Chapter 13

AVA’S POV             The next morning, I am awoken as light spills into the room and casts throughout every inch within its reach.  I slightly sit up in the bed, adjusting to the surroundings around me.  I had almost forgotten all that had happened last time till I realize I am laying in an unfamiliar bed and in an unfamiliar room.              I close my eyes to adjust to my new surroundings and try to breathe in all the information flooding through me from last night.  Just thinking about my parent’s reaction is breaking me into pieces.  I knew they would not be happy with the thought of me ending things with Alex, but I never expected the way in which they reacted.             It takes me a little while to gather my senses, as I slowly stroll over to the window on the far side of the room.  Staring out the window, I feel a sense of anger overwhelm me as I try to make sense of all that occurred last night.             How dare they place his feelings above my own.  I am their only daughter.  I thought family meant something to them, but I was apparently wrong.  At this moment, I begin to feel a sadness within me as I recall the moment in which I held with them.             There was always a feeling of distance between us and pressure for me to do and be as they wish.  Did they ever genuinely love me?  Or was everything I believed false.  My heart begins to sink as I think through my feelings and all in which I remember.             As I stare off in the distance out the window, not really noticing anything before me or around me, I hear a soft knock on the door.             “Good morning Ava.  We were hoping you would like to join us for breakfast in the family room downstairs.”             I try to recall from last night what her names was.  Carly, Cora, wait it was Cordy.  That’s what I recall Liam calling her last night. “Cordy, I’m not feeling hungry at the moment, but thank you for asking.”             Honestly, I am starving, but I’m just not ready to face anybody. Right now, I feel a sense of loneliness and a need to recollect my inner strength.  I never imagined my day to end the way in which it has last night.             “I understand.  I’ll have Liam bring you some leftovers.”             “You are too kind.  Thank you so much for your generosity and for letting me stay here last night.  I hope it didn’t inconvenience you too much.”             She washes so much warmth over me from the gentle way in which she speaks to me.  I just want to give her a hug and thank her for being so kind, but I refrain from doing so.  I’m sure I look like an emotional mess enough as it is.             “Not at all, you are more than welcome here,” she states before quietly closing the bedroom door behind her.   LIAM’S POV             Walking into the family room, I am disappointed as I realize that Ava is not at breakfast this morning.  To be honest, seeing her was one of the main reasons why I had woken earlier than normal.             My sister sees the disappointed look on my face.  “What, you’re not excited to see your dear old sister this morning,” she says while jokingly elbowing me in my ribs.             “You are right about ‘old’”, I jokingly jab back at her.             “Ha ha, you are only 7 minutes younger than me.”             “Okay, you two, let’s enjoy our breakfast this morning without you two teasing each other,” my mom interjects.             I look over at Cordelia in hopes for answers.  “She wasn’t ready to come down this morning, but I told her you would bring her some leftovers after breakfast,” my sister leans over and whispers in my ear.             “You’re not going anywhere just yet,” I hear from my brother Jamison as he walks over toward the table.             “Hey, what are you doing here today.  I thought you had some business with your pack out of town this weekend,” I sat as I give him a pat on the back.             “We were able to finish everything early, and well, I wasn’t about to miss out on moms egg casserole and cinnamon rolls. And besides, I have been hearing all about this mate of yours, and I think we can all agree that we are all anxious to meet her.  Thinking of which, which is she anyways,” he states as he glances around looking around the room looking for her.  “Did she get tired of you already?!”             “Ha… ha. What would I do without you around to give me crap.  She had a long night last night, so she’s just taking a moment to herself this morning,” I state uncertainly.  I’m actually hoping that she hasn’t changed her mind and decided to go back home to face her parents.  I’m not ready to lose her, and I’m sure by this point that her family already know that I am not human, but werewolf.             “I should probably bring something up to her quickly.  She has to be hungry by now.”             “Oh, have a seat Liam.  She seems like she just needs a moment or two to adjust to her new setting.  You can bring something up to her after breakfast,” my sister replies as she places her hand on my arm to motion for me to sit back down.”                   “Okay, okay, you’re right.  Besides, we should probably discuss how we should handle having a human here.  She is the first human to step foot on our land.  We cannot convert into our wolf form in front of her.  I don’t think she knows anything about wolves, and it doesn’t seem she knows anything about witches either.”             “Why would they keep it a secret about who they are to her?  This all seems rather strange, don’t you think.”             “I agree, and I think there is a lot to think about right now.  I’ll have a pack meeting with the rest of the wolves tonight and let them know about the situation.”             All I can really think about right now is seeing her.  I can’t really focus on any of my family at the table and what they are currently discussing.             I devour my food as quickly as I can and grab a plate to bring up to Ava. “James, have everyone meet me in my office in an hour,” I state as I quickly make my way out of the family room and up the stairs to see Ava.
