ISABELLA'S POV
"She is not going to remember. She was shielding herself as well. The guy said she was his mate." I hear Patrick tell my parents outside my bedroom door, but I have no idea what they are talking about. I wonder if someone in the coven got in trouble?
I must've drank too much last night at the bar because I have no idea what happened. I was doing shots, and then I don't remember a thing.
I vaguely remember Patrick guiding me to my bed and me being really tired. I fell asleep as soon as I hit the pillow, but that guy was in my dreams again. This time, it felt different. This time, I was able to touch him, I felt goosebumps erupt on his body when we touched. His blue eyes are haunting me every time I close my eyes. His perfect nose, his strong arms, everything about him calls me, but I can only see him in my dreams.
"Bella. Are you awake?" I hear my dad call out the door.
"I am now!" I respond annoyed.
"We need to talk to you. We'll be downstairs in my office. Hurry up." He yells, and I hear everyone's retracting steps.
I get ready fast, is not a good idea to make Lucas wait. He is the leader of our coven and a man of little patience. I cautiously step out of my room expecting to see someone, but nobody is around.
I am about to knock, but I stop when I hear their voices.
"Father, are you sure? A beast? She is a witch, her and I are supposed to take over for you and mother one day." Patrick and my dad are having a conversation. He is not really my dad, and Patrick is not really my brother, but Lucas raised me, and I grew to love him as my father since mine abandoned my mom after I was born. Lucas married my mom, and we became a family. I wonder what is going on?
"Is not impossible, son. You'll find out more after we talk to Bella." Dad responds.
"May I come in?" I ask, opening the door carefully.
"Come in, sweetheart. How are you feeling?" My mom asks, giving me a hug and guiding me to the chair in front of dad's desk.
"I'm fine, mom. I don't know why am I here. I remember Patrick carrying me to my bed. I just don't know why you want me back after years of you letting me be away." I ask.
"It is time for you to come back. You and Patrick are the next in line to take over for us. You have to start training, learning what it means to be the leader of the Moon Dust Coven." My father starts telling me. I knew this conversation would come one day, but it doesn't feel any better. It gives me stomachache.
"I don't know if that's what I want. I am not an Altamirano father. Everyone knows this. The coven won't accept an outsider as a leader. Plus, Patrick has a soul mate. She is the one who should really be here." I explain.
"Amy wants nothing to do with me, sis. She is stubborn." Patrick retorts.
"Because you told her you were hoping for a more powerful being for a life partner, and then you suggested to have an open relationship! I wonder why she hates you." I finally call him out. It's been months, and he has not even tried to reconnect with her. He left and didn't bother to break their bond. My poor friend is living in a nightmare because of him.
"Patrick Altamirano, is that true?" My father immediately gets up from his chair, looking at Patrick with rage.
" It was a joke. I was scared, I am only 24, I thought it was too soon to settle, but I regret it. Amy is perfect for me, her magic is one of a kind. She started to say the rejection words, but I couldn't take it, and I took off. I tried to gain her back, I do every day, but she hates me." He explains.
"I haven't seen you once near her!" I accuse him.
"Is a private matter between her and I. I can feel her pain, and I try to give her strength, but she keeps rejecting me." He looks really sad, like he is about to cry.
"Son, did you two.... mate?" Noo, I don't want to know this.
"We did. We couldn't stop ourselves. We had the fight right after." He says apologetic, looking down.
"You are such a romantic." I snap sarcastically.
"Son, you better fix this before the new moon. You two are connected in a way, and I will not allow a rejection. She is the future mother of our coven. Not to mention, the pain you are causing your soul mate could kill her." The hairs on the back my neck stand on end when I hear him. I will not forgive my stupid brother if he hurts her.
"I will fix it, father." He says determined.
"Good, you will go to her after our talk. Now Isabella. You are still the future of this coven. Amy and Patrick will lead, but you are not to be ignored. You are my child no matter what, but your path is different. You are also meant to lead." Is like he is talking in riddles.
"I don't understand." I tell him.
"Sweetheart, do you remember what you were doing last night?" My mom asks.
"What? Yes, of course I do. I was with my friends at a nightclub, waiting for the transitional moon, and then, I was....." I stop because I really don't remember.
"I saved you from mating with a flea bag." Patrick whispers.
"Mate!" I hear a voice in my head. Is so loud I can't stop but touch my head. Did I really hear that?
"That's a lie! I was not with a wolf." I yell defensively.
"Oh, but you were, little sis. You were drunk, making out with an Alpha, but I took you away!" Patrick starts saying nonsense. If I was, is best that I don't remember. Wolves are the worst kind of creatures. except from Riley, everyone else is just dumb with their judgment of witches.
"Mate!" I hear again in my head, a little louder this time.
"Ahh, my head!" I say, touching my temple.
"Are you alright?" Dad asks, worried.
"I... don't know. I think I am going crazy." I tell them, honestly.
"Oh, Lucas, we have to tell her." My mom says crying.
"Tell me what?" I ask, worried.
"There is something that we have never told either of you, but after last night, we thought it was time to tell you." My dad starts while we watch him attentive.
"Several years ago, all creatures lived in peace with each other. There weren't rules about mates and soul mates. Vampires, witches, and
werewolves even shared territory, sometimes even helped each other, but things changed when a wolf found her mate or mates, I should say. A warlock and a vampire. Everyone became afraid of each other, such things were unheard of." My dad continues.
"That sounds crazy and ridiculous." Patrick states.
"Are you still here?" I tell him annoyed, He just lifts his hands in surrender.
"The wolf belonged to Midnight Moon pack and the Warlock to Moon Dust coven." My dad continues.
"The vampire had no clan. Nobody really knew how he even got in the picture. The girl's father, an Alpha, disowned his daughter. She was next in line to be Alpha, but he instead named his Beta's son his successor. They suffered, everyone rejected them. They didn't want to associate with them. They eventually didn't care and settled far away. They had a family, two girls, twins." I am wondering why is he giving us a history lesson. This is starting to get boring.
"It was because of them that the rules were created, no more getting together, everyone will have their own territory and no more crossing species, and the Moon Goddess accepted it this way too." What a sad story, this is why our world is so messed up, because a group of uptight people couldn't accept.
