“Ten minutes to the jump point, Captain,” said Sonia. “We should be getting sensor returns in the next few minutes.”
“Thank you,” said Drake. “Let’s hope it’s quiet.”
“I could certainly go for some peace and quiet.”
“Jensen, check the sensor returns carefully. I want to know if anything is out of the ordinary.”
“Aye, Captain,” replied Jensen.
“Expecting trouble?” asked Sonia.
“The way our luck’s been going?” said Drake. “Too damn right!”
Sonia chuckled but didn’t answer, instead turning her attention back to her console. Drake settled back to wait, letting his crew take care of their tasks and making sure he was ready if needed.
When it came, Drake felt the sudden spike of concern from Jensen and so was half prepared for his shout.
