"Is she still out?" I faintly heard a female voice ask as I felt my body being laid on a plush bed.
"Yes the pregnancy is causing her to have a severe anemia episode with all the blood she has donated. When I got there, they had taken a few liters and had about a liter of her wolf venom. Her brother said she did a nature siphon to save a warrior's life. It's too much with the baby constantly draining her. She may have bouts of consciousness but will be too weak to function for a while." Xavier answers, caressing my forehead.
"Good for us. So why'd you bring this witch? What's going on with her? Is she a healer?" She asked, clanking something as she talked.
"No. She doesn't seem to have much magical power. She says she has been sired by Lexi. I wasn't certain if she was telling the truth since I wasn't shadowing her when she visited the coven, but I knew if she had been commanded to protect her somehow, there might be some trouble if I tried to take Lexi without the witch. Whoever she is, I know Lexi has to be someone of value to her. Lexi invited her into the pack with the other witches that were healing the pack, although she was just running errands for everyone. I don't think she will be any trouble as long as we keep Lexi comfortable. She came peacefully."
"She needs healing herself. Why does she look weakened? Did you do something to her? How do we know we can trust her? Lexi was very skilled at suppressing her abilities and looking at the power she held. She stayed off our radar for a few years after obtaining her wolf. Maybe we should put binders on the witch just to be on the safe side. The last thing we need is for someone to interfere with our job we have to do." I felt her hands moving over my wrist, connecting cords to my arm, head and chest, then hands massaging the gel and a cold machine pressing on my belly. I hear my pup's heartbeat on the ultrasound machine."Are you sure the pup is at the point where he can live outside of her? He's not in an ideal position. He's breech," she stated.
"Yes. His lungs are fully developed now, according to the doctors' notes. We don't have much of a choice even if he's not in the right position. We can always do a C-section or something, I'm sure," he replied.
"I know. There are many options. My emotions are just all over the place having to take a pup from his mother, that's all. Normally, I would consult with the mother and she would be a willing participant. The ultrasound shows the lungs are developed. We can deliver him safely." she took a deep breath before examining my body more. "I know it will be for the best of all species, but it still isn't an easy task. She looks so sweet and innocent. Nothing like a warrior to be afraid of. Are you sure they have the mother of her pups mate?"
"Not completely, but from how she described to me the connection, it's either they are bound together by their pups or they are each others second chance mate. Don't look at me like that. Her connection was severed with her first mate through a rejection. That was when she was teethered to the Alpha King's Beta female. Most enchantresses are sexually free. The witch there could be summoned to her as a s****l toy. Lexi has not mentioned a s****l attraction towards her but that may be something she wouldn't share. Knowing the power that is in both pups, I think it is better to assume it is the pups that is binding them. We can only stick to the facts right now. The royal family has reported the beta female abducted by the Inimucus Clan. At the same time, her vitals began to peak. They have video footage of the ambush from the royal vehicles. All the security detail she was traveling with is now deceased. She put up quite a fight and took quite a good few blows. It looks like she may be in distress. They only wanted her as leverage. She was orphaned and raised by the royals as a sister to the current king. They don't care about her unborn pup. If I'm right and she is in great distress, we need to keep Lexi monitored. It's very likely it will cause her to go into labor, and we can't have her leaving here with one of the strongest hybrid pups." he explained.
"Could she be mated to the King? She is one of the strongest hybrids there are, and I think would be a good match for him. With that, she would also have a connection to his Beta's. Is there a possibility you are wrong?"
"That would make things easier on our end, but I seriously doubt it. I sent a sample of her pheromones to the council and they released them in a diffuser in the king's presence, and he had no reaction to them, just as he had had no reaction to any of the other samples. We considered manipulating her scent to attract him until she found her mate while on assignment in the Blackhart Pack. She was planted there to be an inside man. If we knew she was mated to one of the Alpha twins, we would have intervened. He couldn't accept her, which is why I'm sure he didn't ask her to join forces with him. She was going to be our weapon until she came back knocked up."
"She's mated to Andre, right? He still impregnated her knowing he had marked that witch as his mate."
"I know that look. Sure she has lived a hard life. It's the anger and pain that makes her stronger. That didn't break her. When it all gets let loose, we will need a means of controlling the beast within. We have to stick to the plan."
"Oh hecky nawl! Lexi, are you hearing this? This is why daddy never trusted that man. What is he planning on doing to our pup? How does he plan on controlling us?"
"Shhh Sierra. I know. I'm trying to listen. That is why I've been doing as daddy said and have been using his lessons to learn the things that were not being taught. There is always a blind spot, " I explained.
"Her vitals are up. Actually fluctuating. She must still be in conversation with whomever you said was mentally teleporting her. Her numbers look like she's healing herself well and baby looks good. Since she is a vampire hybrid, I think it might be best to detox her from her blood craving so we won't have to worry about her going feral. I'll talk to the doctor and will see what he thinks. I'll also make some notes in her chart to use caution since I will be getting off soon. Another midwife should be coming in soon. I'll brief them to keep her monitored." the female said.
"Good idea. That will also keep her in a weakened state, and we won't necessarily need to sedate her. We'll just probably have to bind her magic. Not only is she a sorceress that can literally get into your head and control you, she comes from the vampire line that is magically able to pull at the spirit energy. She looks so nice, sweet and innocent but can literally kill you without touching you. We will need to do a protection spell for the whole hospital staff. You know how she wolves can be when separated from their pups. "
"That's one thing that has me concerned. I saw the reports that she is a unique tribid, so I have the binder cuffs already attached to her bed. I hope they are powerful enough." She said, attaching the cuffs to my arms and legs.
"Sierra, how are you feeling? Are the cuffs draining you or anything?"
"I'm just a little busy trying to replenish your cells, but I'm getting stronger by the minute. The cuffs aren't hurting me, but you're going to have to draw from somewhere to help me out since your magical side just got turned off. How do the binders work in our vampire healing? I know you can't siphon, but if we got blood would we be able to draw from the cells still?"
"Well, besides today, I haven't tried to siphon since I first found out I was pregnant. I didn't think it would drain me like it did. The cuffs are designed to prevent me from putting out magic. Like I won't be able to do spells or enchant anyone. It may affect my empathic abilities as well as siphoning and manipulating emotions. If I can get some human blood with live cells, I think I can still draw the strength I need from the life of the cells since that's internal. What are you thinking?"
"You know what I'm thinking. We need to get out of here and save our pup. We might have to bite someone the first opportunity we get."
"I hope we can avoid having to do that. X's vampire bloodline might have ill effects on me and the lady smells like a dragon. Maybe I'll have the opportunity with someone else, but I'm not even sure what to do after that. I'm too weak to do much planning and I don't know where we are. I could have to kill a lot of people to get out of here."
"I know we need to do something before the pup decides to come. It would be nice if we could make a call for backup."
" I can't mindlink my brother or anyone from the pack. We are too far away. I don't know if I can trust X after what he just said and Nicki is in a worse position than I am. I can feel Amhurst is weakened. It felt like she attempted to release some kind of energy signal almost like breadcrumbs to this location before they bound her. The only person I may be able to connect to is....oh hell no!"
"We don't have much of a choice. We need backup. They're trying to take our pup. I know you can feel we still hold a bond with him even though we accepted his rejection. We are still attached. His instinct will cause him to protect his pup even if he doesn't care about us."
"I almost feel like our pup will be safer being bound here by the council."
"Lex, they plan on taking him away from us. The best place for him to be is with us!"
"You're right. We will rest for a little while and I will try to reach out."
Although I was gaining strength, I continued to listen to Xavier and, who I'm assuming is some type of nurse or midwife, continue talking about the council's plan of taking my pup to use him as a means to defeat the Inimicus Clan. They made mention of how my blood and venom were able to help in the treatment and only looked at my pup as a weapon for their army. He wasn't even out of me, and they were already making plans for how to manipulate him and extract his fluids. They were so engulfed in watching my vitals and discussing their crazed plans they failed to realize that I was gaining consciousness and Amhurst moving around.
I heard the two walking across the room and the door closed. They must have forgotten Amhurst was left in the room with me or felt she was not a threat. I heard her breathing increase as she began moving in the corner of the room. My head was still throbbing. It was a struggle but I forced myself to open my eyes to see what she was doing.
"Amhurst... are you okay?" I whispered.
"Yes, just had another vision. Here, take a bite. We need to leave." She said, walking over and pressing her wrist to my mouth.
"What are you doing? No. How are we going to leave? " I said, turning my head from her only to be met by her hand holding my head still.
"You don't have a choice. If what they are saying is true, then my vision will come true. You may not survive child birth in a weakened state. I know I'm not human, but my blood should still help. Vampires love to drink witch blood too, right? Look, stop moving and just take a small sip." She said this time, holding her wrist to my mouth more forcefully. "Lexi, I need you at full strength for what I just saw in my vision. If you die they're going to kill me too and your pup and everyone you care about."
"What did you see?" I asked, turning towards her.
"Drink. I'll tell you once you can actually lift your head" she said, pressing her wrist to my mouth again.
"Fine." I murmured , quickly biting into her arm and taking a few swallows of her blood. I could see the bite hurt her but she was trying to keep a brave face.
"That's all you need?" She asked, surprised.
"No, but it should be enough to get rid of this headache. I'm not trying to hurt you. Could you put a few more drops into my necklace just in case I need it later?" I said, pulling my necklace out of my shirt and handing her the attached vile. "So tell me what did you see?"
With a concerned look on her face she took a breath, climbed into the bed next to me and in detail she explained her visions confirming what we overheard being discussed by Xavier and the unknown woman. There were two outcomes that she saw. One from when we were leaving the coven and another while being teleported.
I have worked for the council for so long and for the longest they have brushed off my suggestions of working on a way to get the supernatural factions to accept hybrids, to the point that those with inherited strengths would not have to suppress their natural born abilities or be bound. I knew they feared the possibility of having powerful beings walking around, but I had no idea that they, in fact, were responsible for manipulating the very existence of hybrids.
They feared me to the point that they planned on disposing of me and using my pup as some sort of science experiment.
I was confused about who I could trust.
I was told the Inimicus Clan were the villains.
Their motive was to gain control over the supernatural world. They were going to distort all other factions. Their motive was only selfish.
But what really would they gain by that?
It's a lot of responsibility to be in charge of the factions. Are they attempting to change the chain of command? Or could it be they are only trying to be heard? To be allowed to live freely as who they are.
My grandmother only wanted to be with the man she loved and that was hindered because they weren't the same supernatural species.
My grandfather was forced to leave his family just to pursue his love for my grandmother.
My mother and father's love was only accepted because they are both considered outcasts.
I began thinking of the packs that had no interest in even finding their pack members because of their hybrid status. There were some that even though it was a blessing to get rid of those ones. Some even sacrificed the hybrids in the pack so they would not be attacked.
According to Amhurst, the safest place for me and my pup would not be here. We needed to get out and I knew what I needed to do.
I explained to Amhurst my plan as I licked the wounds left from my bite to heal her wrists and get rid of the evidence that she had allowed me to feed on her.
Remembering my time in his pack and in his presence, I was extremely hesitant to make that call. Thoughts of his rough touch. The way he forced himself on me, bruising my insides. The marks from his hand around my neck. It all still plagues my nightmares. The hospital room reminded me of the helplessness I felt at that time when I was so afraid of trusting the nurse to help me get away from the abuse. I swore I would never allow myself to feel that way again.
The council knew of my fear of being locked up, but yet here we are. They knew he was the only one I could contact and probably assumed I would never. I hoped that my former mate had enough love for his unborn pup. He would do right by us even if it meant upsetting his chosen mate.
