CHAPTER 8: Of Age

As the pillow fight came to an end, we collapsed onto the soft sand, breathless with laughter and exhilaration. Mia flopped down beside me, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "That was amazing! Best pillow fight ever!"

Leo chuckled, joining us on the sand. "Agreed. Who knew a simple pillow fight could be so much fun?"

I nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. "Thank you, both of you. This has been the best birthday ever."

Mia grinned. "Well, it's not over yet! We still have cake and presents to look forward to!"

Leo nodded, his eyes twinkling with excitement. "And maybe even a midnight swim in the ocean!"

As we settled back into our cozy spot by the fire, Mia produced a cake adorned with candles, their flames flickering in the gentle breeze. "Make a wish, Jade," she urged, her voice filled with warmth and affection.

Closing my eyes, I made a silent wish, feeling a surge of gratitude for the friends who had made this birthday celebration so special. Blowing out the candles, I opened my eyes to the smiling faces of Mia and Leo, their love and friendship filling me with a sense of belonging I had never known before.

"what did you wish for?" Leo asked

"I can't tell you then it won't come true" pushing him back

"Hopefully it comes true plus more" I say under my breath

"you hope what come true"

I turned to see Alex standing over us in the sand. jumping up "oh nothing I just made a birthday wish"

"Oh Ok, well here I have a present for you, follow me" as we rounded the corner of the cabin a pink Jeep Wrangler with a black bow was sitting in the driveway. "WHO IS THAT FOR" " you don't have to scream Jade I can hear you" Alex said while holding his right ear. " Oh I'm sorry, I'm too excited right now to think straight" clearly i screamed too loud cause Leo and Mia runs around the corner ready to fight.

"OH MY SUN" Mia screams running to me. now we're both jumping up and down screaming.

"I'm glad you like it"

"Like it? I LOVE IT, ITS MY FIRST CAR EVER AND ITS PINK"

" Yeah he said you'd like it"

Causing me to stop and look at Alex " Who's He?"

"Oh nobody just Kai" he says nonchalantly

Just like that I can feel my cheeks getting warm.

"Let's get back to the cake and fire" Leo says snapping me out of my moment.

"OK guys this birthday is literally going down in history as THE best" pulling them into a hug.

As we indulged in slices of cake and exchanged gifts, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the magic of the moment. Surrounded by the beauty of the night and the warmth of friendship, I knew that this birthday would be one I would cherish for a lifetime.

Jumping up from my bed I made my way down to the beach to clear my head. that's when I saw her "Jade" I saw her turn. "I'm on guard duty tonight Alex had something he had to handle by morning" making up a half lie " ok I was just getting some fresh air, I'll head back in." she said turning to leave "bad or good?" "excuse me?" she asks. I turn back and say " was the dream a good dream or a bad dream" "well I guess you could say a mixture of both" she said putting her head down. I could see the red in her face. like a fire waiting to burn someone. That someone was definitely going to be me.
