The Wolfless Alpha

Chapter 9

Sarah’s POV

He left.

Alpha Mason left after the meeting that too without crossing paths with me.

He came to the pack house like a storm but left without destroying my new life.

I am so glad and so grateful towards moon goddess that she heard my prayers and protected me from him.

The entire time he was here in this pack, I spent it in my room, hiding myself. My heart was hammering in my ribcage and fear had gripped my insides.

I would have gotten another panic attack if it wasn’t for Grayson, who stayed by my side whole time, assuring me that nothing will happen.

That he is here with me and he won’t let anyone take me. He had pulled me in his arms and was rubbing my back and caressing my hairs till I fell asleep.

And when I opened my eyes in the morning, Grayson informed me that Alpha Mason has left.

A wave of relief had washed over me upon hearing his words.

Currently I am heading towards kitchen to start my work for today. Grayson went to do his work as well.

As soon as I entered in the kitchen, Lana rushed towards me and asked me gently,

“Are you okay?” she asked.

“I am” I replied while nodding my head. My eyes widened a little when she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me in a warm hug.

“I was so worried about you” she whispered. Her voice is laced with relief and genuine concern.

I smiled at her words.

Our small hug was broken when Bella walked into the kitchen.

“Oh… God Sarah, are you okay? How are you feeling now?” she asked me. Worry is written all over her face.

“I am fine Bells” I said. After few seconds of inspecting me she nodded her head.

I can tell they wanted to ask what happened, but I am glad they didn’t.

Lana told me to rest for the day but I refused.

It will be too much work for them as today there is going to be an Alpha Ceremony.

Our pack will have a new Alpha.

I hope this one will be different and better than Alpha Aiden.

I didn’t like him at all.

He was very arrogant and egoistic. He was cruel as well. He didn’t care about his pack members and never punished those who used to bully low rank wolf.

Leave being a good Alpha, he was not even a good mate.

I saw him with other women of pack even after finding his fated mate. He used to humiliate her. He was hurting her a lot. He even used to hit her.

I really felt bad for the poor girl. She seemed very innocent and fragile to me.

I haven’t seen her ever since Alpha Aiden’s death. She never came out of her room. Not even to have her food.

I don’t know why.

I was lost in my thoughts when Martha entered inside the kitchen.

“Stop chit chatting and get started with work. We have lost of work today” she said in a stern tone.

“Yes Martha” we said in unison.

Bella began preparing breakfast for everyone while Martha told me and Lana about the menu for ceremony.

Almost all the pack members will come so we will have to cook many variety of dishes in large quantity.

When she was done instructing us, she said, “remember no mistakes will be entertained.”

After saying this she left.

I and Lana joined Bella in making breakfast.

I still remember the day of Alpha ceremony when Alpha Aiden has took over the pack.

It was a very grand function.

That day we had to cook more than what we have to today. But still it is going to be a tiring day for all the maids.

Hours passed by in blur while working in the kitchen.

Entire pack house is very busy in preparing for the ceremony.

“Do you know who is going to be our new Alpha?” I asked, no one in particular.

I have no idea for whom we are doing so much hard work.

“I heard he is Alpha Zander's youngest son” Bella answered.

“I didn’t know Alpha Zander had another son” I said.

In the last three years of my stay here, I never heard about his second son.

“He ran away from the pack. It was the same time when you came to our pack” this time Lana said.

“ran away? Why?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.

Why would an Alpha’s son run away?

It is not as if someone would have bullied him. It is usually Omegas or low rank wolves who escape from their pack when it becomes difficult for them to live in the pack and bear the torture from high ranked wolves for no reason.

I saw Lana and Bella exchanging looks at my question.

None of them said anything which perked my curiosity even more.

“Tell me, what happened?” I asked.

But before anyone can say anything the door of the kitchen was opened gaining our attention.

My eyes widened slightly when my gaze locked with the same green ones which helped me yesterday.

He looked at Bella and asked her politely,

“Can you set some food in a tray with a glass of juice?” he asked.

“Ye.. yes, I will” Bella said and began working.

I couldn’t look away from him. As if sensing my gaze, he looked in my direction.

His green eyes were blank but still they were the most beautiful for me.

“How are you now?” he asked me firmly.

“I am fine now. Thank you for yesterday” I replied. I wanted to thank him since the moment I woke up but didn’t know where to find him.

I don’t even know his name.

“Here Alpha” Bella said while handling the tray to him.

My eyes widened in shock when she addressed him as Alpha.

Is he our new Alpha?

The question popped in my mind.

He thanked her with a small smile before leaving.

I have never seen anyone in Alpha or Beta family thanking a maid like this.

There has to be a mistake.

I must have heard wrong.

There is no way that man was Alpha.

Even though he looks strong and intimidating with his tall figure, broad shoulders and masculine built but he doesn’t have that dark and dominating aura around him which most of the Alpha carry.

I can’t even sense his wolf.

I am sure my wolf would have guessed if he was an Alpha.

So to end my curiosity and stop the questions which are filling my mind, I asked.

“Who was he?”

Bella looked at me before saying,

“He is Alpha Zander’s second son and will be our new Alpha” .

I was surprised by her words. I opened my mouth to ask something but Lana beat me to it,

“You asked why Alpha Zander's second son ran away right?” she asked. Her face looks serious.

I nodded my head and waited for her answer.

Out of all the things I had imagined as the reason behind him running away, what Lana said was not even on my list.

“Because he is wolfless”.

The ceremony is held in the open field at some distance from pack house.

It takes around seven to ten minutes to reach the place by walk.

The place is still a bit empty other than the workers who are decorating the place and some maids who are arranging the food and drinks on the counters.

Some male omegas are arranging the tables and chairs on the ground for pack members to sit.

A stage has been built in the middle.

Almost all the work has been done. And almost in an hour pack members will start coming and the ceremony will start at six thirty in the evening.

It is 4.20 pm now.

Everything is going good but still I don’t know why I am having a feeling that something bad is about to happen.

I tried to shrug off this feeling but with each passing second, it is increasing.

My wolf is jumping around in restlessness and when I asked her what is wrong she simply told me that even she doesn’t know.

I can’t blame her because even I don’t know why I am feeling restless.

By five forty-five we were done with all the work.

The place looks beautiful. Lights and flowers are surrounding the place and the stage is decorated beautifully.

It is not as grand as Alpha Aiden’s Ceremony but still it is good.

Pack members have started filling the place. They are engaged in conversations while looking around.

Martha came towards us and asked us to go back to pack house and get ready.

I was heading back with others trying to pay attention to what they were talking about but the uneasiness inside me was not letting me focus on anything.

I was so restless that I didn’t see the stone in my way and tripped over it, spraining my ankle in the process.

A painful hiss escaped from my mouth and tears pooled into my eyes.

“Oh my God Sarah, are you okay?” Claire asked me crouching down beside me.

I tried to get up with her help but couldn’t.

“Should I mind link Gray and ask him to come over?” Bella asked holding my arm.

“Don’t, he must be busy with patrolling. I will be fine in few hours.” I said with a forced smile.

Since today is a big occasion, he was given an order to make sure the safety of pack members.

I can’t disturb him.

And my wolf will heal me in few hours. I don’t know why, I heal at slower pace than other wolves but still it is okay.

I love my wolf a lot.

I reached the pack house with Bella and Claire’s help.

They dropped me to my room.

I thanked them and told them to leave once they get ready. I will come once my ankle will get a bit better.

They were hesitant but after some persuasion from me, they agreed.

After around half an hour I was feeling very thirsty.

There was no water in my room so I decided to get some from kitchen.

The pain in my ankle has reduced a bit and now I can walk on my own. But still I was hissing in every few steps.

It seems there is no one in the pack house now. I am sure everyone must have gone to attend the ceremony.

Once I had quenched my thirst, I was heading back to my room. But sounds of someone shouting fell on my ears.

Wondering who can it be, I decided to check.

I walked towards living room and hid behind a pillar when I saw Alpha Zander and his Beta, Jorden standing at some distance.

Alpha Zander looked Angry. Very angry. He was breathing heavily. His hands were balled into fist and jaw was clenched tightly.

My wolf shuddered sensing the amount of anger he was feeling.

Thinking that it will be good if I go back to my room, I took a step, only to get stopped by Alpha Zander's voice.

“How can he run away again. Weren’t you keeping an eye on him huh? The ceremony is about to start and all the members are waiting out there for their new Alpha. What am I supposed to tell them huh?”

“That their new Alpha ran away just before the ceremony”

Shock is the only thing I am feeling right now.

He ran away, but why?

I was confused but I was more confused by the way my heart squeezed in pain upon hearing those words.

Why am I feeling bad about it?

My wolf too is feeling pain for some reason.

Alpha Travis.

Why is he affecting me like this when I don’t even know him.

I was lost in the thoughts when sound of someone's footsteps fell on my ears.

I peeked still hiding behind the piller to find a warrior walking towards Alpha Zander.

He bowed his head in respect.

I flinched in my place when Alpha Zander asked him in a loud yet harsh voice, “what?”

He is really very raged right now

The warrior’s fearful voice fell on my ears causing my body to freeze in it’s place.

My heart stopped beating for a moment. My breath hitched, mind went blank and body began shivering.

Fear gripped my insides when his next words fell on my ears, terrifying me to my core,

“Alpha Mason is here to attend the ceremony” .
