Chapter Fourteen It should have been him out there with his wife, helping her into Zac’s truck, but it wasn’t, and he couldn’t stand at the window, watching his wife drive away from him—even though that was what absolutely had to happen right now. He sat on the sofa, his face in his hands as he relived the horror in his wife’s eyes. Annie, the woman he had promised to love and protect, now needed protection from him. What was worse was that she was afraid of him. She feared for her life, and to see that fear in the face of someone he loved was worse than anything he could have ever imagined.
