Complicated Relationships and Business Arrangements

1133 Words
Michael slowly opened his eyes and squinted at the morning light filtering through the curtains. He woke up groggily, rubbing his eyes as he tried to shake off the remnants of sleep. His gaze immediately fell on the mess around the hotel room, bottles of beer scattered haphazardly on the floor and cigarette butts strewn about. As he sat up in bed, he surveyed the room. He woke up with a woman beside him. It was Lucy. It seemed like Michael had a complicated relationship with Lucy. He was used to her constant presence and her ability to always know when to approach him. This made him feel like he couldn't escape her or the problems that came with her. Perhaps they had a history together, and their relationship was tumultuous. Michael may have tried to distance himself from her in the past, but she always found a way to come back into his life. This pattern had left him feeling trapped and unable to move on. Despite the difficulties in their relationship, there was also something that kept drawing Michael back to Lucy. Maybe it was the excitement and passion they shared, or perhaps he was afraid of being alone. Whatever it was, it seemed like he couldn't resist her. As he looked at her sleeping on the bed, surrounded by empty beer bottles and cigarettes, he couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. But then Sarah's name popped into his mind and his annoyance doubled. He was going to marry her, a woman who had something with Marvin. The thought of competing with Marvin, yet again, for Sarah's affection made him feel resentful. "Why is it I need to compete with him all the time?" he muttered to himself, feeling frustrated with the situation. He didn't understand why Sarah would even consider being with Marvin when he was clearly the better choice. Then, a jolt of realization hit him. "Compete for Sarah? Man, it was just an arrangement, nothing else," he reminded himself, trying to push away any feelings of jealousy. He knew his marriage to Sarah was purely for business reasons and he had to remind himself of that fact. With a heavy sigh, he leaned back on the bed, his mind preoccupied with the complications of his personal life. He knew he had a lot to figure out, but for now, he was content to watch Lucy sleep and enjoy the peace and quiet. Sarah was running for work not to be late and as she reached the elevator, she saw Michael already inside it. She hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to step in or wait for the next one, but ultimately decided to get in. Sarah had been dreading the moment when she would have to face Michael. She had hoped she could avoid it by taking the stairs, but it was already too late when she saw him in the elevator, but decided she couldn't be late for the presentation. As she stepped inside, Michael's cold demeanor immediately put her on edge. She greeted him with a polite "Good morning," but he only responded with a curt and chilly "Good morning." The silence in the elevator was uncomfortable, and Sarah could feel the tension between them. She couldn't help but feel nervous, wondering what was going on in Michael's mind. Suddenly, Michael broke the silence with a snide comment about her night with his boss, "and she felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. It infuriated Sarah. She tried to downplay it, stating that it was just a normal dinner between a boss and an employee. But Michael was quick to point out that they were getting married, which made her feel even more frustrated. Michael: So, how was your dinner with Marvin last night? It seemed you really had fun. Finally, Sarah couldn't take it anymore and reminded Michael of their arrangement. She made it clear that it was her life, and he had no right to judge her for what she did. She also pointed out that he had his own fun with Lucy, which was even worse than what she did. Sarah took a deep breath and continued, "Look Michael, I know things are complicated between us. But we both agreed to this marriage for our own reasons. You have your own life and I have mine. We shouldn't judge each other for what we do outside of work." "Michael, let's be clear here," she continued. "Last night, you were out having fun with Lucy as well. And while I may not agree with her behavior, I didn't judge you for it. So why are you judging me for having dinner with my boss?" Michael looked taken aback by Sarah's words, but she wasn't finished when the door opened. "Anyway, hope you will have a nice day," Sarah said as the elevator doors opened. She stepped out of the elevator, feeling a mix of frustration and relief. She was glad the conversation was over, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that Michael was being unfair to her. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her racing heart as she made her way to the presentation. Sarah's mind was still reeling from her encounter with Michael in the elevator. She couldn't believe he had the nerve to bring up her dinner with Marvin, and then try to make it seem like she was the one in the wrong for having a simple meal with her boss. She knew she had every right to be angry with him, but at the same time, she didn't want their argument to affect her work. Michael walked into the office and immediately spotted Marvin sitting in his chair. He made his way over to him, trying to ignore the feeling of jealousy that was creeping up inside him. He had no right to be jealous, after all. His marriage to Sarah was purely for business purposes. But seeing Marvin's smug smile, Michael couldn't help but feel a twinge of anger. Michael's mind was still clouded with thoughts of Sarah and her dinner with Marvin. He couldn't shake off the jealousy and anger he felt towards Marvin as his boss. As Marvin started talking about his appointment with clients, Michael couldn't help but be sarcastic in his response. "Sounds like a busy day, Marvin. I'm sure you'll be the life of the party," he said with a smirk. Marvin looked at him quizzically, sensing a change in Michael's behavior. He couldn't help but wonder if it had something to do with Sarah. As the meeting ended, Marvin approached Michael and asked if everything was okay between them. Michael put on a fake smile and said, "Of course, everything's fine. Just had a lot on my mind."
