Chapter 4. A Million Cedis

''Mom I want to be able to buy you the clothes, jewellery, houses and all the luxurious things you want. Not with the company's money but your son-in-law's money.'' Kelvin said persuasively.

''Look, Selina, look at who just graduate from useless to braggart. I'm telling you he has no ability. Only knows how to brag. Dont give him a cent else he will squander our money.'' Grace pointed at Kelvin whiles looking at Selina.

Kelvin saw that the situation was not good and could only use actions to prove his worth. He reached into his pocket and brought out his credit card.

It look old and worn out as it was his father's before he died.

''Mom I'm not lying to you. This is the credit card of my parents before they died. There was two hundred thousand in it. I have been able to increase the amount to nine hundred thousand. It may not be enough to you but that is what I had made after graduating. ''

Grace was speechless as what Kelvin said did prove he had some ability. After giving it some thought she decided to give in. As this would be a perfect opportunity to finally fmdrive him out if he failed to prove his worth.

'' Fine, I give in. Happy? '' Grace said as she raised her hands in submission, '' But let me yell you, we would only invest a million cedis in you. You have till your child is born. You have to increase it by ten times.''

Ten times! Selina was speechless. How can someone 10x a million into ten million in just six months. Even stock traders don't have this kind of ability.

'' Sure thing mom. Thanks for giving me this chance to prove myself.'' Kelvin was truly grateful. Even him he couldn't make it to 10 million he believed he could get close.

'' Yeah, yeah don't thank me yet. '' Grace snorted, '' you have yet to prove you ability. I am not doing this for you but for the baby. I don't want people to say her father was incompetent. ''

Selina was staring at them. She couldn't believe what was happening. Her mom who never listens to anyone, has decided to listen to Kelvin. Even if it was for the baby, it still is an achievement.

Soon everyone left to their respective places leaving Kelvin alone at home to plan what he was going to do once he received the money.

Selina hurriedly sent the money to Kelvin. She felt that Kelvin had changed and was no longer an eyesore. She wanted to give her child the best of the best and didn't want him to suffer. After listening to Kelvin's past and ambitions, she was ready to support him. If he can prove himself. With this thought in mind she buried herself into work.

She was the president of Smith Corporation. A real estate company, that deals in designs, planning and renovations. It was valued around a few hundred million but was just a second-rate company. The real boss of real estate was Visionary Company.

Her father had built it. And was not around all the time. He always left abruptly and would take long before returning. No one knew where he went or when he'll be back. After she graduated, He made her the president, taught her what she knew. Once everything was settled, he left only to return when she was pregnant and insisted she marry the guy.

After solving the issue with Dragonfire Group last night. Everything at the company returned to normal.

At home.

Kelvin just received the money. No one was around, Grace had left to play mahjong with her friends and won't return until dinner.

Kelvin was looking at stocks of companies with potential when a particular company caught his eye.

It was a small startup that manufactured cars for public transport. As a city in the hinterlands, Petronia city often lacked the materials necessary to make its own goods. It always imports from other cities especially manufactured goods. That was when an idea popped in his head.

He decided that he will invest in small startups that manufactured import substitute. Rather than drawing a six month plan he decided to stick to a five year plan.

He took the various companies contact details and decided to make an appointment with them.

His plan was simply invest in the stock market for the next six months, while looking for industries that was likely to explode in potential in the next year. Having 1.9 million in the card he set out to work.

After some weeks,

Grace would anxious as she was having breakfast. This wasn't her usual style.

Selina became curious and asked.

'' Mom why are you so anxious this early morning? ''

'' Its your paternal grandfather, Next two days is his birthday. ''

'' So its not like they cared about us in the first place so why should we care. We broke from them a long time ago.'' Selina replied visibly disgusted by the mention of the names.

'' Its not like that. Usually I would not care but they suddenly contacted me a few days ago and invited me, I mean us, to the ceremony. '' Grace replied.

'' Will you go, mom?''

'' I don't know. I would have asked your father but I can't get through to him.'' Grace was in a dellima.

At this point, Kelvin who was serving the dishes suggested,

''Why don't we go and figure out the reason for their invite. If its to reconcile, they we can and if there is another motive, we might as well leave things as it is.''

'' Mom, Kelvin is right. Lets see what dad's father is up to.''

'' How can you say that he is your grandfather young Lady. He will always be your elder so you have to show him respect. ''

They decided on the gift that was appropriate and the the day they would leave.
