Chapter 6

“I was in my first relationship after mom died and I felt happy to be doing something that didn’t involve rouge killing. I found Nicoli and he treated me like I was normal, like you do but you do it better, and I always thought he understood, but I was wrong. After I kept going out on nights, Nicoli was getting worried and told me to tell him what I was doing and that he would understand….” I said, tearing up, “I told him what I did, killing rouges because of Phantom, so Nicoli just ran off to the park and I decided to follow him. I found him force kissing a girl I knew fairly well and I sort of put him in a full body cast for almost two months by beating him to a pulp, I asked the girl if she was alright then I told Nicoli he must NEVER come near me or my family again.” I finished, almost crying.     “Rose, you know I would never ever do that to you ever.” Oliver said and put a hand on my shoulder.     “Because, you understand me when HE never d-did.” I stuttered at him, nearing tears.     “I- I love you Rose, I love your dreams, I love your personality, I just love who you are and I will never hurt you like he did.” Oliver said and hugged me, while I hugged him.     “I know, I love the way you understand and care for me too.” I said and we just embraced in my room for quite a while.     “Rose have you seen my-“Dad started, but stopped to cry when he saw me and Oliver hugging.     “Rose, you and him are a couple?” Dad said, coming over to hug me.     “We are dad, Oliver understands me and he won’t do anything to hurt me.” I said, hugging dad back. “I am sooooooo happy right now; we are going out to eat.” Dad said and I was shocked, because dad never wanted to go out to eat. Dad never wanted to go out, even when mom was alive, so this was a huge step for everyone.     Oliver held my hand and ordered a steak, like my dad did, and I ordered whatever looked good: A really big hamburger. Both Oliver and dad were surprised that I ordered something so big, even the waitress was shocked. Sure I have a small body, but I have a big appetite.     We all ate and laughed at my dad’s older jokes, which had never lost their amount of funny.     “Okay, so these two dogs walk into a bar,” I was trying not to giggle at dad’s most famous joke, “and they try to order, but the barkeep says: “I’m sorry, but we don’t serve dry bone alcohol to underage dogs.” Dad finished and I laughed while Oliver shook his head and laughed too. “Get it because the dogs are young in people years and they can’t have a drink yet.” Dad heavily laughed out.     “Dad that is always a good joke to tell when we are having fun and such.” I said when the bill came.     Oliver reached for it but dad said he would pay.     “I will pay Carlsone, it’s my pleasure.” Oliver said and took the bill to the counter, while dad and I got our stuff.     “I like him; he is so generous and kind.” My dad said and smiled, I knew that Oliver was going to make our lives better.     Dad was fine with Oliver staying for a bit, even though Oliver just comes in my room anyhow, and we all stayed up talking and playing games. “My turn, so Oliver how do you like my daughter? Do you like her for your looks or her?” Dad asked, rolling the dice and moving his sorry pawn toward home. “I like your daughter for her brains, her stamina to never give up, and her impeccable taste in beating us at this game.” Oliver said, nodding toward the board game. I just shrugged and rolled the dice, getting the last pawn into home and laying back. “I win, you boys go ahead and finish so I can see who will be second. It might be you, dad, or Oliver because you both are tied at the moment.” I said and watched them move their pieces toward home.     “Ha-ha I’m second, whoop!” My dad got up and shouted when he won second place and Oliver was in third.     “Way to go dad, sorry Oliver, maybe next time Oliver will beat you.” I said, sparing Oliver from any humiliating gesturing. “Good job Carlsone, I wish I could’ve played better but it has been a long while since I last played this game as a kid.” Oliver sighed and sat next to me, holding my hand.     “Well we always play any one of the many, many, many games we have in our game closet on these nights, so come on over whenever you want to.” My dad said, walking into the kitchen to get some water. “(Yawn) Well I am beat, I’m going to hit the hay, night dad,” I kissed my dad on the cheek and kissed Oliver on the cheek as well, “ See you later then.” I said as I headed downstairs, knowing Oliver would be down there soon excited me.     Dad and Oliver probably talked until Oliver “went home” or in my case, down to my room to hold my waist. I sighed into him and turned toward his body to hold him close.     “Wednesday is the best day in the week.” I muttered to Oliver.     “How is Wednesday the best?” Oliver sighed back, holding me against his chest     “It isn’t Monday,” Oliver nodded in agreement, “And it is closer to Friday.” I sighed and started to drift to sleep feeling Oliver close by, I never felt so at ease or relaxed EVER in my life.     “Go to sleep, Rose, I am watching over you.” Oliver closed his arm around my shoulder as I laid my head on his chest. I was running, just running, panting and heaving when I came to a stop in the nearby field. I heard him coming closer, so I kept running until I hit a ledge and viewed my options: A) jump off the cliff, B) face the culprit and fight, C) run in a different direction. I thought about option B, but instead I ran in another direction because my gut told me it was the best option. As I am running I hear yelling and screaming, then I see Oliver at the top of a hill running toward me.      “Oliver, they are coming after me.” I said and collapsed in his arms, breathing heavily.     “They won’t get you, HE won’t get you.” Oliver growled toward the running footsteps, growing closer and closer toward us.     “Hello Rose, we meet again and I must say you look very much like your mother.” A haunting voice told me.     “YOU, you, your Phantom!” I yelled at the vampire that had murdered my mother.     “Indeed I am, I am here to get you to join our cause without violence.” Phantom said smoothly.     “I would rather die than be anything like your murdering, ruthless, heartless, soul draining group of rouges.” I screamed at him, and he snarled.     “Then you give me no choice but to force you.” Phantom ran at me and grabbed my leg and dragged me. “OLIVER, HELP ME!!” I screamed as Oliver reached for my hand to try to pull me away, but it was too late.     I woke up panting and sweating with Oliver holding me on my shoulders, doing his best to calm me down, I shook from coldness and figured rouges were close by.     “Rose are you okay, because you were screaming my name and then you woke up shaking so hard. Was it a nightmare?” Oliver asked, looking at me with worry.     “I-it was Phantom, he was dragging me away and you tried to save me but it was too late.” I shuddered and held myself tightly.     “Its okay Rose, Phantom will never get you as long as I am still here.” Oliver grabbed my chin and put his forehead to mine.     “Alright, I got to get something,” I got up and grabbed a small boomerang shaped knife and went to bed, “This might get b****y, so S.A.R.A.H shield up.” I said and heard a loud sound confirming that my bed wouldn’t get blood or brain matter on it. I got out of the bed, again, stood my ground and holding my boomer knife in hand, ready for the rouge attack. I breathed in and out, closing my eyes, ignoring each heavy shiver washing over me and then I was surprised it was only ten rouges instead of a hundred or more.     “Why so little of a group?” I asked, seeing each rouge growl.     “We are a small clan, because most of us died out by your hand or before you.” One rouge, Demirindro I think it was, growled.     “Well less fun for me then.” I said, getting into my stance and smirking.     I slashed diced and pulverized each one, except the leader, and took the leader against the wall with a knife, I watched him squirm and I enjoyed it.     “That is not going to help the poison will spread faster if you move, so stop moving okay?” I said and twisted the knife to where he was near howling with pain.     “Let me guess you want whose next right? Well, I won’t tell no matter how much you t*****e me.” The rouge vampire growled. Strike one on his part. “Exactly, but I can make you squeal like a pig in less than a second. S.A.R.A.H bring it out for our lovely, not cooperating victim will you please.” I asked S.A.R.A.H and a mechanical arm came down with a vial that looked like water.     “Thanks, I’m parched after the battle; water is going to make me talk about everything.” The rouge said, rolling his eyes.     “It isn’t water.” I sneered; smiling after the rouge drank the truth potion. “(Cough, Gag) what is this?!” The rouge spitted out.     “It’s the truth I can get out of you.” I said, smiling again.     “The next clan is the Béarnaise clan; it has only fifteen members because of the plague and the wars.” The rouge sputtered out.     “Lovely, thank you very much.” I said then cut of his head and watching the flames, I crossed out the clan I just defeated and marked off how many was left till I got to Phantom in person. “Five more and then Phantom is mine.” I said, throwing yet another knife at Phantom’s head picture.     “Rose, I will be by your side to defend you through thick and thin.” Oliver said, putting a hand on my shoulder.     “I know you will,” putting a hand on his, “And I respect that, thank you.” I said, smiling at him.     “I won’t let anything bad happen to you ever.” Oliver said, kissing my lips lightly.     I held Oliver’s head to mine and I just let go of my walls and my defenses for one moment. Oliver held the small of my back as I pushed away. I looked at him and shook my head.     “What is it?” Oliver asked tracing my facial features with his hand.     “You are really stubborn you know this right?” I asked, kissing his nose.     Oliver turned over and pinned me, kissing me again. “I’m stubborn huh? What about you, you’re the one who is stubborn.” Oliver sighed and lay on his side, looking at me through those dark eyes.     “Yes, your stubborn Oliver and I’m the normal one.” I said sarcastically.     “I think that should be switched around.” Oliver said, laughing as I rolled my eyes.     I stuck out my tongue and he just smiled at me. I rolled my eyes toward the ceiling and drifted to sleep, happy tomorrow was closer to Friday and a hectic weekend. I smiled knowing Oliver had his arm around me and I had never felt better in my entire life. It was a horrible night and I could tell by the bags under my eyes, but I couldn’t remember a bad dream or rouge or one of my five animals waking me up.     “What happened that made me so tired?” I asked Oliver after I got ready for school.     “Nothing, you just slept, smiling, no tossing and turning at all.” Oliver said, shrugging his shoulders. “Maybe I am just too well rested, I don’t know, or maybe I’m just worrying to where it’s drained me of my fun perkiness.” I said, shrugging.     “Maybe, I’ll meet you at school.” Oliver said and exited with a breeze following him.     I shook my head and sighed to myself.  I figured he ran all the way or his parents drove him so no one is suspicious of what Oliver is. That is one stubborn guy, but he is my stubborn guy. I thought to myself and knew it was true. I ate and got my stuff into the car, dreading every millimeter we would go to that satanic school, and headed off to school. “So Rose, Oliver and you a couple at school, or is that an only family thing?” Dad asked, turning into the parking lot of the school. “Yea, it is now official outside of our neighborhood, I kind of like it.” I said, smiling again. “It’s been a long while since you smiled, thirteen years or so, I think this one is a keeper.” Dad said, smiling at this fact. “I know, it feels good to relax and let down my defense a bit to let in some light on my life.” I said, still grinning. We arrived at school and of course Oliver was there before me to open my door for me, even though I am a big girl and I can do it for myself. “Morning Carlsone, morning Rose, How did you sleep?” Oliver asked both my dad and I. “The cat couldn’t have been louder than what is was; I’m surprised she slept through it.” Dad said, pointing at me. “I heard it, but I was doing my best to ignore it.” I said, angry that the cat couldn’t pick a better time to go into heat. “Well, you two lovebirds have a great time at school.” Dad said, driving off to work as Oliver and I walked to our normal spot away from a crowd. “You seem delightfully happy today or you are just smiling for no reason, like you normally do.” I said, watching his expression “Diamond is fake crying again, it is hilarious to watch.” Oliver said as I turned to see Diamond fake crying like the little non popular she truly is. “Ha-ha that does lift the spirits doesn’t it?” I asked, laughing at Diamond’s misery. “Oliver was my boyfriend, but then he, like, cheated on me with that, like, loser.” Diamond cried to her fake posse, who were getting tired of Diamond’s shenanigans too. “Diamond we are tired of this, when are you going to realize the truth?” One member asked and my face was so shocked at that moment. “Why aren’t you using our, like, really popular talking language?” Diamond asked, her face expression is changing to anger. I went over there to settle this before it got bad.  “So Diamond can’t figure out her so called “Friends” don’t want to do this or deal with it for any longer huh?” I asked, putting air quotes around friends. “They, like, do to want to hang out with me because I pay them.” Diamond sneered; pulling out a pocket mirror to make sure her horrid make-up was done right or wrong in her case. Bleach, her makeup was so disgusting you could get everyone on the planet to throw up twice. “We don’t Diamond, we don’t want to hang out with you, and besides you counterfeit bills that don’t have actual presidents on them.” Another member said, standing her ground. “Really let me see this fake money she has been ILLEGALLY giving and making.” I said as one other member handed me a Bill with a fake president.  I almost laughed, no correction; I giggled when I saw the fake bill. “President Cold aid, when did he become president?” I asked Diamond. “He, like, became president in two- thousand and nine, then got re-elected this year.” Diamond said, referring to President Obama. “That’s Obama you twit, Obama is president now, but I guess you never happened to look in a text book did you?” I asked, puckering my lips at her. I knew it would get her ticked or try to start a fight with me. “I, like, know who is president you i***t and it is not this, like, Obama it is Cold aid.” Diamond said putting a hand in my face. That is strike two and I was upset. “Diamond you don’t want to do that.” Oliver said, backing away to give us room for me to explode. “I can, like, do whatever I want to because I’m popular and also you really should’ve picked me Oli-wali.” Diamond said walking toward me and slapping my face in front of the camera. Strike three, you’re out. “Uh- oh, you’re going to get it now.” Oliver said while backing into a far part of the school yard, but smiled while saying it. “Did you just slap me?! Did. You. Just. Slap. ME?!” I yelled, grabbing Diamond’s wrist in self defense, so the school can’t say anything. I twisted hard enough to pop it out of the socket and Diamond was lucky I didn’t take her arm and break it across my knee or worse take a tiny hack saw and saw it off slowly. Diamond squirmed with pain as she actually cried and I was surprised when the school came to break us apart that Diamond tried to lie again. “I, like, tried to calm this, like, rat down when she got mad but she almost broke my wrist.” Diamond smiled evilly in my way and turned back to start fake crying again. “Then why Ms. Guerinla did we see you slap her on the camera and say: “I am popular and I can do what I want.”?” The principle asked, showing us the video. “I can do whatever I want because I’m, like, super popular.” Diamond said, flipping her hair with the not slightly twisted arm. “No you’re not, Diamond, and for that I am suspending you for half a month.” The principle sighed. “What about this, like, loser? What punishment does she get?” Diamond asked pointing at me with her “hurt” hand. “She doesn’t get a punishment, because she was defending herself from you.” The principle said, nodding at me to leave. “But I, like, paid you to let me go and I demand to know why you aren’t taking a bribe.” Diamond screamed so loud that half the school could hear her. “You are lucky that I do not get you arrested for counterfeiting bills with fake presidents on them.” The principle said, showing a bill with a picture of George the monkey on it. I swear I laughed for quite a while at this until I was asked to leave the office. “Ummm, those aren’t, like, mine they’re Rose’s. She put them in my purse.” Diamond said, pointing at me again. I was only halfway out the door before another lie was sent my way again.
