Chapter 6

714 Words
**Marlene's POV** I waited, I wasn't going to be the one to seek him out. He knew I wanted answers, so he can find me, if he is willing to talk to me or not. I can tell Jake is the one in charge of everything so he is the one to give me answers and I won't budge on getting them. I sat on the bed waiting for the knock on the door that seemed to never come. I feel something wet hit my hands that are folded in my lap. I hadn't realized I was crying until then. I was so frustrated because I started to have feelings for Jake and he has been lying to me about what he knew. And now he isn't willing to confront me and have me stay. Those feelings must not be mutual then. I grab my bag and start for the door. If I'm not getting answers then I am leaving, no matter how much the thought alone makes my heart hurt. We had been on a date, coffee once and he has saved me twice, I thought that maybe he liked me. But I was wrong, and this is why I never liked to date. Men will always be the cause of your heart ache. I grabbed the door handle and hesitated, did I really want to leave? No, but I had to make a stand. I need answers and if they won't give them then I will find them on my own. I took a deep breath and pulled the door open, before I could step through the door I ran into a massive wall of warm body. I look up and see Derek with his hand up like he was about to knock. I take a step back put my bag down and cross my arms. "What do you want?" I say in a clipped tone. He drops his arm and says "I want to talk, I don't have the answers you're looking for but I need to talk to you before my brother does." He looks calm but his eyes are pleading me to listen. I sigh and step aside and motion for him to come in. He smiles a little and heads in. I close the door and sit at the desk while he starts pacing in front of me. "I want to ask that you have an open mind to what you will be learning." He paused in his pacing to look at me while running his hand through his hair. I can see he is struggling to find the right words. "It may seem impossible but there are things in this world that actually exist despite contradictory stories." He sighs and starts pacing again. "Jake will be explaining everything soon but please try to understand, this isn't easy for any of us. If the wrong people find out where we are, bad things will happen to a lot of innocent people." He stops again and looks towards me with pleading eyes. "I promise to have an open mind, but there better be a good explanation for hiding necessary information as to who is behind all this crazy sh*t." I made the promise and meant it, I need to find out everything so I can figure out how to end it. If what they tell me is believable and the truth then we can finally move forward. Derek let out a long breath and nodded at me before heading for the door. He opens the door and just before stepping out he turns to me again and says something I didn't want to believe to be true but was happy about. "Jake cares for you, and your good for him. Give him a chance, for all of our sanity." He says the last part in a low chuckle. After Derek left I sat on my bed contemplating what it is Jake might be getting ready to tell me. But I can't come up with anything logical. The man who attacked us on multiple occasions seemed more of a beast than anything else and I get goose bumps just thinking about the creepy and quite frankly scary growl noises that he made. This is going to be a long night.
