Chapter 31
Summer POV
When my son came to my room and told me what he wanted to do, I thought he was crazy. That could have made her hate us and him even more. But I told him I would take that chance for him. He had a weird way of courting someone. After we talked to her, she seemed fine. She said she wasn't angry at her mother, and I was grateful for that. I really loved Storm. I would have raised Creek on my own. I would have left and gone somewhere far away so he would never see him. And that's what I was going to do until her mother found out. It was a big argument between her and me, and she finally won, telling me if I didn't tell him, she would. And that's what she did. She told him everything. I was in the arch with them, and I told her everything. She wasn't even upset. She said it was before her time; she wasn't even thought of at the time. Oh, she was thought of. She was thought of all the time. It's the reason why she left the pack. Once she found her second chance, they mated and marked each other. They stayed a week and then left because she was pregnant. I didn't find my second chance until ten years later. I still love Storm. He was my first love, and I will always remember him. Sometimes, I even dream of him. I am my mate's second chance as well. His mate cheated on him and then rejected him for another alpha, but that didn't last long at all because she cheated on him as well, and he rejected her, then showed her the door. She came back begging for him to forgive her. He did forgive her, but I walked into the door standing beside him. She realized she was forgiven, but he wasn't going to take her back. But that's a different story. I just hope that these last nine days Creek will be able to show the love that Rice deserves.
Creek POV
I was hoping my mother would tell her the story about Rice's mother, a side of her that she didn't know. I was also hoping she wouldn't be angry. Something tells me that she thought we were related, which would be really gross. After my mom finished her story, she asked her how she felt. She said she wasn't angry with her mother, as it showed that her mother was a good woman. Once my mom left, it was only the two of us. I sat beside her again as she was in deep thought.
"A penny for your thoughts," she turned to smile at me, then she said, "That's a little cheesy but also cute. I was just thinking about my mom. I think she waited until I left; she knew I would have tried to stop her from dying if I could. But she knew it was her time. I asked the moon goddess to give her a second chance, mate. Even if she did, I don't think my mother would have lasted much longer, she just wanted to go, that's all. She lived her life and now she’s up there with the moon goddess. I'm not okay right now, but I know I will be. Thank you for telling me that story about my mother." She was getting up to leave, but I stopped her. I held onto her hand and then I asked her, "Would you like to go on a date with me? I have it all planned out." She looked at her hand and then at me and sighed. "Sure, I would like that. What time should I be ready?"
"We can go right now, just let me take off this jacket. It's kinda stuffy out here," she laughed as I took it off. Then, I changed the shirt with the shirt I had hidden behind a bush. She laughed again. I was loving how she laughed. I took her hand, and then we went to the car.
"I want to take you somewhere where I used to go to think. It’s a beautiful place. I hope you're not scared of heights." We drove for a few hours. She didn't know that I had a blanket with a picnic basket in the trunk. We drove up the mountain. She looked out the window with awe in her eyes. When we stopped, we were on top of the mountain. We got out of the car. I went to the trunk, pulled out the blanket and the picnic basket, and laid the blanket out. Then I placed the basket on top of it.
“You had all this planned. If I had said no, what would you have done?" she smirked with a slight smile on her face. I chuckled and then said, “I would be eating sandwiches with fruit and a bottle of wine, your favorite, red wine. Come here; let me show you what you never would see if you were on the ground." She walked over to me, looked down, and her jaw dropped open.
‘I used to come here when I got upset; I would sit and think for hours. You can see everything from here. Tell me what you see from here," I held her hand as she looked around, then she gasped when she saw something and started telling me what she saw.
“I can see almost everything; I can see our pack from here, I can see the deer, the bears as well. I can also see the werebear that walks around. I can see the rogues that try to run from our land without being seen. I can see the rabbits and many animals that I didn't even know were around. I saw the bald eagles landing on their nest. Did you know they mate for life? I can see the Laura hotel from here, it’s small from this view, but it’s there. It's beautiful up here; thank you for bringing me here," I listened to her talk for a few minutes. Rogues were always trying to get on our land, and when they can't, they run so they don't get caught. Bald eagles always nest in trees.
‘Come on, let's sit down so we can eat. Mom made us some sandwiches and a bowl of fruit. She said fruit is good for us. So let's eat up and drink some wine,’ so that's what we did. We ate and drank the wine, but not too much of it. We don't get drunk as humans do; it takes a lot for us to get drunk. I just know how red wine affects Rice, and I'm not going to do that to her. We stayed out on the mountain until late at night; it was three in the morning when we got back home. I walked her to her room and told her, "Thank you for today. I will see you tomorrow, okay?" I waited until she closed the door, and then I went to my room. I started thinking about what I was going to do tomorrow. When we court our mates, we don't take them to fancy restaurants; we do this differently. I decided what I was going to do tomorrow. I didn't bother showering because I'll shower tomorrow after I get done doing what I will do. It might not be pretty, but it's a part of courting our mate. Let's see if she likes what I have for her tomorrow. I hope she will take it.
