The Arranged Dinner

1300 Words
Michael felt a mix of emotions when his father dropped the bombshell on him. He was surprised that his father had arranged a dinner with the Mendoza family without even consulting him. He felt a sense of unease about the situation, as he had no idea who the girl was that he was going to marry. Michael felt a sense of reluctance to comply with his father's wishes, but at the same time, he knew that he had to go along with it for the sake of his family's reputation and business interests. He felt a sense of pressure to meet the expectations of his family and to fulfill his obligations as the heir to the Arellano company. As Michael thought about the dinner, his mind raced with questions and uncertainties. What would the girl be like? Would they have anything in common? How would he know if he could love her? Despite his doubts and reservations, Michael knew that he had to face the situation head-on and attend the dinner with an open mind. He took a deep breath, composed himself, and made his way to the meeting place, hoping for the best. Sarah had a million thoughts running through her mind as she hurried back home. She knew that she was about to face one of the biggest decisions of her life, and the thought of it made her anxious and uncertain. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of man her grandfather had chosen for her, and whether or not she would be able to spend the rest of her life with him. As she entered her house, Sarah was greeted by the excited faces of her parents. They had been waiting for her, eager to hear what she had decided. "Have you made a decision?" her mother asked, her eyes searching Sarah's face for any sign of hesitation. Sarah took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. "Yes," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "I'll do it. I'll meet the man my grandfather chose for me." Her parents looked relieved, and Sarah could see the happiness in their eyes. But even though she had made a decision, Sarah still couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty that lingered inside her. As the day of the meeting approached, Sarah couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. She was nervous, anxious, and scared, all at the same time. But she was also determined to see this through, to make her parents proud, and to honor the agreement that her grandfather had made. When the day finally arrived, Sarah dressed up in her best clothes and put on a brave face. As she made her way to the meeting place, she felt a sense of dread wash over her. What if the man didn't like her? What if they had nothing in common? What if she was making a mistake? As Sarah enters the restaurant, she exudes elegance and sophistication in her velvet deep V-neck wrap split hem long sleeve midi dress. Her hair is styled in loose waves that cascade down her shoulders, and her makeup is natural, enhancing her natural beauty. The server approaches her and asks for her appointment. "A dinner appointment with Mr. Arellano, please," Sarah replies, her voice steady and confident. The server leads her to a table where she notices a man sitting with his back turned to her. As Sarah walked towards the table, Michael stood up and greeted her with a polite smile. "Good evening Miss Mendoza," he said, surprised that it was the same woman who had bumped into him on her first day of work. He remembered how she had rushed off without even apologizing. Despite his initial annoyance, Michael knew he had to be civil and polite, especially since they were both here for an important dinner appointment. He pulled out a chair for Sarah and gestured for her to take a seat. Sarah noticed the smirk on Michael's face and felt uneasy. She knew that he might still be holding a grudge against her for their previous encounter. She couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed, knowing that she should have apologized when she had the chance. However, she didn't want to let her nerves get the best of her, so she put on a smile and thanked Michael for the seat. She sat down gracefully and started to glance at the menu, hoping that the dinner would go smoothly. As soon as Michael and Sarah have taken their seats, there was a moment of silence, then Sarah broke the silence by saying... "I'm sorry about what happened before," Sarah said in a soft voice. "I should have been more careful, and I apologize if I caused you any inconvenience." Michael's expression softened slightly, and he nodded in acknowledgement. "It's alright," he replied calmly. "No harm done." Sarah felt relieved that Michael wasn't holding a grudge against her. She then tried to steer the conversation towards the matter at hand. "So, about the agreement our grandfathers made," Michael began, "what are your thoughts about it?" Sarah took a deep breath and leaned back on her chair. She tried to collect her thoughts and compose herself before answering Michael's question. She knew that this was a serious matter and she needed to approach it with maturity and logic. "Well," Sarah began, "to be honest, I'm still trying to process everything. I never expected something like this to happen and it's all quite overwhelming. But, at the end of the day, it's our family's tradition and I respect that. I just hope that we can both make the best out of this situation and work towards a positive outcome for both of us." Sarah's words were measured and diplomatic. She didn't want to come off as dismissive or insensitive to the gravity of the situation, but she also didn't want to show any weakness or uncertainty in her stance. Michael nodded in agreement, but couldn't help but feel a little skeptical about Sarah's agreement to the marriage. He knew that her family was not as well-off as his, and he couldn't help but wonder if she was just taking advantage of the situation to improve her own status. But he tried to push those thoughts aside and stay focused on the task at hand. As the food was being placed on the table, Michael cleared his throat and turned to Sarah. "So, have you been in a relationship before?" he asked her, breaking the silence. Sarah looked up at him, a little taken aback by the sudden question. "Uh, no, not really," she replied, feeling a little embarrassed. Michael nodded, seeming to take her answer in stride. "Same here. I guess we're in the same boat." "I'm trying to be civil as much as I could, Mr.Arellano, with a serious tone. There was an air of tension between them. Michael's playful attitude vanished as he realized the seriousness of the situation. He cleared his throat before responding, "I apologize if my comment was out of line, Ms. Mendoza. I assure you, I have the utmost respect for you. Sarah relaxed a bit at Michael's apology. "Thank you," she said with a small smile. "I just want to make sure we have a clear understanding of our arrangement." Michael nodded in agreement, "Of course, I understand. And I agree with the conditions we have set. We will live our lives as we see fit and will consummate our marriage only when we both agree to it." Sarah felt a sense of relief and a little bit of gratitude towards Michael for being understanding. She smiled and said, "Thank you for being cooperative, Mr. Arellano." Michael returned the smile, "Please, call me Michael. We're going to be married, after all."
