CHAPTER 5. A WOLF

1349 Words
ISABELLA'S POV "What happened to the family?" I ask my dad, now intrigued. "Like I said, they had twin daughters, Ursula and Penelope, both very special kids. You'll see werewolves don't get to meet their wolf until they are 14, that is how the Moon Goddess made it and witches don't develop their habilities until they are 15, if you ask me, it should be later than that, they are still way too young to understand and cast spells that backfire and we have to clean them, so humans don't find out about us." He says, giving me a stem look. I blush with embarrassment, remembering how at 16 I thought I was in love with a human and casted a spell so he would like me back. It backfired horribly, the boy kissed me and for a very small moment, I thought it had worked, but he suddenly got very sick. My dad and Patrick had to clean his mind and sent him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with apendicitis. "I know, can we please skip that lecture?" I beg. He just chuckles. "The girls were special. It turns out that one was witch and the other was a wolf, their fathers could sense what they were as soon as they were out. It terrified them. The years passed, and the girls grew up, and that is when the problems started. The witch followed her path and continued to learn. She eventually found a soul mate but could never bear children. Ursula on the other hand, had more than she bargained for, her and her mate had a boy, a little warlock John. Her mate was not happy. He never believed his mate when she said she didn't cheat, but he didn't believe her. He took the baby to the steps of the nearest coven territory and killed his mate. The baby, John, was brought precisely here, and his mother was left to die at Midnight Moon pack. I still don't know if it was a joke from the Moon or a coincidence, but somehow, things did a full circle." I still don't know why he is telling me this. "Nobody really cared anymore what happened to the descendants. The story was long forgotten. Penny took care of Him and raised him like her own. He grew up to have a family of his own." My dad continues. "Is there a point to this story? What does it have to do with me and this coven?" I ask, annoyed. I am really tired and this story is giving me a headache. "We are getting there, honey. Lucas, I think is my turn to continue. " My mom suggests, and he smiles lovingly at her and nods. I've always admired their love for each other, and I still hope that one day I find my own. "Penny was my grandmother, and John was my father." My mom finishes. Patrick and I both gasp at the same time. "No way! Dad, did you know the story when you accepted her as your soul mate? I am starting to understand why grandma was so opposed to it. You almost didn't become my step sister, Bella. Grandma did everything she could to stop these two." Patrick reminds us. His grandmother still hates us. She says she can only see problems when she sees me, so we just avoid her altogether. "Well, she didn't succeed. 20 years later, and we are still together." My dad says, pulling mom to his lap. "Goodness, Lucas, the kids!" My mom says embarrassed. "Let them see how much we love each other. They can learn a thing or two about soul mates." My dad says, kissing my mom. Patrick and I turn around to avoid looking at them. Once they are done, my mom clears her throat. "When I met your father, I didn't know anything about my dad's past. He didn't know anything either. Grandma Penny kept everything to herself, It wouldn't have mattered, except that you were born, and Bill and I split. My grandmother told dad and I together, just before you were born. Bill didn't think he could handle the responsibility of being with me, he was worried that we were going to be judged." My mom says, looking down as if the memory still hurts her. "He didn't deserve you, mom. He did us a favor." I tell her, reaching for her hand, and she gives me a kind smile. "Sweetheart, what I am about to tell you is going to change your life and everything you think about me. I need you to know that I did it because I thought I was protecting you. I love you so much. It was the only way I thought I could help you." My mom starts to cry. "We did it together. Talked about it for days, but there was no other way." My dad cuts in. "When you were born, it was obvious you were special. I mean, my great grand mother was an Alpha, and her mates were strong leaders too. One day, one of their descendants was going to turn out to be incredibly special." My mom keeps going. "Nothing special here. I am an ordinary witch." I tell her. "No, honey. I knew it the moment I saw you, and Bill knew it too. You already had your witch powers." My mom says and stops herself. "Wait, so, If I already had powers, how come I didn't feel them until I turned 15?" I look at them confused. "I think they spellbind you, sis." Patrick responds. We are both looking at our parents waiting for an answer. "We had to do it. You were a little out of control. You kept moving things, and appearing things, and disappearing. We once found you under a tree. You were only 3 months, so we made the decision." My dad says, matter of fact, but it still looks like there is something missing. "Just say it, old man. I don't need to use my magic to read you. What are we missing?" Patrick tells dad. I'm glad to know I'm right, I wasn't imagining. "You not only were born being a witch. You also had a wolf." My mom says, voice low and cautious. "A wolf?" Both Patrick and I say at the same time. It is at that precise moment that I hear a loud beeping noise in my head, it sounds like a haul. It is so loud that I throw myself to the floor holding my head. "Bella, are you ok? Oh Goddess, Lucas, what is happening?" I hear my mom ask my dad, but he is not responding. "I think we had enough talk for one day. How about we go eat something and then get some rest. Patrick, I think you should be going to try to fix things with Amy." Lucas starts saying, while they help me get on my feet. "No, I have questions. You can't just drop this news and then expect me to just act like nothing. How come I didn't know about having a wolf, how come I never shifted?. What did you do?" I ask them. "Bella, maybe right now is not the time..." My mom starts saying. "All due respect, but she has the right to know. How come nobody knew about this. The coven must've suspect. The elders had to know." Patrick starts saying, holding me defensively. "Lucas and I met before you were born, but I was tied to Bill and I loved him, after he left, Lucas was there for me, the pain of letting your soul mate go and undo the bond is very painful, but Lucas was there with me and somehow we fell in love...." My mom starts stalling. "Mom!" I tell her in a warning tone. "Right, he noticed before anyone else. You were only a month old, and your wolf showed herself to him." This sounds like a made up story, but as crazy as it sounds, I believe them.
