Detective Ryans POV
“Sierra, you need to be with your husband. Do you know where Johnston is taking your daughter? Did he want a ransom? What exactly did he tell you or your husband?” Mack asked his questions while he was still in the hospital.
I was seated next to him. “Mack, you need to rest. You are the only guy, besides my husband, that I know who gets nearly killed and the only thing you can think of is the job.” I looked at him long enough to see that he wasn’t budging on the subject. “Alright fine, I am needed here, with you. We have no idea where she is being taken. The only thing he wants is every piece of evidence that we have on the unidentified victims that were in the pit. He didn’t tell Xavier anything but Chancey did.” I stood and headed towards the door before adding. “Oh, and he told the both of us that unless we deliver the evidence he will make Chancey disappear!”
“Wow, that is a lot he is asking of you. Do you know anything about him, other than he’s a sociopath?” Mack tried to sit up in the hospital bed. I could tell that he was sore from the flinching he kept doing as he moved.
I haven’t been able to talk to anyone about his attack but I would not stop until we found them. “Do you know anything about your attackers?” I asked as I helped him sit up.
“I told the officers that shortly after me being put in this room that I heard a couple of voices in my room. So far, I haven’t heard anything more about it.” Mack said in irritation. He then looked at me. “What are your thoughts on this whole situation?”
I thought more a moment. “I don’t think that O’Grady who is parading around as ‘Special Agent Trip Johnston’ is responsible for those unidentified victims. I think that he accidentally uncovered another serial killers dumpsite.” There was something that was bothering me about this whole thing. “I think those voices that you heard were from the one responsible for those victims and he may be the one that is also after O’Grady for blowing his dumpsite.”
Mack nodded that he understood and agreed with me. “I think that you might be onto something. I have learned the hard way to trust your gut instincts so do what you need to guarantee Chancey’s safety and that of our families.”
I nodded to him then stood up. “I need to speak with the Chief about the evidence that we found so far. I need to get updated from the doc so I will come by to see you later with any updates about Chancey.” I leaned over and gave him a gentle hug then backed up towards the hospital room door. I looked over my shoulder. “I am so thankful that you have survived, I’m not ready to lose my best friend and partner! Oh, and Cheryl called me earlier she will be here in about 10 minutes to keep you company.”
Mack smiled back at me. “Please keep me in the loop with both cases.”
I nodded to him then exited the room. As I neared the entrance I noticed Cheryl and Madison entering earlier than anticipated. “Hey Cheryl, Madison, how have you both been?”
Cherly hugged me. “I have been alright, I’ve missed everyone though.” Cheryl nodded with her head in the direction I had just come from. “How is he doing?”
I smiled. “You know your husband, he hates it here. He doesn’t like being idle, he wants to help with the case but he is currently a victim of an assault so his hands are tied and he hates it. He is also driving the nurses insane with his constant pestering to be released against medical advice.”
I then hugged Madison as Cheryl replied. “That sounds like my Mack.” Cheryl noticed the way I was looking at Madison and an uneasy feeling settled in her gaze. “Sierra, where is Chancey? I thought she would be here with you.”
My eyes welled up as I finally broke down. “She has been kidnapped by Garrison O’Grady!”
“Oh my! I am so sorry! Do you know what he wants? How is Xavier holding up?” Cheryl hugged me again.
“O’Grady infiltrated our department as an FBI agent and he wants evidence on another serial killer that we have in our city.” I tried to get control of myself so that I could get to the station, time is of the essence. “I’m sorry, I have to go, we are on the clock to get our daughter back safely! It’s good to see you again please keep an eye on Mack.”
Cheryl nodded in understanding. “Don’t you worry about Mack, I’ll keep an eye on him, you go and get our Chancey safely!”
I turned and exited the building, calling Chief Lewis on the way. “Hey boss, I just left Mack at the hospital and now I’m heading to the station. Mack told me something that was kept a secret from me and I’m pissed!”
There was a pause on his end. “We will discuss what was said when you get in my office! How is Mack doing?”
I scoffed at his dismissal but answered anyway. “Mack is Mack, he is driving everyone insane. He wants to get back to work.” I entered my car. “I will see you in a few I’m leaving the parking lot.” Before he could say anything I hung up the phone. I knew that it was disrespectful but I didn’t care at this point in time. I soon raced off to the station.
