Chapter 25 Marsh watched the man as he had every Saturday for the last six months. He was tall and dark-haired, with a face so full of misery and despair Marsh knew the grave he visited had to belong to his wife or perhaps a partner, someone who he had loved more than life—then lost. Seeing that made his own sadness seem almost mundane. He had cared about his sister but they’d drifted apart until close to the end when she had asked him to come for a visit. Marsh had found that he liked this city and what it had to offer. Since he was self-employed it had been easy enough for him to pull up stakes and move here, which he’d done just before his sister’s unexpected and tragic death.
