I am Saylor
Have you ever had something happen to you that you just didn't ever thin was possible to happen? Have you ever experienced something that would only come from a dream? I have, my life is something you could only dream of. I'm just not sure if its a nightmare or a normal dream. It all honestly really started when I was just about 18. . Was I excited? I guess I mean it's not like anything was really going to change right? I would be able to do what I wanted with out worrying about what my parents were going to say, that was honestly the biggest change. I was an adult at 18. I lived in a normal house with my very normal family. You know the American dream type, with a mom and a dad who work hard for their money and always try to be involved in their children's life. I have an older brother named Ryder who's in the Army. He's my parents pride and joy. I have a younger sister, she's fourteen and a cheerleader, she thinks sweetly but like almost everyone else she can be rather stubborn. Her name is Bentley. Don't get me wrong I love my family to death. They're just all very normal, they're what's expected of society. Me? I was trying to break the mold, become someone that's presently unexpected. I really never get into trouble, but I would always test the boundaries. I got good grades but that's not what was important to me. What was important is that I enjoy myself along the way. So far that's worked. My friends, were like me, they want to get out of this town and do something they enjoy. They want to be the heroes of this town without having to shoot guns at the nations enemy like almost all of the graduating eighteen year-olds do. It's a sure way out of this town. We want to do something big. Melody was my best friend; she always has been. She wanted to make a difference with children, she was just not quite sure how to do it. Andy, joined our twosome in third grade when she moved here. She wanted to change the way people think about others. She thought people were too selfish. Then there's Brady. He was the only boy in our group. One day he just magically showed up and never left. Not that I minded. He wanted to start a business doing something that I really can't understand. I only knew that he wanted it to be the least greedy company out there. What did I want to do with myself? I was never quite sure, which is why I was planning on leaving in two days to go on a road trip to try and find myself. Hopefully something would lead me the right way, a girl can only hope right? "Hey what are you going to do for the next two days before we leave?" Melody asked. "I don't know, probably wait around for two days to be up honestly." I said looking down at the ground where I had been rubbing my feet through the sand as I was swinging on a swing next to her while Andy sat down in front of a big oak tree, her shoulder length hair blowing in the breeze. "Honestly, your mom and dad don't have any plans for you before you go? That just doesn't seem like them." Andy said not looking up from the book she was reading. "Yeah, Andy's right. They must have something planned for you before you go, they practically took a whole photo album of pictures of us when we had our first sleep over." Melody said looking at me and causing Andy to take her eyes off her book. "Wait that really happened, I thought you guys were just joking about that." I sighed. "No that really happened. My mom was a hysterical mess. She says she was just so excited for me, but we all know she was really grieving. Ryder still brings it up when I go to a sleepover and it happened in the fourth grade!" Melody and Andy both laughed at that. It was true my parents were kind of odd, but only in a "I love my kids so much that I'm not going to miss a single thing in their lives" kind of way. "So I guess you guys are right, my dad wants to take me into the office tomorrow and show me around." I said trying to get them off that topic of my embarrassment. "He's still trying to show you that the company is the greatest thing ever and convince you that you should go to college and take it over for him?" Andy asked, standing up from her spot and dusting herself off before coming over and leaning on one of the poles that held up the swings. My father had tried to do the same with my brother Ryder, but he wanted to do something 'bigger' he said, so the second he graduated high school he joined the Army. My mother was heart broken to say the least. It happened three years ago, and my mother still hasn't started healing from it. It doesn't stop her from calling him every chance she gets. Sadly, now he's set on having me take over. I can't blame him, of course they want their children close and what would be closer than having me follow in his footsteps? I just wasn't sure that was what I wanted to do. What eighteen year-old does? That was what the trip in two days was about, finding out who I really am now that I wasn't stuck in school and I actually had a choice in what I wanted to do. "You know how they are. I just hope he doesn't think it's going to stop me from going on the trip in two days. I have no intentions of not going no matter what happens." I said looking out towards the slides that were in front of me, but not really seeing them. I was dead set on figuring out what I wanted to do and makes sure I was happy, even if that meant going against my parents. I just really hope that it wasn't going to come to this. "Earth to Saylor! It's time for us to go, the last thing we need is the police stopping us because we're being suspicious in a playground after the 10 o'clock curfew. Can you imagine what your parents would say then?" Melody said shaking me out of my thoughts. "Oh cut it out it's not like they would know. We wouldn't get into any real trouble." I said playfully shoving her as I got up from the swing. "I don't know what you're talking about girl I know Andy would so get in trouble for how fineee she is." Melody said causing Andy to brighten up in total embarrassment. Melody was that friend to poor Andy, but she only ever did it when it was just the three of us. Andy was the kind of girl that really lacked confidence and Melody, no matter how odd it was, was always trying to build it up by saying weird things. I wrapped one arm around Andy's shoulders like I was protecting her from the horrible things Melody was saying. "Just because we know it would happen doesn't mean we have to scare her!" I said causing all of us to laugh. I really love my friends.
