Chapter 5. Happy Birthday

When the day came, they took a train to Liberty city.

Liberty city was the hometown of Selina's father Nathan. Its the original home and base of the Smith family. They were a first rate family who were the true upper class of the family. Their networth were in the billions but they still couldn't compare to the true families in the capital, Vice City.

Today was the patriarch of the Smith family's birthday. As such the big wigs of the city came in their numbers. The house was brightly decorated. The mansion was built in a blend of traditional style with western manors. It was located at Newport, where the wealth stayed.

The back of the mansion faces the beach whiles the front faces a beautiful view of Central park, a beautiful botanical garden of the city.

Kelvin and his family arrived in a Mercedes Benz C250, which was dubbed as the poor man's Benz. The car was rented of course.

At the entrance were several cars parked. The cheapest amongst them was The C250 that Selina and co brought and as such were immediately looked down upon.

Some even thought they were staff. As guest would be in a more expensive ride. This was a sign of respect to the Smith family.

This only goes to show just how influential the Smith's were in Liberty city.

Upon entering, the receptionwould take their gifts and place it gently on the side as they didn't want to anger the guest.

Selina was in a beautiful pale blue gown which highlighted her average yet youthful appearance.

Because she was pregnant her dress was a bit loose fitted as her baby bump was showing.

They found a seat in the middle rim. Whiles making small talk, a voice echoed ;

"Mr. James Smith, ladies and gentlemen. "

"Oh, Mr. Smith you look younger, ''

'' Mr. Smith you are looking exceptional ''

...

As the guest hurried to greet Mr. Smith and curry favour with him, Selina and her mother were seated not knowing what to do.

They couldn't decide whether to greet or to remain seated.

Kelvin place his hand on Selina's palm and gently shook his head.

'' The best we could do is to come here. Have some pride else they might think we are at their Beck and call.''

A young man beside James Smith caught sight of a couple sitting with an elderly woman that looked familiar.

The you man was Charles Smith. The oldest grandson and heir to the Smith's family fortune.

He has been spoilt since young as such lacks ability. His father always tells him to stop moving around with other rich second generation who have no ability but he refuses to listen.

He looked annoyed at the people still sitting as he deemed it disrespectful towards him and his family.

He whispered into his grandfather's ear. James looked into the direction he was pointing at. He saw Grace along side a young couple which he didn't know.He strolled over with the crowd.

When Grace noticed James was coming I. his direction, she was nervous to what to say. As the man is her father-in-law. He had always been strict with the family members.

She muttered up the courage to face them.

Selina noticed her mother's distress and decided to greet them first.

'' Happy birthday grandpa'' Selina said as James had reached their table.

James ignored her and starred at Grace before saying,'' Is this how you raise your children? To be unfilial towards their elders?''

'' No... Its... Its not like that.'' Grace replied nervously as she has always been the filial and kind hearted type of person at home. As such she was easily bullied.

'' Save it! I don't need it'' James rebuked, '' so where is my useless excuse of a son. Is he so scared that he left a woman to do his job?''

Selina was enraged at how someone was talking about her father. But since he was her grandfather she decided to let it pass.

James oblivious to this, continued

'' Grace tell me, is this how you treat your elders and greet them.''

Charles was happy as his grandfather has always been domineering and arrogant a character he had copied down to the smallest detail.

The crowd were mumbling amongst themselves as the were watching the show.

Kelvin was quiet assessing the situation. When he had had enough, he stood between James and Grace.

'' Mr.Smith we were only greeting you. what is the fuss about. You were the one who invited us. Ifvyou are planning to humiliate invited guest then my guess is we all leave.'' Kelvin said.

James saw that some of the guest agreed with the young man infront of him. He made a mental note to deal with him.

Mathew, James's elder son step in to save his dad from losing face.

'' You do know that's not what he meant. Cant you see he is your elder. It was wrong of you to wait for him to approach before greeting him.''

James thank his son for the quick same whiles others nodded in approval.

'' This must be you son-in-law that I've heard about. Whats your name boy?''

'' Kelvin Amissah '' Kelvin replied as he looked Mathew straight in the eye. He wanted them to know, his family was no push over with him around.

'' Nice name'' Mather said with mockery in his tone,'' we have a lot to talk about after dinner. Please enjoy yourself. ''

Mathew then left with his father and son.

The banquet started soon after. Ruth, daughter of Franklin Smith, James's son son, came up to Selina to introduce herself. She was quite the charm. Not your usual arrogant rich second generation.

She came over to introduce herself as a collage student who wanted majored in Finance and would. She wanted some advice about school and how running a company works as she heard Selina was the CEO of a big company.

Selina was more than happy to have someone who she could she life experience with.
