Chapter 5

1503 Words
It was evening, and I was getting ready to leave the office when my phone buzzed with a notification. Reaching for it, I saw a message from an unfamiliar number, one I didn’t recognize. Regardless, I swiped it open. The moment my eyes landed on the text, I knew exactly who it was from. Uncle didn’t just collect gifts from him; he gave him my contact. I don’t know what they’re planning, but I’m not going to be his Luna. We all know he has one, and there’s still no news about her to this day. Just then, a call came in. I sighed, pressing the phone to my ear. “I will see you at the address. I got the message.” I said, not emphasizing how he got my number or even why he had to get me outfits for the dinner. When I checked the parcel, it was an outfit. I wasn't certain if he was the one, but following the text message, I thought he could be the one calling. He probably thinks getting a gift for me is the way to my heart, but I bet he won’t impress me with anything. “Alright. I’ll see you soon.” He responded, and soon I was ending the call, striding out of the office. Getting to the pack house, my maiden stood by the entrance, perhaps waiting for me. I stepped out of the car, striding towards her, reciprocating the smile. “You're welcome, Alpha.” She greeted me, helping me with the bag. “Everything has been set; you just need to shower and change into the outfit.” She informed. Nodding my head, I proceeded to my room. In the next twenty minutes, I was done and made sure I had to check the pack before leaving. Once I was certain everything was in order, I hopped into my car, driving to the location. I wore a floor-length gown that accentuated every curve, the silky fabric clinging to me like a second skin. A thin strap rests lightly on my shoulders, leaving my chest and neck exposed. Uncle must have been the one who gave him a taste of what I like to wear; there's no way he got exactly my size, and it fit perfectly. The next couple of minutes, I was parking in the lot. A guard came forward, helping me with my car door. I thank you, striding to the entrance. Once inside, I was greeted by numerous people dining. Spotting an empty chair, I march in that direction. My heart skipped at the sight of him; I wasn't expecting him. I felt my soul leave my body within seconds. My legs trembled, and the bag I was holding dropped to the ground, causing people to look at me. I couldn’t think of anything but why he was here. I was supposed to meet with Alpha Zack, but why is he the one here? Does this mean my secret had been exposed? Was he here to play some games? It was none besides Alpha Adrian, sitting comfortably on the chair as if expecting someone. We made eye contact, and he strode towards me. The shock on my face was evident; I couldn't hide it. “Are you okay?” He asked, and that was when I realized he had gotten closer, squatting to get my bag. I stood there in bewilderment. Rina, on the other hand, was so excited I thought she’d jump out of my head. I still don’t understand what she likes so much about him that makes her want him for us. “Yes, I’m fine,” I said quickly, taking the bag from him. “I was waiting for you.” He informed me, my eyes widening. “Oh! Okay. Have a seat.” I gestured to the table next to us, and we both sat down. “I’m sorry.” He began, his tone soothing as hell. “I asked my beta to schedule a meeting with you. We should have done that earlier, long before now.” I am more concerned about why he's here. I can't help but think about what he must have seen that day. I don't even know how long he stood there watching me. As I approached the little boy, there was no one closer. That gave me more reasons to quickly heal him on the spot. But seeing Alpha Adrian here… there was probably more to what he saw that day. And why is he here? I'm supposed to meet Alpha Zack and not him. “It’s fine. Why do you want to see me?” I asked, my attention fixed on his mouth, waiting, almost breathless, for him to open up. As I waited, my palms grew sweaty, and my legs trembled with fear. I thought I knew what he was about to say. But to my greatest surprise, he caught me completely off guard. “I was thinking… we could form an alliance.” For a moment, it felt like a strong storm had blown through the room, numbing me. I leaned back in my chair, replaying his words in my head. He wants an ally? Out of nowhere? No, there has to be more. He wouldn’t just show up and propose an alliance without a solid reason. He must’ve seen something, something he believes can benefit his pack. That’s why he’s here. “Ally?” I echoed. “Is there a reason you want us to be allies?” I whispered as low as I could. We are among humans; we can't utter things that will divert attention. “I don’t just want you as an ally.” He said, and it got more fascinating. “I want to make you the Luna of my pack.” My heart thumped so loudly I felt it in my throat. Rina nearly jumped out of my head with excitement, ready to pull him in for a hug. Is he asking me to be his Luna? The Luna of his pack? I shifted in my seat, suddenly uncomfortable, a strange heat rising under my skin. I couldn’t help but wonder, is this a setup? “I can give you time to think about it.” He added, his tone gentle but firm. “But I need your answer before the week runs out.” “Why do you want me to be your Luna?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Because I have no Luna. I lost her to war.” He said quietly. “And since then… It’s just been me and my pain.” His pain? What does he mean by that? “You are the only one I can trust. I have seen the way you handled the border dispute last month. You think before you act; I'm impressed.” I noticed him shifting, probably holding something back, though I wasn’t sure why. “Your father was a good Alpha.” He said. “Someone my father admired and often boasted about. So it’s only fair I choose what’s right for my pack.” He sounded so genuine, so real, you’d believe every word he said. His father was a good Alpha. I still remember meeting him when I turned seventeen. But that doesn’t mean Adrian should take me as his Luna, not when he barely knows me. We are not mates. What if my mate shows up? I’ve only been ruling for four months. There’s been no complaint, no rumor. No bad record under my leadership. If he truly knew me, he would have made his decision based on more than just politics. He rose from the chair before I could speak. “I’ll give you some time.” He said. “Just don’t forget, before the weekend runs out.” His tone sounded authoritative. “Alpha Adrian,” I called softly, making him pause mid-step. I gathered the courage to stand, carrying myself forward until I was right in front of him. “The other day.” I began, but the words caught in my throat as I stared into his eyes—piercing blue, the kind that could make any woman bow to him. His chest was broad, solid… a place any woman would want to rest her head. “Did you see me?” I asked. He looked away briefly, and that told me everything. He had seen me. He saw what I could do. He wanted my powers. That’s why he came. That’s why he asked me to be his Luna. There’s no way he would choose someone he barely knew unless there was something in it for him. I followed his gaze, only to be met with Alpha Zack. He stood a distance away, watching both of us; his gaze held disgust and loathing. “I want you as my Luna.” He said at last, his voice low and sure. “And more importantly… you’re my cure.”
