Chapter 3

822 Words
I felt heat rising from my body as jealousy began running through me. I could feel the tears beginning to form in my eyes.  I knew our chances of meeting our mates were slim to none. Since the only other werewolves we knew were Sage and her grandmother. It killed me when I heard their howl. Knowing that I would never find my mate. Never find the one that held the other part of my soul who we were bounded to for life. I could feel their love and joy as they howled through the night. All I knew was I needed to get away as fast as possible. I couldn’t be around them anymore. Around my father who I had felt suffocated us and kept us away from anyone. As well my brother who was now oozing with happiness. I began to run and run I could hear my fathers howl behind me and he mind-linked me telling me to come back. I tuned him out. I needed to be numb to everything. I couldn’t’ breathe. I couldn’t take it. I just kept running. I didn’t know where I was going. But I knew one thing I needed to get as far away from everything as possible. I kept running long into the night until I could feel my body collapse from exhaustion. There was a river near by I could hear the stream. I walked a little further until I reached it. Going to lap up some of the water. I looked around not knowing how far I had run or even where I was at. I could hear my father and brothers voices telling me to come home. But I wasn’t ready. I wasn’t ready to face anything. I just couldn’t. That’s when I smelt another wolf near by. I looked and could see the mark of the royal guards. He transformed into his human form. “Rogue . . . you are hereby in the custody of the royal alpha” Panic and fear shot through me. I didn’t know where I was. Or how far away Amos or my father was. My legs were so tired all I wanted to do was sleep. But I knew I couldn’t not now. I needed to run. But how? How was I supposed to run when everything in me feels like it’s going to fall apart. As the guard neared me. A growl erupted from me. I barred my feet into the ground. My wolf, Millie, wasn’t going to go without a fight. Even if I just wanted to surrender. She wasn’t willing to give up. “Don’t make this harder then it has to be. Come with me and no one will get hurt.” But Millie wasn’t going to do that. She launched at the guard sinking her teeth into his arm. A shriek of pain erupted from him. I could hear a growl begin from the back of his throat. I knew he would change soon. This was my chance to get the hell out of there. I was grateful Mille had taken control. We ran as fast as we could. I mind-linked Amos, Sage and my father. “Help me . . .” “Where are you?” Amos linked back “I don’t know. ..” I said. My voice sounded shaky and distant. “We will find you. By your scent. Stay where you are!”  My father said. I could hear a demanding tone coming from him. “I can’t. There’s a royal guard. I will be caught.” I said. “RUN!” They all shouted into my head.. I could smell them in the distance as I began ran faster and faster. But the guard was still near me. And I could smell and feel his anger as he neared. I just knew I had to keep running. I knew I was to tired to fight him off myself. That I would be easily overpowered. “I’m so sorry . . .” I said. “It’s okay Aspen. We just want you safe.” Dad said. With every step I could feel both the exhaustion wearing on myself and Millie. We were so close to my family. I could feel them as well as smell them. I knew that I couldn’t stop now. A growl erupted behind me. As I began to slow down some. I felt a nip at my tail. As I was about to turn around to give the guard a taste of my mind. When I heard three growls coming from the other direction a quarter mile away. They all speed up. A feeling of relief overwhelmed me. But when I turned around the guard was frozen. He wasn’t trying to advance towards us. He looked like he was mind linking the other guards nearby. That’s when I knew he could smell Amos and I. That we were twins. “Freeze. You and your brother are her by under arrest for violating the law of being twins. You will come with me to face death.”
