Prelude
Supernatural creatures existed long before the discovery of any other things in this world. There are ghosts, grim reapers, witches, and even vampires. Ah, vampires. The so-called creatures of the night. Contrary to the belief of humans, vampires are not slaves of the sun, but yes, they got one thing right: vampires are predators and their strong  lust  for blood equates to ruthlessness. It does not matter what, who, where, or even why. When the undead's eyes turn red, you should run. "Witches of the forest! Grant us mercy!" the villagers whimper as the witches watch them—sympathy is evident in their eyes. Like vampires, witches don't just exist on children's book because they are, in fact, real. Witches are the complete opposite of the undead creatures. The former are considered the guardian of nature and living things. Their main purpose in this world is to listen to the cries and pleas of humans, so about a hundred years ago, when the prayers of the people to put an end to vampirism finally reached the pure hearts of the witches, peace prevailed. The witches warned the vampires first—telling them to stop feeding from humans since the blood of an animal would suffice; however, some vampires claim that drinking animal blood is not helping to quench their  thirst.  Animal blood is not as powerful as human blood. The supernatural abilities of vampires decrease rapidly as they suppress themselves from drinking from the jugular vein. They also turn weak—weaker than brainless zombies. Such a strong claim, but people are  dying  without just cause. Vampires are predatory in nature and most of the time, they cannot stop themselves. Once their fangs are out, they will suck someone's blood dry, some witches even claimed that dozens of people die every day because of the incapability of the undead to control. And so the witches didn't have any choice but to take some appropriate actions. Using their magic, they cast a spell on the vampires, to be specific, to the ones who are known to be  rogue. Rogue vampires are those who can't stop drinking human blood. As a punishment, the witches made them a phantasm, meaning; they're like an illusion since these phantasm vampires cannot be seen or felt by any human being. They won't even be able touch anything tangible in this world, similar to a ghost. "I wish I could just be a ghost." Sage, a phantasm, sighed. One hundred years have already passed; however, Sage was, is, and will always hate what the witches in the forest did to him and to this vampire family and friends. Being an illusion in this world sucks. At this point, he’ll just choose to be a ghost. "At least those spirits are having fun; they can scare the hell out of those idiotic mortals." Sage thinks. He hates witches, but Sage despises human beings more. They're the main reason why he became a phantasm in the first place! And blood, God forbids their blood. Sage might be a phantasm, but his thirst for blood still subsists. Huh. There's nothing more frustrating than being able to feel the blood of every human pump through their vein and  not  be able to have a taste. Oh. He is willing to do anything just so he can have a drink, or a taste. Just a  taste. "This isn't funny anymore! I wanna go home! Mommy!" Sage's eyes turn red after hearing that voice. He is sure as hell that it belongs to a little boy. Oh, how he loves to drink children's blood. Sage likes to torture himself, so even though it's impossible for him to get what he really wants; he still followed the sound of the little boy's cry. His eyes turn redder when he finally sees the child. The little boy is plopped down on the ground, crying. His heart is beating so  fast  and so  hard  that it's driving Sage crazy. He is at most three meters away from child, carefully watching him. Well, as much as he wants to attack the kid, he can't. He is wondering, though. Why is this boy alone in the forest? Is he lost? Or...did his parents abandon him? "Sir, can you keep quiet? We're playing hide and seek!" Sage tilts his head to the side when he hears another voice. His brow furrowed at the sight of another child. Confused, Sage raises his brow more. Why are these kids still in the forest? The sun already disappeared. What kind of parents would allow their children to play in the middle of nowhere? But most importantly....why....why is this little girl holding on the hem of Sage's lounge suit? "Please? I want to win this round!" the little girl looks at him with wide, innocent eyes. Sage flinches. He is still processing what is happening. Just...why is this child talking to him? Can she....Is she.... "Hey!" Sage suddenly grabs the wrist of the little girl. The whole situation is slowly hitting him like a wave, and as if to confirm his gut feeling, his eyes widen when he felt  her soft skin. Bloody hell. He can touch her! "Hey, hey. Listen to me!" Sage plops down on the ground. He meets the little girl's eyes. There's a sense of urgency in Sage's voice, but when he asks the little girl a question, his voice comes out low and scared. "C-Can you...see me?" It's funny how he used to scare little girls before. Things really do change since Sage can practically feel his heartbeat. He is afraid. This feels too good to be true! The little girl nods and hums. Her skin still feels so soft against his touch. Sage sighs in relief. This is true. This is f*****g true! He waited for one hundred years! Hell. He looked everywhere just so he can meet another witch who can reverse the spell! A witch who can finally set him  free  from being a phantasm! "Is that your friend?" Sage asks as he points at the little boy who's still crying. "Yes! I don't want him to see me yet!" the little girl pouts, her cheeks are bright red. "I'll help you hide, but you have to help me first. Can you do that for me?" The little girl quickly nods. Sage lets out a deep sigh again. The phantasm brought the little girl behind a tall tree, Sage then holds the child's hand. The moon is unbelievably bright tonight; it looks like the Gods are on his side. "I want you to close your eyes and repeat every word I'm going to say. Do you understand?" the vampire clenches his jaw, he looks so scary like this, and maybe that's the reason why the little girl swallows hard. She closes her eyes after nodding her head. Again, Sage heaves a deep sigh. He also closes his eyes. His hands are intertwined with the girl's small hand. Her hands still feel soft and hot, strange enough, Sage feels at ease. Although the little girl doesn't understand the words leaving Sage's lips, she still repeats every single word. The phantasm is tensed the whole time. He clearly remembers the spell used by Aurora, a powerful witch who cast the phantasm spell on him in the year 1909. Sage remembers how helpless he is while Aurora uses her magic. He can still feel how his skin burned, how tight his heart clenched, and how frightening it was to realize that the love of his life is flashing before his eyes. Margaret was there. One of the witches is also casting a spell on Margaret, the lover of Sage. Both of them are tied up in a tree—feeling hopeless as they stare into the eyes each other, the loud cry of their other vampire friends is agonizing. Sage's eyes turn red. They didn't deserve this. Yes, they are rogue vampires but they just wanted to survive! How can they possibly stop feeding from those mortals? Witches are unfair. Sage doesn't want anything but to rip the heart of these witches! Sage is about to scream, not because of pain but out of frustration. However, he wasn't able to do so for the reason that Margaret smiles at him. "I love you." his lover mouths, the lower part of Margaret's body can’t be seen anymore. It faded already. Sage feels his heart cracked as he tries to force a smile. Margaret is the only one who made that night bearable, but she is gone now. For one hundred years, Sage lived his life as a phantasm alone. He didn't see Margaret. Sage neither felt nor seen the presence of his vampire friends and family. Sometimes, he wonders where they are now, but most of the time, he plans his vengeance. Tonight, with the help of this little girl, Sage will make everyone who hurt him pay. And so when the little girl finally repeats the last word Sage has said, the ground starts to shake. The kid screams because its intensity is too much. She tries to get a hold on Sage's hand, but the vampire shoves it away. The girl falls on the ground. Sage, on the other hand, breathes in. He looks up at the sky. The wind blows harshly and the lighting and thunder make him smile more. It is happening. He is slowly feeling everything again. The faint chirp of the birds becomes louder; he can also already feel the cold and cruel wind on his skin. It lasted for less than a minute. All Sage can hear now is the wail of the little girl. "S-Sir, I'm scared..." the little girl cries. Her round eyes sparkle; howbeit Sage didn't feel anything at all. "Help me please....I wanna go home!" tears keep streaming down the little girl's face. Again, Sage didn't feel anything. If he did, he is sure it is lust. Strong lust for blood. And it is not the little girl's blood that made Sage hungry. It's the blood of the little girl's friend. "E-Ellie!?" the little boy Sage first saw is now in front of him—trying to run towards the little girl. "James! James! James!" the little girl immediately stands up to hug her friend. But the thing is, before the two kids engulf each other into a hug, Sage grabs the hand of the little boy. James screams when he notices the red eyes of Sage. The vampire laughs like a lunatic, his fangs are now out and he didn't waste a single second. Using his left hand, Sage lifts the poor boy and he then attacks James' jugular vein. The little boy struggles to get away from the predator, but the vampire is just so strong. Sage will have his revenge on everyone...on anyone... The now free phantasm didn't stop sucking the life out of the boy. The little girl, on the other hand, can't do anything but  watch. To just watch and scream... "I'm alive again." Sage wipes the blood on his mouth after throwing the dead body of James on the ground. The boy turns completely pale. His eyes are wide open and the wound on his neck made the little girl's stomach twitch. Again, all the little girl can do is watch. She can't even scream now. "I'll see you again some time, little girl." Sage winks before leaving the dead boy and traumatized girl. Oh he will be having so much fun now.
