Chapter FortyThey came through the doorway, standing in the forest for a few moments before Jake spoke. “Right. Let's head home and finish this.” Wilf puffed on his pipe, as alien sounds drifted over the Lickey Hills. “What's that noise?” “Just a siren,” Jake replied. “Probably an ambulance or police car. Nothing for you to worry about. I'm going to get the car. Kath, if you all head towards the road over there, I'll meet you in about ten minutes.” “Okay, Jake,” she replied, the far-off noise unsettling her. “Just hurry.” He gave her a kiss before heading down the gravelly path towards his car.
