Chapter 3

Harlem's pov I couldn't explain the kind of feeling I got the moment I touched Kayla's twin sister. The moment they both walked out, I raised my palm to my face and stared at it for a long time as if I were trying to figure out some kind of complex puzzle. Well, whatever it was, I didn't want to ponder about it anymore as I had other things to attend to. I adjusted my go-to shirt, making my way to the throne room before I remembered that my wife had told me to get a maid to attend to her sister. I said heavily before I turned around and made my way to the maid's court. As I got closer to the maid's court, a thought that popped up in my head caused me to giggle. Aside from my father, I can't remember the last time a person sent me on an errand. I guess this is what being in love does to a man, especially a powerful alpha like myself. "Hey there, I need one of you to come to attend to my wife." I let out the moment I got to the court. I ran my eyes over the environment, most of the maids who hadn't noticed my presence were still frolicking around and exchanging gossip with each other until the head maid called them to order. I tried to hide my laughter when I saw the faces of the maids that had been caught the moment they saw me standing before them. I cleared my throat, my head apple bobbing in my throat. I began to kid my head slightly as I approached the maids that had been caught. "So is this what you do with your precious time?" I asked, but I didn't give them any time to respond to the question before I threw another their way. "Your Luna has a visitor, should you not be present to welcome her instead of being here, spreading baseless rumors." "We're sorry, your Highness." They chorused. "Save it... I expected more from grown women like yourselves, but it seems you all derive pleasure in doing it," I stopped myself midway and sighed. "I should punish you all for that!" I said sternly, my voice dripping with spite as I spoke. The only thing I hated apart from rogues was gossip. I detested it so much because of the detriment it could cause to the person in question that was being gossiped about. I was once rumored to have been having s****l relationships with underage wolves, so I could easily find my mate; which was far from the truth. I remembered how I had tried to convince my father that I would never do such things–the things I had to do, the length I had to go through, so I could get the pack to trust that I was worthy of being their next alpha. "Please, your Highness. We're sorry, forgive us, 2r swear by the moon goddess that is going to be the last time." One of the maids pleaded she had already gotten down on her knees and others were following suit. "How am I sure of that?!" I asked sarcastically, looking down at them with no trace of emotion on my face. "Please, your Highness, we promise we will not repeat this." The maid said, and the others concurred, nodding their heads in unison. I sighed heavily and looked up to the sky as if consulting some kind of personality in the sky. "I'm going to let you off with a warning, you silly women, but just know that the next time you're caught gossiping or doing anything else related to that, I promise that I'm going to punish you all myself and ostracize you from this pack," I said and turned away. I knew deep down the punishments I had threatened them with were harsh, but I wasn't bothered by them. If I had caught the people that started the rumor that led me to the trauma I fell into for so many months, I would have punished them far worse. "Do you all understand that?!" I bellowed. "Yes...yes we do, your Highness." "Good." I said, "Now the six of you, get up from the floor and go help your Luan with her visitor," I ordered immediately. They sprang up from the floor and ran out of the court. "And that same warning goes for the rest of you all who think you can just throw baseless gossip around," I said, wagging my finger at them before I turned to make my way out of the court. I continued to the throne room where I was met by a few of the elders of the pack. "Elders!" I exclaimed. "How long have you all been here?!" I had to ask when I noticed the look of discomfort etched across their features. "Over an hour, we sent your guards to you, but it seems you ignored our call." One of the elders spoke up, utterly displeased. "My apologies for now showing up, but none of my guards came to inform me of your presence regardless. I apologize," I uttered genuinely, and took my seat on the throne. "So what brings you all here?" I asked, but the elders didn't let me get all that out of my mouth before they had started to respond. "We are here because of your mate, your Highness. We have harbored this long enough, but it seems we will be unable to do that any further." My face contorted into a frown and I adjusted on my throne. "And what's with my wife?" "Please, your Highness, we would appreciate it if you did not pretend you did not know what was wrong with your mate. We all know that she's worthless and weak, she is unfit to be the Luna of this pack and especially your mate." "What nonsense is this?!" I bellowed, jumping up from my seat. "Did you all come here to insult my wife?!" "Your Highness..." "Enough!" I yelled, holding up my hand. "Leave now, all of you, leave my palace!”
