Elara
It had been a long day at the office. Trying to get things in place before the container arrives, it's quite a lot of work. I was satisfied; I had managed to clear my desk. Work would be even better tomorrow.
It’s been an hour since I got to the packhouse, yet I still can’t help but think about the man from yesterday. I know him, even though it’s been ages since I last saw him. He’s the alpha of the Mooncrest Pack—a fierce and dangerous alpha who exudes power, fear, and dominance.
I’ve heard he’s dominant, commanding, and scary. But above all, he’s a true Alpha who cares for his pack. That kind of alpha would put someone he cares for first. But why am I having such thoughts?
'You should meet with him and get to know him,' Rina squealed, her voice practically buzzing with excitement. I have never felt her this giddy over an Alpha; he's not even our mate.
I want someone who my heart wants if I can't find my mate, but not him. Nothing is exciting about him, none that I have discovered. I'm more worried about him finding out my powers; that would be a problem.
He was there; I didn't notice him, but does that mean he saw me heal the boy? Nobody knows about my powers except for my father; not even Uncle Xavier is aware of it. We have done an outstanding job hiding it from the pack members.
'Don't worry about your powers; I'm sure he didn't see you heal the little boy. If he did, he would have reached out to you' Rina sounded confident, and I want to believe it's true.
It’s something I’ve learned to keep hidden all my life, so I can’t just let anyone find out. Father never allowed me to get involved in war because of this. I can't afford to make any mistakes right now.
Lost in thought, I felt something warm against my hands, pulling me back to the present. Looking up, I saw my personal maiden, her eyes filled with concern as she stared at me. She has been a great help to everyone in the pack—especially me. A wonderful listener and a wise adviser.
For a moment, she flashed me a gentle smile, and I didn’t hesitate to return it.
“Is everything okay? I haven’t seen you like this in months.” She cupped the mug of tea in my hands, then placed both of her hands on my shoulders, standing directly in front of me. “If you’re thinking about your mate, don’t let it weigh you down. Therapy is always an option, and remember, you get to choose. You know that.”
My maid knows me so well, but this time, she’s wrong. I’ve spoken to her about my mate, whom I’ve yet to meet. So it makes sense that she would assume he’s the reason I’m this moody.
It’s been months since I’ve felt like this. I don’t have anything to worry about, aside from the company and my pack.
Uncle Xavier has been helping me whenever I need him, so I really shouldn’t have anything else on my mind. Except for the days that I have to defy his orders.
I opened my mouth to speak but closed it again. Instead, I just nodded in understanding, gripping the mug more tightly.
“Thank you for the tea.” I raised the mug with a tight-lipped smile. “How about my uncle? Has he come around?” I asked even though I was certain he hadn't. The little argument at the office triggered him, and this is how he punished me, by not coming to check on me.
“Yes, I saw him earlier today. I thought you were back from the office when I saw him, but when I checked, I didn't find you.” .
I dropped the cup of tea, rising from the couch. She didn't just tell me he came around; no way, he probably came to check on some pack members, not to look for me.
“Is everything okay?” She asked, noticing the sudden reaction from me.
“No, I’m fine. You can leave.” I dismissed her, settling back on the couch with the cup of tea as thoughts flowed through my head.
He came to see you; you have to believe it! Rina squealed in my mind, obviously still excited about Alpha Adrian.
I brushed it off. He probably came to check on the pack members or had something important to do.
Setting the mug aside, I made my way toward the stairs. Just as I reached the last step, I heard my name.
“Elara!”
The tone, I didn’t need anyone to tell me it was my uncle.
Spinning around, I descended the stairs again and stopped right next to him.
At first, he wore a condescending look on his face, but it quickly shifted into a smile.
“Hello, Uncle! How was your day?” I asked, giving him a light hug. My eyes immediately landed on the parcel in his hands. Clearly, he hadn’t come just to see me; he came for a reason.
“It was fine. I was asked to give this to you. It’s a gift from Alpha Zack.”
A gift? When did this start? I’m not going to that dinner he requested, so why would he send a gift? And what is it?
My brows furrowed as I hesitated to take the package from him. He won’t stop until I meet with Zack. What’s so important that I have to see him?
“You should accept it. I’m not sending it back to him.” My uncle said coldly. “If you don’t get to know him, you won’t like him.”
“I’m not turning down his gift. I’ll accept it, but the dinner? I’m not interested.”
There was a moment of silence; he shifted on his feet, his hands moving to his back, fingers twitching, like he wanted to say something but couldn't.
I raised my brows, stepping a bit closer to him as I waited for him to speak.
“Too bad.” He said. “I already told him you’d be coming. He’s pleased, and he can’t wait to meet you.”
“You did what? Come on, Uncle! I would rather not be with him. We all know he has a Luna, and no one even knows her whereabouts.”
“You have no business with his Luna. If he had a Luna, he wouldn’t be looking to take you as his wife.”
“Wife? Did you just say his wife?” I c****d an eyebrow.
“I’m not going to have this conversation with you.” He said firmly. “Just go on the date. If you don’t like him, I won’t bother you about it again.”
“Is that a promise?”
“Have I ever gone back on my word?” He asked, softening just slightly. “I’m doing this because I want you to have someone by your side, an Alpha who will protect you when I’m no longer there.”
He sounded like he was going to die, and it got me worried. I sighed, giving up. There was no point arguing anymore. If I didn’t like him, there’d be no further persuasion.
“When is the dinner?” I asked.
“Tomorrow evening, just make sure you look stunning for him.”
'Why should you? It's not like you're going for a date with your mate.' Rina said.
"Alright. Tell him I say thank you." I responded, turning to leave before he could leave the house.
