A Night to Remember

1312 Words
As the night passed, Sarah found herself staying late in the office, tirelessly working on finishing all her office chores. She had an important presentation with the client the following day and she wanted to make sure that everything was perfectly in order. Meanwhile, Michael happened to notice a woman working in the marketing department, and to his surprise, it was Sarah. He had been meaning to talk to her, but as luck would have it, he had already made dinner plans with Lucy, who was waiting for him in the lobby. Despite his desire to speak with Sarah, Michael knew that he couldn't keep Lucy waiting any longer, and so he decided to go ahead with their dinner plans. Marvin saw Michael staring at Sarah, who was working quietly at her desk. He observed that Michael didn't seem bothered that his fiancée was working all night, and didn't even say goodbye before leaving. When Michael left the floor, Marvin decided to go to the marketing department and stood at Sarah's cubicle. Marvin couldn't believe how focused and diligent Sarah was, working late into the night. He approached her desk and stood there silently for a few seconds, just watching her. When she looked up, he greeted her with a warm smile, and Sarah was surprised to see him there. Marvin complimented Sarah on her hard work and dedication, telling her how her colleagues had been singing her praises all day. He expressed his admiration for her work ethic and passion for her job. Sarah was taken aback by Marvin's kind words, especially coming from someone like him. Marvin then invited Sarah to join him for dinner. Sarah was hesitant at first, as she had a lot of work to do and didn't want to be a burden on Marvin's plans. But, she felt a flutter in her stomach as Marvin invited her to dinner. She had always found him charming and handsome, and now that he was standing in front of her, she couldn't help but feel a little giddy. As she looked into his warm and inviting eyes, Sarah felt her heart racing. At first, Sarah hesitated, unsure if it was appropriate to go out to dinner with the OIC. But Marvin was insistent, and Sarah couldn't resist his charm. Plus, after working late into the night, she knew she deserved a break. With a smile, Sarah agreed to join Marvin for dinner, feeling excited and a little nervous about what the night might bring. She quickly gathered her things, making sure everything was in order for the presentation the following day, and then followed Marvin out of the office and into the cool night air. In the car...Sarah felt a flutter in her stomach as Marvin got in the car. She had always found him charming and handsome, and now that he was sitting next to her, she couldn't help but feel a little giddy. As she looked into his warm and inviting eyes, Sarah felt her heart racing. As Sarah and Marvin entered the restaurant, they were greeted by the warm, cozy ambiance of the place. The soft music playing in the background added to the romantic vibe. However, the atmosphere quickly changed as Marvin noticed Michael and Lucy at a nearby table. Michael's stern look in their direction made Sarah feel anxious and uncomfortable. She could feel her heart racing and her palms getting sweaty. Sarah tried her best to avoid making eye contact with Michael, but she couldn't help stealing glances in his direction. As Marvin and Sarah walked past Michael and Lucy's table, Marvin gave a nod in their direction, acknowledging their presence. In response, Lucy tossed a glass in the air as a way of greeting. Michael felt a mix of emotions as he watched Marvin and Sarah enter the restaurant. He was surprised and a bit uncomfortable seeing them there, especially since he was there with Lucy. As Marvin nodded at him, Michael could feel his anger rising. He couldn't believe that Marvin was also showing interest in Sarah. As Lucy tossed a glass to greet Marvin and Sarah, Michael tried to compose himself. He took a deep breath and forced a smile. But inside, he was seething with anger and jealousy. Lucy noticed the changes on Michael's face and asked him, "I thought it was just an agreement?" She could tell that something was bothering him and wanted to know what was going on. Michael tried to brush it off and replied, "It is just an agreement. I'm just surprised to see them here." But Lucy wasn't convinced. She could sense that something was off, and she knew that Michael was not being entirely truthful with her. Lucy looked at Michael with concern as he stared at Sarah and Marvin's table. "Michael, what's going on?" she asked. Michael turned to Lucy, still with a hint of disbelief on his face. "I just can't believe it," he said. "I never thought Sarah would be the type to lead two boats." Lucy sighed and shook her head. "Michael, remember it was just an agreement. Michael nodded, but there was a sadness in his eyes. Lucy placed her hand on top of Michael's, giving it a gentle squeeze. "For now, let's just enjoy our dinner and try to forget about everything else." As the night went on, Sarah grew increasingly uncomfortable watching Michael and Lucy display their affection in public. She remembered how Michael had responded to her questions about his previous relationships, saying they were all the same and not really significant. But looking at him now with Lucy, it seemed quite the opposite. It was a shock to Sarah because she had always thought they were just good friends. Sarah tried to focus on her dinner with Marvin, who had kindly offered to take her out. She tried to engage in conversation with him, but her mind kept wandering back to Michael and Lucy. She tried to hide her discomfort, but Marvin noticed and asked if she was okay. Sarah smiled weakly, assuring Marvin that she was fine. She knew she had to put her focus back on her presentation tomorrow and the dinner in front of her. She took a deep breath and tried to ignore Michael and Lucy's affectionate display. However, it was difficult to shake off the uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. Marvin and Sarah watched as Michael and Lucy left the restaurant. After they left, Marvin turned to Sarah and asked her about her engagement. He knew it was a personal question, but he was curious. "How is it to be in that arrangement?" he asked. Sarah was taken aback. She didn't expect Marvin to know about the engagement, and she wasn't sure how to respond. She took a sip of water and cleared her throat before answering. "It's... complicated," she said hesitantly. "We made the arrangement for our families, but sometimes it feels like we're just going through the motions." Marvin nodded thoughtfully. "I can imagine," he said. "But have you ever thought about what you really want? Do you really want to marry Michael, or is there someone else you'd rather be with?" Sarah was surprised by Marvin's directness, but she appreciated his honesty. She took a deep breath and thought about his question. "To be honest, I'm not sure," she admitted. Marvin reached across the table and took Sarah's hand. "You deserve to be with someone who loves you and wants to be with you," he said. "If Michael isn't that person, then maybe it's time to reevaluate your arrangement." Sarah felt a warmth spread through her chest at Marvin's words. She had never felt so understood and cared for by someone outside her family. She squeezed Marvin's hand and smiled at him. "Thank you," she said softly. "I needed to hear that."
