"She was too passionate. Too kind. Too loving. Too fine a woman for a man like you." -Unknown.
2nd February 2017.
The day I did something I would never even have thought I would do EVER in my entire seventeen years of living.
I take a deep breath, taking a sip from my coke, glancing at the guy reading a book before I look back at the smirking Alexis, wondering why I'm agreeing to this.
You don't understand what's happening? Well, let me go back to a few minutes ago.
"I'm so hungry," Alexis whines, grabbing her growling stomach. We had just come back from buying the shoes for her. Thankfully, it only took half an hour and we were done.
"Well, I still have almost an hour left until I have to get to work," I inform her, glancing at the clock on my phone screen. Her eyes lit up gleefully, she grabs my hand and drags me towards the food court.
We enter KFC, it was crowded, a lot of teenagers and some adults were there eating their food. You would think it would be almost empty given it was a Tuesday. We ordered our food and eat outside the restaurant at one of the seats.
As we were sitting, Alexis looks behind me, her eyes lighting up, "hot guy at 6 o'clock." I quirk an eyebrow at her and quickly turned behind me. A tall guy with dirty blonde hair was taking a seat on one of the chairs, he had his phone on his hand, typing rapidly with a handsome grin on his face.
"Yeah he's cute," I agree with a smile, turning back to my chicken wings. I take a bite before Alexis gives me a mischievous smile. "I'm going to ask him for his number," she announces, making me choke on my chicken wing.
"W-what? Well, that's a bold move," I mutter, taking a sip from my coke, trying to make my poor throat feel better. She shrugs in reply, checking out her reflection on the compact mirror, "well it's almost valentines and I don't have a date yet." She gives me a half smile, shutting her compact mirror when she was satisfied with what she saw.
She stands up from her seat, straightens herself and walks towards the guy. I saw her talking him, to which he replies with a nod and a smile, his eyes visibly checking her out. She takes a seat opposite him, her back facing me. I decided to stop stalking them and turned back towards my food.
A few minutes later she shows up, grinning from ear to ear, waving her phone on my face, "I got his number!" She stages whispers. I return her grin, "who wouldn't hand you their number?"
She smirks at this, "duh."
My eyes catch a guy sitting in a table in front of us, he was reading a novel called 'The Millionaire Next Door', I've seen that book at some of the bookstores. I mean, it's not my type of books but I was just shocked to see a guy who looks no older than twenty read books, especially, such books. And specifically with the way he looks, he was cute, no scratch that, hot even. His hands were built up showing he spends his share time at the gym, his skin was tanned, even if it was just the beginning of February, his dark hair cut short but still looked good with the frame of his face, his dark eyes were zeroed out on the book as he read, his eyebrows furrowed, absentmindedly bringing his glass up towards his lips, taking a sip from his drink.
"What are you looking at?" Alexis asks me, making me turn my attention back to her, my cheeks flaming when I realize she just caught me checking out the guy. She turns back and she notices him, a mischievous smile forming on her lips.
I shake my head at her, already knowing what she was going to say. "No no no no," I tell her, shaking my head. She nods her head, her smile turning into a full-on grin.
"I dare you to approach him and get his number," she announces her bad idea. I swallow my piece of chicken wing forcefully as I shake my head. "Not gonna happen."
"Come on!" She pouts, putting her phone down on the table. "It's almost valentines day and we both know you don't have a date!"
"I've never had a valentines date before, it's not like I'm gonna die," I tell her, rolling my eyes.
"Just try something new for once! Come on live a little," she insists, drinking her lemonade. I was about to protest again when a voice spoke inside my head.
The things that give you an adrenaline rush create the best memories.
I sigh, actually pondering about that. Stupid Alec with his stupid scary fun way of living!
And here I was, constantly looking at Alexis and back at the guy.
"It is going to be so embarrassing if he doesn't actually give me his number," I mutter under my breath. I take a small sip from my drink before standing up. I adjust my glasses up my nose and start walking towards him. Let me tell you one thing. I was trembling. A lot.
As I was walking towards him, in a cool way, might I add. I trip and fall just when I reach his table, my face planted on the floor.
"Ugh!" I groan, trying to adjust my eyes to the blurry surrounding. I think I broke my glasses.
"Are you okay?" A manly voice asks I look up to stare at the guy who was reading the book, only this time, I can only see him in a blur. He still looks cute blurry. Not right now, Summer. Focus.
"Ugh, I don't think so," I reply him, holding my head as I tried to stand up. He immediately grabs my hand, helping me up. I look at him with a smile, "thanks."
Even though my vision was blurry, I could still feel the piercing gaze he was giving me. "You have gorgeous eyes," he compliments me, earning a blush from me.
"U-um, t-thanks," I start stammering. I mentally slap myself. I'm scaring him away! "Do you happen to know where my glasses are at? I can barely see anything." Yup, my numbers were that big.
"Yeah, here you go," he tells me, handing me my glasses. I wear them and I take a closer look at the guy. His handsome face was scrunched up with worry, his hand still holding my arm.
"T-thanks," I repeat, giving him a small smile. Well, I'm not going to ask him for his number now that I've embarrassed myself, that's for sure.
"What's your name?" He asks me, taking me by shock. I blink up at him before answering him. "Summer."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Gavin," he tells me, offering his hand to me. I shake his hand awkwardly, not used to this formal way of talking.
A few talks later, I had his number and I was walking towards Alexis with a huge grin on my face. I didn't even have to ask him for it! I should fall near hot guys more often.
"Okay, that falling thing was a great idea!" Alexis says excitedly when I reach our table. I gave her a look, "it wasn't on purpose."
"Who cares! It totally worked!" She exclaims, a wide grin forming on her face. I roll my eyes playfully at her, before taking a sip from my drink.
"I gotta go, work starts in fifteen minutes," I inform her, standing up so I could leave. She gives me a wave, "I'll see you soon tomorrow then, I'm still trying to finish this salad."
I look at my tray which had two pieces of chicken wing left. I don't get how I can never finish my food. With a sigh, I grab the box and carry it with me, I might get hungry later. I can't waste food. With that thought in mind, I walk over to the subway station and make my way to the café.
"There's our new waitress!" Josh grins from ear to ear as soon as I enter the café. I return his smile, waving a little as I felt my cheeks heat up. Josh was right, there were a lot of people at this time, and all their attention was on me as soon as Josh shouted at me.
"Way to make a commotion," I mutter sarcastically when I reach the counter. There was another girl my age, wearing a piece of clothing over her head, hiding her hair. She was beautiful, her olive skin tone radiating, she gives me a friendly smile as soon as our eyes meet, making me automatically smile back.
His grin not fading he gestures his hand towards the pretty girl with the scarf, "this is Salma, she'll be working with you, she's our new barista."
"Salma, this is our new waitress, Summer," Josh says to Salma, gesturing his hand towards me now. She gives me a huge grin, showing me her pearly white teeth, "nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too."
"You can come to my new office so we could discuss your payment and whatnots," Josh says, putting an emphasis on the new office.
"Office?"
"Yes! Dad said my ideas are great and I'm the new human resource manager! Isn't that great?" He answers almost immediately. I give him a huge smile in reply, "that's awesome!"
He takes me inside the counter toward a door on the right. His office was small, but it was neat with a mahogany desk towards the left corner, files were places neatly and there was a small table lamp at the side of the desk. There were two chairs seating opposite either side of the desk. Josh seats at the other end while I sit in front of him.
"So about your payment, we were thinking we could offer you 100 dollars a week? If that's okay with you," he says, his tone suddenly changing. It sounds more formal, as he looks at some file.
I perk up at this, "okay? More than okay! Thank you." His calm demeanor changes as he chuckles at me,"no need to thank me. If you're okay with this then you should sign here and here." He shows me where I should sign on the file he was reading and when we were done he gives me his hand.
"I hope you do your job well, miss Moore."
