Chapter 17 Laura's POV Everything started out okay. I was showing everyone around, did a little decorating here and there, and I knew Lucy didn't know. I wanted to surprise her, and I could tell she was surprised just by the look on her face. Finally, when we got to the hall, I opened the doors, and you should have seen Lucy's face. I could tell she thought it was beautiful. I even had a piano in the corner of the room. I come in here and play from time to time; it's my peace. I heard someone's voice asking if they could have a ball. I had heard the voice before, but I wasn't sure. I needed to turn around and make sure I knew who she was. I was nervous. Could I be getting my memories back? Goddess, I hope so. When I looked at her, I knew who she was. My head started to hurt, and memories rushed back fast. I was in love with her mate. I even tried to take him away from her. Goddess, help my soul because I feel disgusted with my actions. I asked for forgiveness, and she told me there was nothing to forgive. I told her I would get the paperwork ready and then send it to her. Then she said she would send me the money to rent the room. No, that's okay. This is the first time I have used this room. It was time for the BBQ. Lucy found her mate with a handsome fellow; I think he was Jasper's beta. Wait, did I say Jasper? I hardly knew him, and I remembered his name. I watched them for a bit, smiling, knowing Lucy would finally be happy. I was eating my fries when Jasper sat beside me. He was joking with me when he asked me to feed him a fry. I giggled, then took one of my fries to feed him. He chuckled and took it in his mouth. I bit into my burger. The burgers were really good. I put onion, mayo, pickles, and some coleslaw. Trust me, people, it is the bomb when you do that. It's a little messy, but my goddess, it's so good like that. We were having such a good time; I was smiling from ear to ear. “Guys, I know it's late in the night. If you want, you can stay here for the night and stay in the rooms.” They all agreed. Since that matter was settled, Jasper started speaking to me. “I would like to help with the kitchen and the dining room. I have builders that could assist, and you will have it done in no time. You could also keep the breakfast bar in case people don't want to come to the restaurant and want something fast to eat.” I think he was right. People who want to relax and not worry about rushing off could dine in the restaurant. Those in a hurry could go to the breakfast bar and grab a quick meal. I wondered how long it would take him to build such a place, as I needed to know what the queen wanted cooked for the ball. I could have my cooks prepare the food if she prefers it that way. I asked him, “So, how long would it take for something like that to be built? I mean, I decorated in a few days, but I'm not sure about the construction.” I saw the smile on his face. He was happy that I asked him about it. I could tell he genuinely wanted to help, though I suspected he might only be doing it to be close to me. That's fine by me. I want to get to know him more, so I decided to ask him a few questions. It seemed that we were the only ones outside now. Everyone else had gone to their rooms, and I knew Lucy was training that girl. Since we were alone, I wanted to ask him some questions, so I did. “Since we're out here alone, I want to ask you a few things.” He looked worried but quickly masked it with a smile before saying: "Okay, sure, ask me anything you want. I'll answer the best I can, that is if I know the answer to your question, so ask away." I don't know why, but my heart started to beat really fast. I took a few breaths to calm it down, and then I asked him the first question that I needed to know. And I hoped he had the answer. Alright, here I go. Let's hope he will be telling me the truth because I'll be able to tell if he lies to me. "Alright, so, I knew your sister told me about the war and how I ended up in the hospital. I want to hear your side of the story. How did I end up in the hospital? Is it true that there was a war in the kingdom and I ended up stabbing myself to kill my ex? What did he do that was so horrible that he ended up wanting to hurt me again?" I could tell he was thinking about what I had asked him. I knew he didn't like the memory at all. He started talking, "Yes, there was a war in the kingdom, but we won. Your ex was your first mate; I am your second chance, mate. What he did was so horrible that he beat you up. He beat you so badly that he put you in the hospital. When you woke up, he threatened you to lie to them so he wouldn't get into trouble, but you ended up telling the truth. That's when I came into the picture. Let me tell you, you didn't trust me at first, but I brought you back to my pack, and everyone loved you. It took a while, but you adjusted well. When we heard there was a war in the kingdom, we left to help them. Once the war was over, he escaped, carrying one of the warriors' heads in his hand. You see, we talked about me giving you blood if he ever tried to hurt you again, but then we found the dagger with the ruby in it. We put wolvebane into the ruby. He called for you, and you didn't want to go, but you knew if you didn't, he would always come for you. So once you were there, you looked at me, took the dagger, and stabbed yourself. It went right through you into his heart. I pulled you away from him, and the dagger exploded, making him explode. I gave you my blood, but you wouldn't wake up. We kept you in the kingdom for months, thinking you would wake up. When you didn't, I had people transfer you to our pack, and that's where you stayed." I listened to his story, and I could tell he was telling the truth. He was looking at me with so much love in his eyes. He reached for my hand, but I moved it out of the way. I wasn't ready for that right now. I was just too scared to touch him at the moment. Then I asked another question. "Where were you when I woke up? No one was in the room when I opened my eyes. Would you have stayed if you knew I was going to wake up? And how long have I been in a coma? Did you even consider taking another if I didn't wake up at all? I hurt him on the last question, but I needed to know these things, I wanted to know and needed to know. “I was at a meeting for a treaty with an alpha; his name is Alpha Creek. I didn't know you were going to wake up that day, and if I knew, I would have stayed. I would have held you in my arms, helped you with your fears, and answered your questions. And if you had cried, I would have cried with you. You were in a coma for three years. I stayed by your side unless I had to do some paperwork, shower, eat, or chase rogues off our land. I never even considered taking another mate. You are my one and only. When you die, I will die. We will live in the afterlife together until the moon goddess decides to let us live another life. That's how werecats are; we never take another. Laura, I know you might not believe me, but I'm going to say this anyway: I have missed you so much. I talked to you every single day, told you about my day, what happened that day, and what I did to rogues. I sat there and sang to you and read to you, hoping you would wake up and tell me to shut up because my singing voice was terrible. Well, my sister thinks it's horrible, but that's just her. I love you, Laura. My love for you has not changed one bit.” I couldn't help but ask him after listening to all of what he had to say. I had to ask him one more question, and I hope he will answer it for me. "What song did you sing to me? Would you sing it now?” He smiled, then chuckled and said, "I only know a few verses, but I will sing to you. It was called 'Forever and a Day.'' I hope I don't blow your eardrums out." And then he started singing. (I do not own these songs, I do not own the copyright of this song.) Claire had all but given up, when she and Edwin fell in love. She touched his face and shook her head. In disbelief, she sighed and said, "In many dreams I've held you near, now, at last, you're really here. 'Where've you been?' 'I've looked for you forever and a day.' 'Where've you been?' 'I'm just not myself when you're away. ' He asked her for her hand for life, and she became a salesman's wife. He was home each night by eight, but one stormy evening, he was late. Her frightened tears fell to the floor until his key turned in the door. 'Where've you been?' 'I've looked for you forever and a day.' 'Where've you been?' 'I'm just not myself when you're away.' They'd never spent a night apart, for sixty years, she heard him snore. Now they're in a hospital, in separate beds on different floors. Claire soon lost her memory, forgetting the names of the family. She never spoke a word again. Then, one day, they wheeled him in. He held her hand and stroked her hair. In a fragile voice, she said, 'Where've you been?' 'I've looked for you forever and a day.' 'Where've you been?' 'I'm just not myself when you're away.' 'No, I'm just not myself when you're away.' I knew I shouldn't have stopped him from singing, but he had a beautiful voice. Before he could sing any further, I grabbed him and laid one heck of a kiss on him. Then I stopped what I was doing. He must think I was crazy or something. I got up and ran toward the garden; I needed to be alone so I could think."
