"Are you threatening me?!" Ethan slammed his palm on the table, his face flushed with anger, his eyes piercing into the doctor's soul. His heavy breathing filled the tense room.
"No..no sir, I dare not." The doctor stammered, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He knew he had stepped into a dangerous game. "I'm just saying, I might face a lawsuit if she dies. We urgently need to find a blood donor for her."
Ethan frowned his brows, his face darkened and his expression was not something to write home about. "I don't care what happens to her, she is of no use to me again."
The doctor clenched his fist under the table, of course, he is not more than a pawn in their game but he doesn't want to get involved and be sent to jail. "Sir, even if you don't care about her, you can still help her, she might still be useful to you in the end."
"Exactly, Ethan," Penelope interjected, her voice softening Ethan's features. "The doctor can erase her memory, and she can serve as a surrogate for us since I can't bear a child."
"Don't say that, Penelope," Ethan replied, gently caressing her cheek. "You will bear our child; I believe in it."
Tears welled up in Penelope's eyes as she shook her head. "Stop giving me false hope, Ethan. We both know I can't conceive."
"Dry your tears, my dear, I don't care if you can bear me a child or not, what I wanted is for you to be by my side forever." He pulled her closer and hugged her.
"Fake." The doctor mumbled under his breath.
"What did you say?" Ethan's tone turned sharp, his gaze piercing the doctor.
"Nothing." He quickly put up a smile. He can't afford to offend Mr Ethan Thompson, or can he?
"So what do you suggest I do with that thing, Penelope? I'm only keeping her because of you."
"Let's find a donor for her, with that, she can repay us with her fetuses." A grin appeared on her face and the doctor shivered slightly in fear.
***Three days later, at the Thompson mansion...
"Drop your bag in the maids' quarters and head to the kitchen to prepare lunch," Penelope commanded Tiana, pointing her finger towards the quarters.
Tiana clutched her fist, wishing with all her heart for a chance to punch this devil incarnate in the face. How can she and Ethan plan to take over what she had been working on for years? That's not possible.
"Yes, ma'am," Tiana replied meekly, concealing her inner turmoil. She had to play along for now, biding her time.
She moved towards the maid's quarters. Her house now belongs to someone else but not for long. Although she had bought the house in her husband's name, she believed she could get it back if her plan succeeded.
Tiana met three other maids in there and they all looked at her with awe and curiosity, wondering how their mistress had turned into a maid.
"Ma'am, what are you doing here?" One of them asked, unable to keep her questions within.
"Ma'am?" Tiana asked, trying her best to look as if she didn't know them. "I don't know you guys, or have you ever met me before?"
"Yes, you are our..." The second maid nudged the first one, telling her to seal her running mouth before dragging her outside.
"You don't have to worry, your real mistress will soon be back." She muttered to herself.
***Back to the hospital...
"Doctor," Penelope sat across the doctor, a sorrowful look on her face. She was happy when she was coming to the hospital but the news broken to her shattered her happiness like a glass vase thrown to the floor. "You mean nothing can be done to my barrenness?"
"Nothing, Mrs. Penelope. As I told you some weeks ago, the abortions you went through damaged your womb and you will not be able to bear a child unless God intervenes." The doctor shook his head, his eyes full of pity and wonder.
How can the woman before him be pitiful and wicked like this? He had always wondered why she and Ethan were so wicked to Tiana.
"If only you can employ the service of a surrogate mother. I think that will be the best idea for now." He suggested.
"Ohh!" Penelope hung her head in dismay.
"And there is something I need to inform you," he paused, she turned her gaze towards him. "It's about Mrs. Tiana."
She hissed loudly, "And what about her?"
Realizing what he was about to do, he shook his head, maintaining a calm posture. "Nothing."
**Meanwhile, at the Hudson Group of Companies...
"Have you researched the project? I won't allow the Thompsons to outsmart us this year," Evan Hudson, the CEO, inquired, pointing to a design on the screen.
"Sir, I'm thinking that we do something extraordinary and leave this one we are already on." Evan's assistant said.
"Why?" One of the board asked.
"We all know that every year, the Thompsons always end up creating the exact thing we are creating and even improve it. I thought that there might be a spy among us who leaked the information out. So if we change the project: which will be a top secret that not all members of this company will know, we will win the Thompsons." He explained and the members began to mumble, some praising his suggestion while others condemned it.
"But that will make us waste this masterpiece right here," Evan said. "And it will also be time-consuming as we have already spent a lot of time on this piece."
"Sir, it will be better to work hard on the project than lose to that scheming Ethan Thompson. We all know how he always manages to win every competition even if his work is not good enough. And that only means one thing; he bribes."
"Your suggestion is really good and I would like it if we can act on it, but I want us to keep this in mind, the Thompsons are not easy and will always find ways to win any competition:even if it means cheating. We mustn't leave a gap for cheating this year." Evan said looking around the room. They all agreed to what he said and he was very sure they would win the competition this year fair and square.
"This meeting is dismissed," Evan said. They all bowed down for him as he left the conference room.
"Drive to Gateway Supermarket, I need to pick something up." He ordered to his driver and soon within 10 minutes, they got to the supermarket.
His mind was preoccupied with the coming competition. And his greatest rival is also competing. It's not that Evan is not sure about himself, but, Ethan has always managed to win every competition even if his works are not good enough.
Evan had been losing to Ethan but not this year, definitely not this year. He will find everything within his power to make sure they win.
He was about to enter the supermarket when he bumped into someone very familiar.
"You!" He exclaimed, locking eyes with the unexpected individual.
