The Fall
"Yamie!" he yelled to stop her but it was too late.
The cold wind embracing as gravity pulls her to the ground below. She knew that once she fall, the percentage of her to survive from this 27'th tall building is 0.1.
She'll die.
"But it was better than to continue living like a walking corpse," she thought, closing her eyes and submitting her soul to the death reaper if ever they exist. Even so, she knew she'll only end up to one certain destination...
... the world of the dead.
"Can I share a drink with you?"
Yumie turned over to her side where the man's voice came from. Immediately recognising it as one of her colleagues in work, she give him a smile.
"Why not? It's not like we don't know each other," she raised her glass as to clunk it with him. In fact, she really don't do this. Talking or sharing a drink with someone she aren't close with. Especially men. Just that this time is an exception. She don't want others to see her as an arrogant woman just because she achieved a great breakthrough. Though deep inside, she indeed felt proud of herself. Who wouldn't be right?
"Yes. It's not like we don't know each other." That made her stare at the man's face again. She sense something odd in his voice plus his stare that doesn't leave her since he approached. That made her a bit uncomfortable.
"Excuse me?" she asked. Brows furrowed.
But instead of answering her, the man diverted his gaze to the stage where a big banner was hanged. It read, "Congratulations Yammira Cuevas! Bearer of the world's hope."
She noticed the man smirk on it. This party was held exclusively for her so she's the spotlight tonight. Everyone was either praising her or envying her. Not that she cared.
"You really are a great woman, Yammira," the man suddenly told her, now staring at her eye. That made her shudder. His eyes were too intense when he mentioned her name. Like as if...
"T-thank you,"she stuttered, looking away. Who was this man? In the past two years, she had been too drowned in her work that even if she saw her colleagues, neither of them was known by her. For her, familiarity was much more important than knowing their names.
The orchestra playing an upbeat song while ago turns out playing a sweet melody that she noticed only by now. Suddenly, her heart raced when the man beside her walked in front, blocking what she was watching.
"Is he going to ask me for a dance?!" she thought. That made her panicked inside but then, instead of offering his hand the man gave her a folded magazine.
"T-that-"
"My personally written journal," said the man before her. He even smiled showing his white perfect set of teeth when he noticed her anxious face. "I forgot to tell, I'm also a journalist. I wrote an article about you."
She then nooded her head, mindlessly with the embarrassment lingering within her. It is rare for her to be shy in front of others but she don't know why she's feeling this way. Her eyes looked at the paper he's handling her.
" Thank you then, "she smiled but it doesn't reached her eyes as she took the magazine. It is opened in a page.
Smilling brightly , the man turned his back and gone to a table not much away from hers.
" Revy! You should have asked her a picture! "she even heard the man's friend teasing him.
" So his name is Revy? "Her lips pursed forming a thin line. Where did she heard it before?
Surprised, she immediately looked down at the magazine when Revy glanced at her direction. Caught her staring at them. She noticed the grin in his lips and for a moment, she agreed to herself that this man was handsome.
A loud enough chuckle from a familiar tone made her realised her stupidity and again, she blushed finding out that the magazine she pretended to read was upturned. And Revy saw it.
"Why am I acting this way?!" she scolded herself as she seated back to her chair. Composing herself like the usual thing she does. Blushing like a teenager for her wasn't elegant. And she don't want not to be one.
Her eyes again setted on the orchestra playing as some of the attendees of the party held by the company she's working on for her were dancing in couple. On the dance floor, she saw her friend Sheena still enjoying a dance with her boyfriend who is also their work mate."Looks like I'll be lonely tonight," she claimed, though grinning. After some thought, she realised that a place where you are the spotlight were tiring. Every now and then, people came greeting and praising her like a god but who knows? Maybe deep within, they're cursing her or swearing to her. Thus, it's still useless.
She sighed and searched for something to do but with drinking and reading the journal given by Revy, the former was better. Still, she took a sip of wine before starting to read it. The bitter sweet taste of it spread through her tongue, giving her a full contentment.
"ZNW Daily News" That's what is written on the top most of the paper. She searched for the article Revy had told her about but she finds none.
"Where must be it?" Repeatedly scanning the whole journal, she gave up dropping it on the table. Frustrated, thinking she was deceived. However, when she looked at it again, something caught her eyes. She immediately took it back and rubbed her eyes to make sure she didn't made a mistake.
"WHOLE CLASS OF ENGINEERING STUDENT OF SAMARA UNIVERSITY, GONE MISSING!"
The class was reported to went to field trip as to celebrate the championship of the class basketball representative in the recent school fest on Friday, October 13,2020. However on the next day when they are expected to come back from the trip, no one came home....no single soul was found... On the police report, it isn't the first case of missing people this year but many had been reported as....
Yamie caught her breath that she held the whole time she read the passage. Such thing is too vicious! If it really was an abduction case then, she's sure. There's a big mystery behind it.
"You already met him huh?" Immediately, her attention was grabbed by the woman who sitted casually on the seat beside her.She noticed that her cheeks were pink as well as her grinning lips that somewhat turned swollen a bit.Yamie did not need to ask for what happened.
" Him? Who?" she asked her.
Sheena giggled like as if tickled by a feather on the ear. "Revy Salvador! The one who had crush on you for the past two years!"
Yamie's eyes rounded as she jumped up her feet making her chair pushed back and hit a woman passing by.
"Sorry. I'm sorry," she said instantly, embarrassed. Thankfully the woman seems nice who just smiled and left.
"Can't believe?" she heard Sheena said who was drinking a wine now.
Sitting back to her seat, she looked at her friend intently. "That one?"
"Yes. That one."
"But-"
"He's handsome isn't it?" Sheena grinned that halted her. For a moment she pretended to think but actually she already agreed instantly.
"You're blushing !" blurted Sheena that alarmed her, covering both cheeks.
"I am not!" she defended but only made her friend laughed louder that made her nervous. What if someone hear it?Or what if Revy does?
Last year, many were recruited by the company they're working. And one time, someone asked for her help . Of course she agreed considering that it's about human brain anatomy which interest her a lot . Yet since then, that someone she helped had been rumored having affection to her. Though, ironically she didn't even remember whether she helped a boy or a girl!
Who knows that it was that Revy Salvador she just met?!
She glanced over her shoulder and searched his table. Immediately, she spotted him on a serious expression discussing something with his friend. With that face, she can't help but nod.
"Yes. He's indeed handsome."
It had been several days passed since the party but ever since, Yamie never had days to rest. She felt anxious. Scared. She thought that she already overcome her fear of the dark but with all that happened these days, even the slightest darkness spooked her.
"Are you alright?" asked Sheena. Caressing her back to tell she's not alone.
She nodded. "Yes.Don't worry," though she said that more to herself than her friend. She really isn't alright but also don't want to bother her friend anymore.
Sheena had accompanied her in the past couple of days when strange things keep happening on her apartment. If only she can just stay in her office all day. Yet now, she can't just disobey the orders of her superior to rest first to prepare for the implementation of the project she created. Not only in her house but everywhere, something's off.
If not the feeling of being followed, a hooded guy would suddenly bumped into her and walk away like nothing happened. In her house, at first she only noticed her windows opened even if she remembered closing it. Yet as the days passed, someone will knock on the door at midnight and when she opens it, no one was there.
Cards on a bundle of red roses with a drawing of a snake also kept being placed on her bedside table while asleep and in the morning, it's what she first kept seeing. And the worst which happened two days ago was when she was changing clothes. A shadow suddenly appeared out of no where from her house like as if peeking at her. So she shouted in ask for help and with being scared. Police then investigated but no traces were found.
So thus, Sheena decided to live with her for the mean time. However, this day she was called from the office and needed her immediate presence.
She'll be alone again.
"Don't worry much. My brother will come to check on you for me.You'll be fine," Sheena held her hand and pinch it lightly before getting up from the couch. She grabbed her bag and hang it on her shoulder.
Instead of answering, Yamie just nodded.
She watched her back walking towards the door yet, it stopped half way. Glancing over at her.
"Why?" Yamie asked. Wondering.
She noticed some hesitation in her friend's eyes as well as something she can't recognise. "Take care, Yammira." she softly said then she was gone.
Left alone was the woman wondering on those simple words.
"Something's off..." she whispered remembering Sheena's face. Her instinct can't be wrong! It was always been right ever since. But what's off? Will something happen tonight?
The sound of the ticking clock drowned the silence within her apartment. But why does she felt more scared?
There was a sudden knock that made her jumped in surprise. For a moment, she felt nervous with it but remembered what Sheena said.
"My brother will come to check on you for me.,"
"Maybe it was her brother," she thought, deciding to open it. Coming out from her room, she passed through the living area that all reflected modernism. Even the sofa can be turned to a bed if commanded at. Or the lights can turn themselves off if they sense no human around.
Spinning the doorknob, the door flung open and the man stood before it made her jaw dropped.
"Revy?" she confusedly asked.
"You know my name,"he grinned at her. His face was still the handsome one she met on the party days ago yet, something seems different on him. today.
" Oum... Sheena told me, "she retorted calmly though her hand firmly hold the still half closed door just incase.
Revy smirked as he scratched his nose. His eyes moved to her hand on the door."Oh?My sister..."
"Your what?!"
Yamie bit her lip with her sudden outburst when he chuckled under his breath because of it. She can't believe it! Sheena never told her.
"My sister was Sheena,"he explained staring at her that made her very uncomfortable. Even her heart beats could be heard now.
" But you have different last names. " Sheena was a Gariles while Revy was Salvador so there's no way they can be siblings. Unless...
"She's my half sister,"he said what's already in her mind.
Though the fact that he's her friend's brother didn't assure her. Revy don't look like the one who could do something evil but she still felt wary towards him. Or any other man. Maybe, because of what had happened the last days or because something was different in him. Either way, it's still disrespectful for her to drove him away right?
"Can I come in?"
Immediately gone back to her senses, Yamie nodded with hot cheeks. She somehow felt embarrassed realizing how long she made him stood outside.
"Y-yes! Come in." She now then losen her grip on the door but when she was about to open it, something on Revy halted her.
"Wait!" she yelled mindlessly that surprised the man.
But Yamie can't care for more. Intently, she stare at the tattoo on his left arm below the sleeves, making sure she isn't only imagining things or being paranoid.
The snake tattoo...
She hoped it was just a mere mistake but still, she never made one. With horror in the eye, she looked up at Revy who seemed to know already what she discovered.
The tattoo in his arm was the snake imprinted on every card on the roses sent to her! He was it!
"Know it already?" he asked, though obviously he's just mocking her. Like as if what he did was something to be proud of.
But how can it be? Sheena... did she already knew it?
She tried remembering before Sheena left not even half an hour ago. The hesitation in her eyes. And yes! There was pity also in it.She even said, "Take care, Yammira."
She already knew it!
Yamie, panicked and scared, rushed to close the door but everything was already too late. Fate had been already setted.
Revy who were faster than her abruptly stopped the door from closing and chased her as she ran.
" Help! Help!" she yelled, though she knew it was useless. Her condominium was soundproof! No one will ever know what will happen tonight.
His loud chuckle echoed inside the living room giving her creeps deep within her bone. How stupid she was not to ran outside instead! Now, she's trapped in here.
She entered her room and locked it. Holding the doorknob to make sure it won't open even if she knew it won't. No. If Revy was her stalker, then it won't be hard for him to open this door. He even could enter her house without any traces many times before !
"You can't run away from me anymore, love! You know you can't!" she heard him yelled within the other side. His voice seemed not to owned by him anymore.
Shaking. Trembling. Sweat formed on her forehead though inside her, it felt so cold. She was so scared! Too scared as Revy's crazy laugh behind the door evokes the fear burried inside her. Her past already forgotten.
Warm salty tears fell from her eyes. Her lips simultaneously trembled as she prayed. Hoping that someone would save her from this.
Yet, a loud bang on the door crashed all her hope left. A hole was created on it displaying the man she wished to never met.
" Go away!" she shouted as Revy's sinister eyes smiled at her through the hole. Too frightened, she fell on her knees and slumped on the cold floor. His loud crazy laugh made her more scared than ever.
"Help! Help me!" she yelled but it was no hope. Thinking late of calling someone, she seek for her phone but remembered that she left it on the couch at the living room.
She cursed inside her.
A loud bang was heard again and in that time, the door knob was destroyed. Carefully, not letting her eyes left the door as it slowly opened her heart stopped. Her breathing was too deep. The creaking sound of the door was her most hated and feared sound that time and promised that forever it will be.Even her tears didn't dare to flow anymore.
"Yammira..." hissed a man's voice who stood now before her. Slowly, sacred but needed to, she looked at him from toe to head. Though it paused on his arms where the tattoo was imbeded. It was on the shape of a heart but the snake's head raised from the point of it to the center.
Her teary eyes met his. For a moment, Revy's eyes soften seeing her tears. Turning from the crazy to innocent face he attempted to walked near her but stopped when she slide back. The coldness from the floor was freezing but the coldness inside was killing her. Her eyes searched for something to use to fight with this crazy man.
"You don't know how long I've been in love with you, Yammira," he confessed in a very soft and romantic voice. Yet, the mention of her name coming from him made all her body hair rose up. How could this man talk about something he have no idea at all?
Revy looked down. Staring at his shoes as his messy hair covered his eyes. "Since the day you've help me, I already swear that I would only many no one but you.Only you could own me and only me..." his sharp black eyes moved to meet hers that made her held her breath. "... could owm you."
Yamie wanted to spit in too much disgust. She shook her head as she slowly stood up.Not letting him to be alarmed." No. No Revy. You can only own me when I'm dead!" She ran towards the study table a meter away to get the vase which she had spotted when he was busy talking.
Yet, one inch. Only an inch and she would be able to have something to save herself but life's too cruel. When you almost grabbed your hope, life then took it before you do.
"Ahhh!" she screamed in pain as Revy pulled her hair. Tears flowed her eyes with the pain that was brought from the hair scalp almost being separated from her head . Yet, what was more unbearable was when he threw her on the bed.
Immediately going on top of her.
" No!" was her only scream. Resisting. Trying to push away the demon who wants to devour her but she's too weak.
Yes. She's too weak.
"No! Please!Please..." but was futile. Neither he stopped, nor slowed down.
Would she really just accept that she's weak?
"I've long waited for this, Yammira. Too long..."he whispered on her ear.
" No! You're not weak! "replied some part of her brain and with that, a hope sprang inside her.
" I could be dead. But not to live the kind of life I'll suffer after this man succeeded in his evilness, "she thought.
Her eyes spotted a medium sized vase on her bedside table with still a withered peonies she forgot to replace. Ironically, the vase was even painted with a black snake.
She felt all the disgust and fear and all the emotions as his brazen lips brushed over her neck. With all her might left, she managed to reached the vase on the table. And because Revy was too distracted, he didn't noticed her. Thus she grabbed the opportunity and hit his head with the vase.
Blood flows from it though he seemed too stunned to react from the pain. Yamie ran not to the door but to the opened window. Below was the bustling city who will never know what tragedy she had experience this night.
"Yammira! No!" Revy shouted as he ran towards her though halted when she stepped her left foot on the window sill. It was wide enough to made her fall iin just one mistake.
He stepped back, shaking his head to her. Eyes full of fear but not regret. Either way, Yamie did not care at all.
"You killed me," she firmly said full of anger, pain and disgust. It doesn't suit her angel-like face paired with her white night dress that flowed with the wind.
"N-no. N-no...." he whispered. More like convincing himself more.
Yamie close her eyes. She already made up her mind.Standing on the windowsill, she jumped on the air with tears on her eyes.
"Yamie! No!" Revy yelled to stop her but it was too late.
The cold wind embraced her as gravity pulls her to the ground below. She knew that once she fall, the percentage of her to survive from this 27'th tall building is 0.1.
She'll die.
"But it was better than to continue living corpse." she thought closing her eyes and submitting her soul to the death reaper if ever they exist. Even so, she knew she'll only end up to one certain destination... the world of the dead.
"Who is she?I've never seen her before."
"Is she dead?"
"Shh! She's only sleeping."
"She's so beautiful..."
"Who was those voices? "Yammira thought. Isn't she dead? Her eyes felt so heavy yet, she still chose to see who those were. Blinking several times, until her sight was clear, she wandered her eyes around. And the first thing she saw was...
"A vampire?!"
