Chapter 50

Olive's POV

Conner, Laura, and Jasper went with me to the doctor. I didn’t know anything about this place, so I was glad to have company with me. But with Conner, I was starting not to trust him. He was my mate, and I didn't trust him at all. I was careful around him. I couldn't talk for long before feeling a pinch on my side. He wanted me to shut up. I was so sick of that. It hurt when he pinched me, and I would have a bruise on my side for a few days. We arrived at the pack hospital, and the doctor was already there, waiting for us. Conner politely asked the doctor if they could speak privately. Here we go again. Watch, there is nothing wrong with me. They don't know why I think I am sick. The nurse put me in a room, told me to put the gown on, and informed me that the doctor would be in in a few minutes. Laura and Jasper were with me, so I was glad I wasn't alone.

A few minutes later, the doctor walked into the room with a weird look on his face. Conner walked into the room, then told me he was going to the car to get our bags and would be back in a few minutes. Bags? We left our bags at the hotel. I thought we were going to stay at the hotel, not here. What is going on? The doctor drew blood from my arm, checked my blood pressure, and then my vitals. When he was done, he asked me to lay back.

"Alpha, can we talk in private for a few minutes?"

"Of course," he said, looking at Laura and informing her that he would be right back. It didn't take long for him to return to the room with a pissed-off look on his face.

"What's going on? Where is Conner? He should be back by now."

"Conner is being chased so he can be arrested for bribing a doctor. He didn't want the doctor to tell you what was wrong with you. When he left here, he shifted and ran from the pack. I knew something was weird about him; he never visits unless he's done something wrong."

That's when I told them everything; about him going out late at night and not getting home until the morning. I would only feel sick right after he gave me something to drink or made me something to eat. When I started feeling unwell, he would tell me to lay down, and then he would leave and not come home until really late. So, he must have been up to something, and it wasn't good. I was tired, and all I wanted to do was rest. I lay back on the bed, closed my eyes, and must have been really tired because the doctor woke me up with something really smelly. Opening my eyes, I saw a nurse with an IV bag, hanging it up, and then she put the needle in my arm. I hated needles, so I had to turn my head when she did it.

"Just lay back and get comfortable. This will clean your system of all the drugs present."

"Drugs? What drugs? What are you talking about?" I looked around, hoping for an explanation.

"Well, it's not just any drug. It's a pill filled with wolfbane. Conner has been giving you this pill to mask his betrayal. He's been deceiving you for years. I don't know how long he's been doing this, but we are flushing your system now. When Conner is caught, he will be arrested and put on trial. The king will decide his fate."

"But Alpha Conner, he's your cousin, he's family."

"Olive, he might be family, but he has no right to do that to anyone. Before he is sentenced, it's up to you to decide if you want to reject him. You deserve better." I knew he was right. It would be painful, but it was the right thing to do. So, I finally spoke the words I had been holding back for years, 'I, Olive Date, reject you, Conner Onre, as my mate.' Suddenly, a loud howl echoed, confirming our suspicions. Conner was feeling the effects of the rejection.

"I need to inform the alpha about what's happening. He won't be pleased."

"Not right now, you need to rest. The IV still needs to empty, and then we will replace it. You have a significant amount of wolfbane in your system. He's been doing this to you for years. I'm surprised you're still alive. You have a dangerous level of wolfbane in your system, Olive." After speaking, I lay back on the bed exhausted. I had to reach out to the alpha; he needed to know what had transpired. Once everyone left the room, I attempted to mindlink. I believed I had enough energy left to do it. So, before drifting off to sleep and letting the IV take effect, I rushed to make the connection.

“Alpha Niro, I'm not sure if you will be able to hear me since we are so far away. I'm in Conner's cousin pack. Come to find out, Conner has been giving me a dangerous amount of wolfbane for a few years now. They said they were surprised I wasn't dead. They have an IV to clean out my system, and they will put another one up once the other is done. Conner ran and is being tracked down to be put in jail. I'm going to rest now. I'll try to contact you once I'm awake. Once I'm better, I will be on my way back to the pack.

I was tired now and wanted to sleep. Conner didn’t know I was carrying his kit. I lost it a few months ago. Now I know why. I hope he rots in jail. A part of me still loves him, but that part of me needs to be locked away.

In the meantime, Conner was running from Jasper's pack when he felt the rejection of Olive. He screamed in pain as he fell to the ground. He had to wait for the pain to leave before he shifted and ran again. He will take his revenge out on her. He didn't know where he was going. He was sure that Alpha Niro knew what he had done. He will have to hide and make sure he's not found until he's ready to come out of hiding.
