CHAPTER SIX
The gargoyle known as Erastus wasted no time in leading me and Simon up the path to the Shadow Prison. He informed us that he could have easily flown us up there, but said that only gargoyles were allowed to enter the Shadow Prison from the roof. All visitors had to go through the front entrance, at least at first, in order to have our identities inspected and to make sure we were not planning to help any inmates escape. I tried to tell Erastus that we weren’t planning any breakouts, but he informed me that it was a simple formality that all visitors had to go through. He didn’t tell me what would happen to anyone who was discovered to be plotting a breakout, but I assumed it wouldn’t be pleasant.
