XAVIER POV
I reluctantly entered the station house, I wanted to stay away from Sierra until I didn’t have people hunting me, but I needed some extra help. I was walking down the hall towards Mack’s desk when someone caught my attention. There was a tall, dark man in a heated conversation with Sierra. I stayed out of view and decided to telepathically eaves drop on their conversation. The anger that was flowing out of my wife was overwhelming! He could tell that the argument was about her latest case. I realized that the guy was Special Agent Trip Johnston with the FBI. This prick was trying to take over her case and my firecracker wasn’t exactly warm to the idea.
Sierra, honey, you need to calm down. I linked her, she was dangerously close to forcing a shift in front of everyone.
Xavier! You scared the hell out of me! What are you doing here?! Are you okay?! She bombarded my link with questions.
From where I was standing I saw her looking around. I am fine, I still have a target on my back but I had to see that you were safe. I am currently in the next room, I can see you please calm down.
She blocked me from reading her thoughts. I could still feel her anger but it was quickly morphing into annoyance. Then I heard her excusing herself from the argument. She turned the corner and came face to face with me. When she looked me in the eyes I saw that her eyes were glowing bright green. The last time I saw her eyes that color was when she confronted Brent Cummings a couple of years ago! I quickly wrapped her up in my arms and breathed in her scent. I just let her hold onto me until we were both calmed down. I pulled back enough from her to look into her eyes. When I saw that her eyes were back to her normal beautiful forest green I let out a sigh of relief. “Hey, babe, who was that guy that you were ‘talking’ to?”
She looked at me with narrowed eyes. “Why do you want to know?” She then glared at me with tears pooling in her eyes. “Do you know how worried I have been? You get kidnapped, Chancey watched her father get taken away now she is afraid that I will disappear too. She is having nightmares, I think. I’m not too sure what happened the other night. You escape but stay away from your family without a word letting us know that you are alive and safe! Why wouldn’t you reach out?” Her voice broke as tears streamed down her face. She crossed her arms over her chest, closing herself off to me in a way.
The look on her face broke my heart. I never wanted to be the reason for her to hurt or cry. I pulled her into my arms, trying to comfort her. I was a little hurt that she didn’t embrace me back like she usually did. I let out a sigh of disappointment. “Sierra, baby, I have not been staying away from you and Chancey by choice. There is still someone after me and I have no idea who or why. If I come home now and led they straight to you and our daughter I would never forgive myself if either of you got hurt because of me!”
She had finally stopped crying but still kept herself closed off to me, I couldn’t even feel her emotions now it was a solid brick wall. Her mind powers had gotten a lot stronger recently. She looked at me. “Then why are you here? You should not be here if you are in that much danger.”
I hated how stubborn she is sometimes, like right now. I rubbed the outside of her arms to keep her calmish. “Well, I need Mack’s help with something.” I said then waited for her reaction.
Sierra’s anger flared up immediately. “Oh, I get it now.” She tried to wrench herself out of my hold but I held on tighter. “Well, if you release me I will just let the two of you do your thing!” I finally had to release her before she broke my hand. She turned and walked towards her desk. When she neared the door of the room I am in she turned her head over her shoulder with a glare that sent a shiver down my back. “Oh, and stay the f**k out of my mind until I welcome you back in!” She moved to walk through the door but I held her back.
“Where are you headed, if you don’t mind my asking?” I knew that when she was in these types of moods it was best just to let her calm down but I couldn’t let her leave like this.
She stared at me for a moment then rolled her eyes. “If you must know I am going to grab the new keys to the house.” She didn’t wait for my reply, she simply left me alone in this room with an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I didn’t have much time to dwell on the feeling when I was met by Mack.
“Hey, Xavier, is everything okay?” Mack asked as he patted me on my shoulder.
I tried to give him a reassuring smile. “Yea, everything is fine, I think.” I answered as I looked back to where Sierra disappeared to.
Mack followed where I was looking and he understood immediately. “Don’t worry about her, she has been having a bad time, you know with you being taken and Chancey having nightmares. She’ll calm down soon enough.” Mack said as he led me to a seat in the room Sierra and I had been. “Not that I’m not glad that you are in one piece what can I do for you?”
I begrudgingly sat down and focused on the original reason I am here. “Before we get down to business, can I ask you a question?”
Mack nodded. “Sure, ask away.” Mack said as he gave me his undivided attention.
“Who was that man that Sierra was talking to, very heatedly?” This was bothering him, he already knew who it was he just needed a little more information.
“Oh, him, he’s from the FBI. He is trying his darndest to take over our case.” Mack said but didn’t offer any more information indicating that he was done talking about it.
I nodded in understanding. “No wonder she is so angry.” I filed that last bit of information away for later. “So, the reason I am here is because I need some help with something.”
Mack eyed me before speaking. “I take it you don’t want Sierra to know about this?” Mack asked hesitantly, clearly not okay with keeping something from his partner.
I nodded. “It would be best if she didn’t know because I am still in danger and I can’t have my family involved with this. I am asking for your help because I know that if something happens to me that you would protect my wife and daughter with your life.”
Mack finally shrugged in defeat. “What is it that you need help with?”
I breathed a sigh of relief. “I need to know everything about a man called Vince ‘Iceman’ Karadeen.”
He nodded as he wrote down the name. “I will see what I can do. Can I ask why you need to know about him?”
I leaned in closer. “He is the fucker that sent those thugs after me. He also contacted me this morning.”
Mack c****d his eyebrow. “Did he say anything important that will help in gaining information?”
I growled. “He only said that I need to watch my back, closely. He told me that the next time he strikes that I won’t see it coming.” I said angrily. “Oh, and that he wants me to be his top assassin!”
I could tell that Mack knew I was leaving something out. “Xavier, in order for me to help you I need to know everything that he said.”
I let out a heavy breath. “Just that I wasn’t the original target, they were after Sierra!”
