CHAPTER 1
"This is my bank card, Melissa." You can spend money on everything you need."
Melisa was still thinking about what her new husband said when he handed her a bank card in the morning a few hours later.
To be honest, she didn't know much about her spouse.
She didn't know anything about him other than his name, and she didn't even know who his family members were.
Melissa couldn't explain how she summoned the guts to marry a man she'd only met twice.
Melissa met Alexandra for the first time on a blind date ten days ago with the help of Antonia, her best friend.
She didn't have a chance. After all, she'd been harmed three years before, and she didn't have the right to be critical any longer, so she accepted her fate.
On the day of the blind date, she arrived 15 minutes early.
Because she lacked any redeeming attributes, she could only improve in other areas in the hopes of making a positive impression.
She could also put her parents at ease if she could marry a suitable man.
The gentleman arrived on time.
The man's clothing and shoes were quite formal, which provided her a good first impression of him and made her realize how important he regarded this blind date.
His greeting was likewise somewhat mundane. "Hello, Miss Melisa! Alexandra is my name."
It was an unremarkable sentence, but Melissa felt exceptionally nice and had a better opinion of the man than previously due of his voice's compelling quality.
They exchanged phone numbers and left after a brief conversation.
Melissa didn't take this blind date seriously because she had been on so many before.
She expected this blind date to go the same way as the others. Kevin called her two days later, completely unexpectedly.
"Miss Melissa, are you free tonight?" he said, his voice as pleasant as before.
Alexandre had invited her to dinner at an Italian restaurant that night.
Melissa disliked the discomfort of a blind date. They didn't say much in the meal. She was a little apprehensive during lunch, so she didn't eat much.
Originally, she was looking for an excuse to leave early. "Miss Melissa, I have some time next Wednesday," Alexandre said first, interrupting her. How about we get our marriage certificate picked up then?"
His expression and demeanor were grave, and he didn't appear to be a rash individual. He said he wanted to marry her after only meeting her for the second time?
The man's deep mesmerizing voice then reached her ears once more. "I assumed you were similar to me. Going on a blind date with the goal of starting a family, getting married and having children, and living a "normal" life."
"Yes, I believe so. However, this is our second meeting. Don't you think it's a little too quick?" Melissa remarked. She wanted to start a family of her own, but she didn't expect it to happen so quickly.
"It's a little too quick." Alexandra maintained her calm demeanor "I went back and thought about it for two days after the initial encounter. You've given me a positive vibe. I believe our personalities do not clash, so I'd want to give it a shot."
Melissa had a tiny grimace on her face and appeared to be displeased. "Marriage, in my opinion, is not a trivial matter. Try? Is it true that if this doesn't work out, you want to..."
Alexandra cut her off before she could finish "We are all adults, Miss Melissa. Naturally, we would never wish for a love that does not exist. We all have a clear idea of what we desire."
Melissa remained silent and fixed her gaze on him.
On the surface, this man appeared to be calm and unassuming. He'd make an excellent husband.
But could she truly trust this man she'd just met twice with the rest of her life?
Really?
Alexandra added, observing her hesitation, "Maybe it was impatience on my part that I didn't consider your feelings. You have the option to reconsider if you believe I am suitable. I'll be ready when you call."
Melissa had been thinking about it all night after going home that day.
She acknowledged that she shared some of Alexandra's viewpoints. She, for example, believed that there was no such thing as true love in the world.
She had been profoundly injured and no longer believed in the existence of love in the world.
Melissa called Alexandra early the next morning after a restless night to tell him she had accepted his so-called proposal.
Melissa took her passport and headed to City Hall with Alexandra in the afternoon to register their marriage.
She had conflicting feelings as they collected their belongings and went out of City Hall together.
Marriage was always thought to represent the beginning of a new life for women, but it now appeared to be so simple. It was only $8 to get a certificate stating that Melissa was now Alexandra's legal property.
After that, Melissa moved into Alexandra's flat.
Alexandra had acted chivalrously that evening. He took the initiative to leave her alone in the main bedroom while he slept in another room.
Melissa had not anticipated Alexandra to give her his credit card before he left for work today.
They didn't even recognize each other. How could he be so certain about giving her all of his possessions?
"Karen, the media reporters are waiting inside, and the directors and the new boss are on their way. Why are you in such a fog right now?"
Melissa's thinking was interrupted by the gruff voice of Freddy, the Public Relations Manager. "Manager Freddy, I'm sorry, I'll pay attention," she hastily drew back her thoughts and said with a straight smile.
Freddy took a hard look at Melissa and remarked, "Despite the fact that you work in the Sales department, your management has assigned you to the Public Relations Department. You'd better get up and get out of here before you take me down with you."
Melissa nodded and pursed her lips. "I was simply distracted, Manager Freddy. It's not going to happen again."
Freddy returned his gaze to Melissa before averting his gaze. She clapped her hands and motioned for many staff who were also in charge of reception to come over.
"Everyone should give it they're all. Today's press conference must go off without a hitch. We can't afford to make any errors." Freddy gazed at each employee as he spoke.
