Chapter 3

Victor's POV My gaze darkened as I suddenly got curious about this lady and what she was up to. Her bravery was on another level! “I hope your tip is worth it,” I paused, my deep voice filling the air. “What is this tip of yours?” “Someone is leaking the information to another company. You would end up losing the contract, and that would be the end of Blackwood Cooperative,” she replied with certainty laced in her voice. God. I almost fell for the tip. “Young lady, what did you take me for? Did you think I was those men you could make cheap jokes with just to get into your pants?” I asked coldly, my gaze fixed on her as I slowly studied her facial expression. She blinked her eyes at my words before moving her face closer to mine. “Mr. Blackwood, s*x is the least of my worries. Besides, there are hundreds of men begging to have me on their bed,” she challenged. “If you don't believe me, let's make a bet.” I bit my lips at her words, a moment of silence between us. “What is your name?” I asked, wondering where she got this braveness from. She moved back, returning to her normal posture before replying, “I am Rose Solomon.” My brow narrowed at the name “Solomon.” I can't believe the daughter of the man I want to take everything from was in front of me, wanting to play games with me. “Rose, what could you bet with?” I asked calmly, my gaze not leaving her. “What if I bet with my life?” Her question made my stomach twitch. It took me a while to confirm she wasn't joking about betting with her life. “If you find out about the spy, you will do what I want. But if you don't, you can do whatever you want with me, even though you want to kill me.” I smiled faintly, not knowing what to think of her. Is she stupid or wise? Because no one would put their life on the line just for a bet! “Here is my card. I would call to decide your fate tomorrow,” I said before stretching my card over to her, my eyes roaming over her body as she stood up to receive it. She looks way too pretty and curvy. Hell! I am not supposed to be admiring her. I am supposed to be planning what to do with her. Kidnap and make everything that belongs to Solomon mine… “Sir, I think we still have to review the terms with C&D Limited before consenting to the partnership,” my secretary's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I raised my gaze to meet him before I began. “Martins, the company. Going through financial hardship. We need C&D's partnership.” “But sir, the deal is worth—” “Martins, we are done with this topic!” I interrupted loudly, wondering why he was still talking about this. “My decisions are final. If you don't go with you, you can quit working with me,” I added coldly, my voice void of emotion. Yes, I had just two principles when I worked: profit and no emotions! What matters to me is the profit a certain deal brings to me, and I always make sure my emotions don't block my way of achieving my bigger goals. “Martins, give me a moment. I think my guest forgot her necklace,” I informed him before I stood up, hoping to meet Rose. I left the bar but couldn't find her anywhere around the vicinity. After searching for a while, I gave up. Maybe when we meet again, I will give back. I returned to the bar, looking exhausted. My steps faltered upon hearing a weird line from Martins, which goes, “We are almost done. The moment D&S agrees to sign the contract, we are going to leak everything. We are going to make it seem like he is nothing but a copycat.” Was Rose right? So I was going to lose a deal worth a trillion dollars all because of Martins? The man I trusted and had kept no secret from? Hell! I need someone to tell me I was dreaming. “Oh, you are back?” His voice echoed nervously the moment he noticed my presence, snapping me out of my thoughts. “Martins, so you were the motherfucker behind my downfall? All this while, I have been relying on you not knowing you were the one behind my downfall. My voice cracked off as my words rolled out in a questioning tone, broken by the fact that I trusted the wrong guy. I have always known the world to be full of people who shouldn't be trusted, but why Martins of all people? Why was the guy I took like my brother? “Sir, what are you—” Before he could victimize himself, I sent a punch across his face, making him stagger to the ground. I wanted to punch him for the second time, but I refrained from doing so because I was in the crowd. I can't give the world another chance to hurt me! I am done getting hurt! I am done trusting people! And damn… that word 'trust' shouldn't have existed in the first place. My mind flashed back to Rose's words, reminding me of the bet. Not only did I lose the bet, but I was going to do whatever she wanted!
