.
The draft was in Las Vegas, I wanted her to come and see where my future was going to be. So far she has refused to come
“John, I can’t do that.” She sighed.
“I don’t understand why? I told you I would pay for your ticket. Gia I love you and I want you by my side for this.” I told her blankly.
Gia turned and looked at me, “You love me? You never just said the L word before.”
“Yes, I love you. I’m not going to lie, I admit I can see something with us in the future. That’s why I want you by my side in Vegas. It’s not just my future, it is our future.” I told her honestly.
“Oh John, wow. I am so surprised.” Gia told me.
She came over and wrapped her arms around me and gave me a kiss.
“So does that mean you are coming with me?” I asked her.
Gia kept her head against my chest, she wouldn’t look up at me. Then she said, “I really can’t go. I got booked for a gig the day after you fly out.”
I sighed. This was a sensitive issue. I don’t mind that she is a stripper but now that’s getting closer to the draft, and I know I am going to be in a different state with an NFL team, I want her to do another dancing job.
“Gia…” I started to say.
“Don’t start John, I got to make as much as I can before you leave. We've been through this. I promised you when you start your new team, I will look into dance instructor jobs.”

Dallas, I got drafted in the first round to Dallas. I was in shock. I knew I would get drafted, but I didn’t expect to get drafted in the first round.
Liam got the first round pick for Tampa which was a huge honour that he was the first person to be picked. Eric was also a first round pick for Pittsburgh. So three out of five of us were first round picks, that is amazing.
I got back to the football house. We had to clean it up and move out now. I spent three years at this house. Of course this last year was the most memorable.
Things suddenly felt real to me. I was no longer a college kid. I am suddenly an adult. It is weird knowing this time next week my chapter of the football house is closing and come September, some new college football guy will be sleeping in my room now.
“You look deep in thought there.” I heard from behind me.
I turned to see Gia. “Hey, I wasn’t expecting to see you tonight. I just got back in.” I told her.
“I know, I missed you and wanted to be the first to say, congratulations cowboy.” She said as she smiled at me.
“Yeah, I can’t believe it. I got Dallas, and in the first round.” I told her.
“Well, you did. And you are going to show them that you deserve that spot on their team. I have no doubt about that.” She said to me.
“I love you Gia. I can’t wait till we get our little place in Dallas.” I told her.
Gia took a deep breath and said, “I know, it’s definitely a huge step.”
“You do want to live with me in Dallas right?” I asked her.
I noticed anytime I tell her I love her, she has yet to say it back. I don’t want to pressure her. I know Gia has her demons from her past. Her admitting love is hard for her. That’s why I won’t pressure her.
“I do, I really do it, just this will be a change for both of us. I usually change slowly. But with you, I feel confident. It’s funny we basically met a few months ago on my stripper party bus and now we are together and moving to another state.” She said.
“We both have been through a lot in life. Together we can face anything.” I told her.
“Together, I do like that.” Gia smiled at me.

“Gia, we need to talk!” I yelled as I walked into this little house we were renting in Dallas.
Gia came out of a room she uses as a yoga studio. She was dressed in her sports bra and yoga pants.
“What happened?” She asked me.
“My agent called me, San Francisco wants me, they are willing to make an offer and trade for me. This is big Gia, very big.” I told her.
Gia’s eyes went wide, “We would have to move? To California?” She asked.
“Well, yeah if the deal goes down, yes.” I told her.
“But, we made a home here in Dallas. I got students. We are getting ready to open a business here.” Gia said.
“I know, but Gia San Fransisco is a huge thing. They want me. They actually want me.” I told her.
“You are very good. So I am thrilled that they want you. But John, do we have to move?” She asked.
“Gia I don’t understand what the big deal is. We can move to California, you can start your business there and get new students.” I told her.
“It’s not the same. We have a life here. A good life. I don’t want to go back to being a stripper.” Gia said.
“Whoa, who said you have to be a stripper again? Where is that coming from?” I asked her.
“California is way more expensive than here, John. Plus I know it’s harder to open up a studio there! There are a million of them there because everybody wants to be famous!” She yelled.
“You are making no f*****g sense!” I yelled.
“I won’t go to California!” She yelled.
“So if I get this trade, then what? We are done?” I asked her, frustrated.
“No! I am not saying that!” She gasped.
“Gia how the f**k will we work if I’m in San Francisco and you are here in Dallas?” I asked her.
“John, I love you and love seeing you play. There is only one place I refuse to be with you and that is California. Any other state I will go, but I won’t go to that state. So do not ask me again!” She yelled.
I closed my eyes, I need to calm myself down. I love this woman but she drives me crazy. She makes no sense. What the hell is with California and her?
I grabbed my keys. I need to go.
“Where are you going? You just got here.” Gia said.
“Out. Mikey is in town, I’m going to go meet up with him. I need to cool off. I had awesome news and now I’m pissed off, is that ok with you?” I asked her.
“John, I am so sorry. I am happy that the 49er’s want you. I really am. That is great news.” Gia told me.
I sighed and opened my arms. Gia walked into them and wrapped her arms around me. Then Gia said, “When the trade happens we will figure it out John. I do love you and want the best for you.”
