chapter 1
Walking through the grand entrance, her heart feeling like it was in her throat, Amelie Blackwood took a deep shaky breath as she entered the reception hall. Her eyes gracefully glancing over the faces of the people that had all gathered to celebrate her long-awaited engagement to the man that held her heart, Jason Stephenson.
Scanning the crowd, her gaze finally fell upon the man she believed she would spend the rest of her life with. Taking a tentative step, her arm was suddenly grasped. Spinning around in surprise, her eyes met the somewhat frantic expression of her best friend, Summer Hope.
"Is everting okay Summer?" a nostalgic smile present on her perfectly radiant face.
"You can't go in there!" the frantic expression showing signs of regret and sorrow towards her life-long friend.
" What do you mean? It's my engagement party, of course, I have to go in. I was just about to go to Jason." Thoroughly confused by her friend's behavior, Amelie turned again to find her fiancé.
Grasping her fiends hand tightly "please Amelie, you can't go in there!"
As she opened her lips to question her friend, a voice rang out across the hall, a voice she knew without even having to look. Glancing towards the stage, stood her fiancé, his chestnut-colored hair styled to perfection, his hazel eyes shimmering with happiness looking at the people gathered around. "Thank you all for coming to share this wonderful day with us. My fiancé and I are both thrilled to see so many of you coming together to bless us." Amelie smiled whilst watching the man she loved so much addressing everyone present.
Summer, still holding on tightly to her hand standing slightly behind her whilst glaring at the man on stage, dreading what was about to come.
Turning slightly, Jason held out his hand towards the back of the stage, a woman entering everyone's line of sight as she gently took the hand outstretched to her and smiled at the man before her. Blonde hair resting just at shoulder-length, manicured nails that looked just that little bit too long to actually be practical in everyday life, in a figure-hugging dress that looked like she had either starved herself for a week to get into or was just holding her breath so that she would burst a seam. Both approached the front of the stage as Jason began to address his audience again.
"My fiancé, Diana and I, appreciate everyone attending tonight, and we look forward to you all gracing us with your presence at our wedding."
Confused expressions crossed a few of those around as the whispers began to float around the room.
"Diana?"
"I thought he was marrying Amelie?"
"What's going on? Weren't they together for the past five years?"
Jason, obviously oblivious to the chatter going on around him, kept smiling dotingly at his new bride to be, leading her to the side of the stage and down the steps to mingle among their guests.
Summer, unable to stand by any longer, gave her friend's hand a firm tug, shaking Amelie from her state of disbelief.
"Did what I think I just saw actually just happen?"
Looking forlorn, Summer gently stroked her friend's hand. "I tried to stop you from going in. I didn't find out until just before you arrived. I was ready to kick that moron off the stage face first." Now quietly seething at the betrayal her friend had just endured.
Amelie took a quick glance over her shoulder at her now ex-fiancé, took a deep breath to calm the tidal waves of emotions that were swirling in her heart and smirked at her friend.
"Let's get out of here and go have some fun"
Snapping her neck up to look into her friend's beautiful forest-green eyes, she didn't see the heartbreak she was expecting, but the look of determination and rebellion that had long been lost in her pursuit of becoming that man's perfect woman. Now, with no one to criticize and suppress her, the long-lost passion she was so well known for was finally back and Summer couldn't hide her excitement. Bouncing up and down with a wicked grin of her own, she tightened her grip on Amelie and, before anyone could notice the two of them, they sprinted towards the entrance and to Summers' waiting car, heading back to her place so they could change out of their stuffy, poms formal wear and into something that was entirely more them.
Swinging the door open to Summers' flat, she waited no time in putting on music, loud enough to undoubtedly annoy her neighbors had they actually been home, threw open her fridge retrieving the new unopened bottle of wine she had been saving, grabbed two glasses from the cabinet and poured them both a very large serving. Whist dancing round the kitchen together drinking their wine, not a word was spoken about the night's previous incident, and wanting to keep her friends' spirits high, Summer opened another cabinet and debated what else to pull out. After a few minutes of consideration, she pulled out a large, half-finished bottle of tequila and brought it over to the kitchen side.
"Ame! Come do some shots! We can't possibly go anywhere before we've had a few!"
A slight giggle leaving her lips, Amelie went to stand on the opposite side of the kitchen island and summer grinned at her and poured a row of ten tequila shots. Scrunching her nose at her friend's antics, she couldn't help but laugh.
"Do you actually want us to make it out the door?"
"We used to drink at least double this much before you met that stick in the mud! Just indulge me and I promise we'll manage to at least make it outside". Both girls looked at each other and burst out into sidesplitting laughter.
Once they'd both calmed down into quiet giggles, Amelie nodded and picked up one of the shot glasses.
"Okay... here's to being able to actually have fun again!"
With an excited squeeze, Summer grabbed one of the glasses and shouted "to not having to deal with a wet blanket anymore."
With that, both girls grinned at each other and took their shots. After both drinking another two shots and finishing their glasses of wine, Summer dragged Amelie towards her changing room so they could find something to wear ready for their nighttime adventures.
After a couple of minutes raiding her wardrobe, Summer yelled out excitedly as she threw something towards her friend.
"You have to wear that! It'll look amazing on you and no guy will be able to keep their eyes off you!"
Amelie examined the item she had just had thrown at her and shook her head, laughing at her behavior.
"Okay fine, but you have to wear that dress we brought last time!"
Summer beamed at her friend and grabbed the dress she had mentioned. "DEAL!"
Within half an hour, both girls transformed, changing out of their elegant evening dresses and appeared as new people full of life. Summer wore a figure-hugging navy-colored halterneck dress, sapphire earrings and held a black clutch. The dress and heels she wore added to accentuating her already gorgeous figure, her deep red hair half up and half down in a messy but sexy style.
Bouncing out of the door full of excitement and expectations for the night ahead, summer called out "AME! Come on or else I'm going to claim the hottest guy tonight for myself!"
Unable to ignore her friend's contagious attitude, Amelie emerged from Summers' apartment, eyes widening as she took in her friend's appearance.
"OH MY GOD! Amelie! You look gorgeous!"
Amelie, wearing a spaghetti-strap black dress that fit her like a second skin, hugging her hips to give her the perfect hour glass figure with a low neckline that showed just the right amount of cleavage to be alluring and not tacky. Her black hair shining, hanging to her mid-back, silver accessories complimented her skintone and allowed her to shine. Linking their arms together, the girls smiled at each other and then headed out into the night.
