Chapter 3

1150 Words
Immediately I was done with my client, we exchanged pleasantries, said goodbye, and soon we were on our way out of the building. Upon getting to the parking lot, I hopped into the car. Jai was already driving out when we sighted a little child running towards his mother, perhaps in the wrong direction, because there was a sharp object nearby, and he was close to reaching it. Just as he ran, the object in his path blocked his way, causing him to stumble and somersault to the ground. Right on time, Jai stopped, and I stepped out of the car, scurrying to him. But just before I could reach him, a lady was already holding him, helping him up off the floor. For a moment, it felt like the whole world stopped; every living thing held its breath. She didn't speak, but power exuded from her, silencing everything around her. The intensity of her power, stirred something deep within me. My wolf purred in awe. I got closer, freezing at the sight of what I had just seen. Did she just heal him? She was healing the boy's injury. He had a cut from the fall, which had started bleeding, and right in front of my eyes, she healed him. She didn’t do much, just a touch, and the blood disappeared. Even the drops on the floor vanished. That wasn’t all. It seemed that when she healed, she felt the pain too, because for a moment, blood trickled from her nose, but she quickly wiped it off. I stared in amazement. That didn’t just happen right in front of me… did it? “Yes, it did. You saw it.” My wolf responded in my head, but I ignored him. The child’s mother came running and took the boy from her. “I’m so sorry. Do you have any injuries?” The mother asked, checking the boy’s body. “He’s fine. He didn’t sustain any injuries.” She replied, stroking his hair gently; the part where she had healed him seemed like it never happened because no one saw her. "Thank you so much for saving him.” The mother said before turning to leave. I stood there, still stunned by what had just happened. Thoughts of who she might be filled my head. Her back was to me, so I couldn’t see her face. But that scent, calming, comforting. “Alpha! Did you witness that?” Jai asked, but I was too flabbergasted to respond, my gaze on her. She turned to leave but paused when she noticed I was watching her; we made eye contact. "That’s the daughter of the late Alpha Zion.” Jai whispered, just loud enough for both of us to hear. I wasn’t sure if he knew what I was thinking, but if she was a werewolf, then maybe I had just found the remedy to the curse. Her hands trembled slightly as she stared back at me, eyes unsure, body tense. She could’ve walked away. But she didn’t. And that silence said more than words ever could. The next three minutes became a silent debate of stares, until she finally turned on her heels and walked into the building we had just marched out from, right after picking up the object. "Alpha! She's a rare breed?” Jai said, though it sounded more like a question than a statement. I didn’t even know how to react; I just stood there, watching as she disappeared inside. Had the goddess remembered me? The pain, the torment, the long wait for salvation… was it finally coming to an end? I couldn’t help but wonder, and just the thought of it made my chest tighten "Her mate.” My wolf said, instantly ruining the moment. He was right. Her mate, she must have a mate. She definitely had one. But I didn’t know much about her. I had not recognized her because she had changed. Her father was a great warrior, one of the few Alphas who could defeat thousands. He fought alongside my father. “Do you think she rejected her mate?” I asked him. “We can find out if you investigate further. There's a possibility she rejected him, or maybe he rejected her.” “What should I do, Alpha?” Jai asked from behind me. “Gather everything you can about her. I know her father died. She’s been ruling the pack with her uncle’s help. I want all the information.” I ordered, my tone sharp with authority. Once I was settled, the scene replayed in my head. I wasn’t sure if she felt pain when she healed people, but the blood on her nose before she wiped it off—that moment stayed with me. Do you think she knows she has such powers? It happened so fast. It was like she knew the little boy was injured even before she reached him. Does that mean she can see or feel before she gets there? There’s no way she doesn’t know, my wolf responded. Maybe that’s why she still doesn’t have a mate, but that didn’t make any sense to me. If she had such powers, there’s no way her mate wouldn’t want her, unless he didn’t know what she had. Let’s wait until we get information on her. Later that night, I was in my study when Jai showed up. He walked over, his head bowed respectfully, handing me some papers. “Just like you said, since her father passed away, she's been ruling the pack alongside her uncle, who’s been helping her with the family business too.” He reported. But that wasn’t what I wanted to hear. “What about her mate? Did he reject her?” “She’s yet to find her mate, and she’s willing to wait until they finally meet.” “She’s yet to find her mate?” I repeated, and he nodded. But how is that possible? She is twenty-three; she should have a mate by now or already be Luna to some Alpha. If she were truly fine, her father would’ve persuaded her more. “We both know it’s possible to find your mate early. If she’s yet to have one, I think the goddess reserved her for you.” Jai said. “You need to get to her before the full moon. I believe she can save us.” My wolf added. But it wouldn’t be that easy, especially with her still waiting for her mate. A female Alpha who refuses to settle for anyone who isn't hers by fate… convincing her would be difficult. “I need to meet with her,” I said, determination lacing my tone. I had to meet with her and have a little chat. It’s perhaps been forever since anyone spoke about their father. Maybe that would be the best way to start.
