The Unexpected Mate

Chapter 8

Zayden

As soon as I got done showering, I hurried and dried my body and hair, put on my clothes and walk out the door. I see my little mate sitting in the chair I left her in but with a book in hand. I slowly walk over to her and lean on the back of the chair. I notice she is reading my favorite book. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.

“How do you like it so far?” I startled her apparently as she jumped as soon as I asked the question.

“I’m not that far in to it but so far, I like it. I love to read even if I don’t know some of the big words.” She answered looking up to me with a smile.

“That’s good. I’m glad you like it so far. If you ever need help with a word don’t be afraid to ask me okay. I’m here for anything and everything you need.” I said looking her in the eyes.

She nodded as a knock on the door startled us.

“That would be Grey.” I said as I went to open the door. He walked in with a few bags full of food.

“I wasn’t sure what you would like so I brought a variety.” He said to Everleigh as he sat it down on the table by her chair.

Her eyes get huge looking at the bags of food the looks at Grey and thanks him. He bows his head at her before turning to me.

“Everything has been checked like always. I made sure to double everything just in case. I got the dietary information from doc so that’s in place too with what I brought up.”

I nod at him. “Thanks Grey. I appreciate you guys.”

We both turn and look at Everleigh who is opening the bags and boxes of food.

“I will leave you guys to it. Do you need a few days before returning to your Alpha duties?”

“I probably will. Just to make sure she is ok before I do. Plus, I want to talk to her about a few things beforehand.”

“Yes, sir. Everything will be fine. If it’s a life-or-death situation then we will get ahold of you.” He said.

I nodded walking him to the door. He turns to me and mind links me, “By the way I wanted to tell you that your mother is going crazy right now. She hasn’t seen you in a few days and wants to talk to get this mate ceremony rolling with Miss Sanders.”

“Ugh. I will take care of it in a few days. Until then, can you, Dev and Evan make sure no one comes to my room?”

He nods then opens the door and leaves. I lock it behind him. I turn around and walk over to the other chair next to my mate.

“How does it look Everleigh?” I asked noticing she hasn’t started eating yet.

“Everything looks and smells good.” She answered eyeing the hamburger.

“Pick you something to eat baby. It’s for both of us.”

I watch as she picks up a piece of bread and starts nibbling on it while looking at the hamburger. I pick it up and put all the trimmings on it and the BBQ sauce. I reach over and grab the bread from her hand and put the hamburger in its place. Her eyes go big and looks at me.

“This is yours though.” She says in a hushed tone.

“Baby, what’s mine is yours. I don’t mind sharing with you. Take a bite and if you like it eat it.” I said with a smile.

She hesitantly took a small bite and let out a small moan before taking a bigger big. It made me smile. I grabbed the other hamburger, loaded it up with too with BBQ sauce and chowed down myself. As she was finishing her food, she started holding her stomach.

“Are you okay?” I asked worried.

“Yes. I have just never ate that much before. Now I feel like I’m going to explode.” She mumbles.

I chuckle. “I’ve been known to do that before. Especially after training.”

She gave a small laugh. “That was really good. Thank you for sharing.”

“Anything for you.” I said smiling at her. “Would you like desert?” I asked pointing to the cherry pie.

She looked at it, then at me, then back at the pie. “I don’t know if I could fit anymore in my stomach but that looks really good and I’ve never had something like that before.”

I took the small knife from the bag and cut a little section off for her to try it and cut myself a piece.

“This is so good.” She stated once she swallowed it. “Is it ok if I have a little more?”

“Definitely so.” I said cutting her off another small piece. I’m glad she has a little bit bigger appetite than earlier I thought to myself.

Once we were done eating, I put all the empty containers back in the bags and walked over to the door and sat them outside in the hallway. The house service will pick it up later.

“Would you like to watch a movie?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never watched one before.” She stated.

“Ok, well, we will watch a movie then. We will start off with something funny. I know you need it after everything. Go sit down on the bed and I’ll get it started.”

She gets up and goes to sit on the bed while I walk over to the bookcase that has movies on it. I pick out the movie Grown Ups. Funny but still mostly appropriate. I always watch it when I need a good laugh. I put the movie in the player and go to sit on the bed with my back against the headboard while grabbing the tv remote off my side table. I turn it on and we start watching.

About half way through the movie she lays down close to me. I decide to try to pull her closer. I wiggle my arm under her neck and snake it around to her back. I take my other arm and wrap it around her waist and pull her towards me. I have her head on my chest with her body right next to mine. Surprisingly she sighs and shivers but doesn’t move away from me. I place a small kiss on the top of her head before sitting back and sit back to finish the movie.

I must have dozed off at some point because the next thing I know is being woken up by a finger lightly touching my arm.
