CHAPTER 1
Death, Death is the unholy specter that everyone fears, I am this figure. I have hunted and killed soulless, heartless, murderers called rouge vampires. These creatures are what have lurked in the shadows for years, or that was until I went out for blood. Years ago, when I was only four, my mother, Caerol, and I went for a walk, sadly this walk turned into a man pointing a g*n at my mother, his name is White Phantom.
“Caerol, you will join us along with your precious daughter.” Said White Phantom with a glimmer of hate in his eyes.
With these words he smiled evilly, but my mother told him she’d rather die than become rouge, a shot went off and before I knew it my mother was in my arms, dying. Before Phantom vanished he said he’ll wait till I grow stronger so he could kill me slowly and painfully. My mother died right there in my arms.
Today I have a sense that tells me when a rouge is near, it is a curse, my body sends shivers from light to horrible freezing cold shuddering. This helped me through the years, but so has S.A.R.A.H. who is a Super Amazing Radiation-free Automatic House that can do anything a super computer can do with mechanical arms and three dimensional holograms you could actually touch. S.A.R.A.H. was my real first invention that didn’t backfire, but she is also my friend whom I trust with everything I know. The only other person I have left is my dad, and he has been broken and scarred since mom died. I will hunt, kill, m**m, t*****e and poison every rouge until I find Phantom and have his head hanging on my wall so my mother’s soul may finally get some rest.
Welcome to my nightmare. Welcome to my life. Welcome to my world of chaos.
It was a rough thirteen years since mom died and I can say I am not too happy to be going to school at all. Not even a bit.
“Dad, why do I HAVE to go? A rouge could attack me or-“I started to say, but dad cut me off.
“Rose Marie Swarte, no one is going to attack you in a crowd and it would be good to refresh after what happened with He- who- will –not- be- named.” Dad is mentioning an old relationship, where the guy kind of got put in the emergency room by me.
“Dad, Nicoli was a LOOOOOONG time ago, besides he deserved it.” I said looking at him with the look I made up.
“Yea, I do admit he did deserve it, no doubt,” Dad smiled at this, “But not in a full body cast for almost two months.” I smirked and then my smirk dropped when we arrived at the school. Cobbs High School, home of the flying cobs. What did that even mean?! I’m glad that we are in Colorado though, it’s cold and warm so it’s alright
“Alright, have a good day Rose.” Dad said as I got out of the car to head to the office to get my schedule.
“Bye dad.” I said, and then headed toward the ominous building. “I’m probably going to get into trouble” I muttered to myself when my dad left.
“Excuse me,” I said to the desk clerk, who looked up and smiled at me, “I’m Rose and I am here to get my schedule for school.”
The desk clerk nodded and handed my schedule to me. I crossed out the Linda part of my name and added an ‘e’ to the end of the first part of my name, because I didn’t like my full name, and headed for home room. There was a still silence as I walked in, I handed my teacher my schedule and he introduced me to class.
“Students, this is Rose and she is just starting at our school. Be nice and if she needs any help, feel free to help her out.” Mr. Gorgon said to the class, I’m lucky he didn’t pronounce my full name. Mr. Gorgon looked at the seating chart and told me where I was to be seated
“You are seated next to…. Oliver, raise your hand Oliver! Ah, there he is, go right ahead.” Mr. Gorgon said, pointing out the student I was next to.
I didn’t know who Oliver was, let alone if he would bug me about dates or my number, to my surprise, he did neither, but he did ask me if I could help him with some homework trouble. I wonder what this guy is planning. The rest of my classes went by and I am glad it is finally lunch time, lunch time is the best time of my schedule, I sat alone; as usual and Oliver sat across from me with a certain look in his deep eyes.
“Hey.” Oliver said with a smile.
“Hi.” I said awkwardly.
“I want to thank you for wanting to help me, even though you barely know me.” Oliver said with a slight laugh in his voice.
“No problem, I don’t mind.” I said.
Oliver and I sat and talked about random things like: what we wanted to do after senior year, who were the best and worst teachers in our own opinion and so on. It was awkward and uncomfortable at the same time, but after a while I relaxed and told Oliver my occupations: not a certain rouge vampire hunting occupation, but what I did if I had nothing else better to do.
“Do you read?” Oliver asked.
“I love to read, it is the best thing in my day I have to look forward to.” I said with too much enthusiasm. Why did I do that? I should be a lot calmer than what I am now
“Same here, mostly mysteries and fiction, I am not too big on most types of books.” Oliver replied.
“Mysteries are good, but I also like to read,” I said, but shivered lightly, “about the unknown, myths and what not.”
“Are you cold?” Oliver asked, obviously noticing my shiver.
“Yea, I am sitting under the vent.” I said and pointed toward the vent on the ceiling, even though it was a rouge sensor going off.
“Oh, want to switch?” Oliver asked, he was so nice and those eyes. Wait, what am I thinking!? I should not like him, I just met him and I swore off men since I put my ex in the hospital.
“Sure.” I said and switched places with him.
After school, I headed home and waited.
Later that day it looked like rain was coming but the weather said it wasn’t, Oliver should be here in a few minutes. I sighed and worked on some homework while I was waiting for Oliver.
“Need any help Rose?” S.A.R.A.H. asked with no complications in her voice, she should know I hardly ever ask for her help, unless it was an absolute emergency or I needed to double check my work.
“No thank you S.A.R.A.H., I’m good.” I said, looking back at the pre- calculus sheet I was working on, then I heard a knock at the door.
“It’s a boy and he says you invited him, should I tell him to go?” S.A.R.A.H. asked, I knew she was mentioning Oliver.
“No, its ok let him in.” I said.
“Rose?” Oliver said, standing on the landing looking confused, poor boy.
“Downstairs! I’m in my room.” I shouted back at him. Oliver came in with two projects and one bit of homework.
“Hey, I brought my work,” Oliver said and put down his backpack, “And what is up with the voice of the house?”
“It’s S.A.R.AH; she is a great source of a security that can make an awesome cake.” I said, grabbing my calculus book and opening to where the problem is, “Let’s get started.” I said. It took only one hour and forty minutes to get our stuff done.
“That was the fastest time I have ever gotten work done.” Oliver said with a smile. Why was it again I liked this guy? I don’t know.
“With me it only takes a few minutes to do things, which is why I have a lot more free time.” I said with a slight smile. I wondered who Oliver was, because I knew he was not human and not the type of normal vampire to like a human and I think there is more to what I can physically see in his face.
The rest of the week went by with boys trying, with no avail, to try to get me to date them. It was funny how every guy was either sending me love letters, notes with yeses or no’s or numbers or the guys themselves asking me directly and each of these trivial questions had one common answer: No. I won’t be involved until I complete my quest to rid the Earth of White Phantom. However, Oliver came up to me and asked the simplest question:
“Would you like to study again?” It was probably a date question, but his eyes were serious so I replied.
“Yes.” I said with some caution.
Oliver and I walked home all week and I knew he lived directly next to me, so I would have no trouble finding where he lived.
“So, come on over whenever and I’ll introduce you to my family.” Oliver said and waved at me. What was Oliver’s family like anyhow?
“Ok I’ll be over in five, just gimme a minute to grab a few things.” I said and then went into the house to grab my scrap paper and calculator. I headed over to Oliver’s house with my supplies and knocked.
“Give me just a minute.” A voice rang from inside the house. The door opened to reveal a well dressed woman with a pearl white smile.
“You must be Rose, Come right in. OLIVER, YOUR FRIEND IS HERE!” The woman said.
“Are you Oliver’s mom?” I asked, eyeing the food on the table.
“Yes, my name is Demiritrana, or Demiri for short.” Said Demiritrana as I shook her hand. Definitely not human. Then, a girl appeared behind me and smiled. I wasn’t spooked, just surprised.
“Hi, I’m Oliver’s older sister, Trintina,” Said Trintina, extending a hand to greet me.
“Hi, I’m Rose.” I said shaking Trintina’s hand.
“The others are out, Oliver has five siblings: Me, Strinia, Frengan, Louipla, and Demano. We are not really… ordinary,” That was for sure, “but we are still a family.” Trintina said and then smiled. Oliver came up the stairs with a smile, like he always did.
“Hey Rose! I see you have met my mother and my oldest sister, who is also the most annoying because of her gift to move objects with her mind.” Oliver said and I heard a voice say:
“I HEARD THAT OLIVER!” It was Trintina; this family was weird, extremely weird.
