- Reika’s P.O.V -
I was going back to the palace from Crescent Moon late at night when I heard very loud noises in the distance.
I ran faster to see what was happening when I found the people gathered around the palace screaming.
Traitor
Liar
Killer
What was happening?
I approach the area more and they were the people… my people… burning down the palace.
I ran around the place and entered from the doors I usually ran away from when I wanted to meet with Ethan and ran to our hideout.
I found my mother and brothers there.
“What’s happening?” I ask.
“We don’t know, suddenly the people started gathering around the palace and lighting whatever they find on fire. I’m worried soon they’ll get in,” my mother explained.
“Reika please, take your brothers and go,” she told me.
“What? Are you crazy? I’m not leaving without you,” I said.
I entered the hideout and sat down next to her with my two brothers.
“What is happening out there?” I ask her but she shakes her head.
“Suddenly the people started throwing things at the windows and burning the trees surrounding us, I have no idea what’s happening?” She explains.
“Where’s Malik?” I ask.
“I would say he has something to do with this but I’ll s**t up instead,” she says to herself but I couldn’t help but hear her.
“How could he turn everyone against us?” I ask trying to make sense of what she just said.
“I don’t know Reika, werewolves don’t make much sense either but you’re one aren’t you?” She spoke.
I knew she was nervous which caused her to say things without knowing it so I did not say much about it.
“We’ll find a way out,” I tell her and get up.
“Reika if you go out there now you won’t be able to come back, so plz take your brothers and go,” she said but I wouldn’t listen.
I ran towards the door and found a hidden area behind the palace. It was dark meaning no one got there yet so I turned around and varied one of my brothers and took the hand of the other. I was the only one who knew where to go which was safe so I took a shot.
“Mom let’s go,” I said.
“I can’t leave,” she rejected.
“What do you mean you can’t leave?” I look at her in disbelief.
“It means I can’t. Just go!” She said.
I didn’t understand a thing. Suddenly Kratos is in flames and my mother isn’t making sense of anything.
“I’ll be back for you, hang on I won’t take long,” I said then took off.
I ran through the woods with my brothers as fast as I could and reached the spot Ethan and I usually meet without anyone seeing us.
I didn’t have the blade with me so I ripped my shirt open and used one of the trees around us to get my mate’s attention.
Shortly after, I see Ethan running in our direction.
“You didn’t use the blade,” he said before looking at the two young boys with me.
“Kratos, everything is burnt the palace is down the people hate us, please Ethan, please take my brothers and keep them safe,” I beg him.
“What about you?” He asked.
“I have to go get my mother, she’s stuck in the hideout,” I explain.
“I’ll have one of my betas take your brothers, I’m coming with you,” he says.
“Absolutely not, you’re an Alpha and a King, your pack needs you so if anything happens to you, they’ll have to deal with that loss,” I tell him and turn to my brothers and kneel.
“Promise you won't get scared. Ethan will take care of you until mom and I come to get you okay?” I tell them.
“What about Josie?” The youngest asks.
“I’ll get her too?” I tell him with a forced smile and stand up.
“Thank you,” I tell Ethan and he nods.
I then start running back to the palace as fast as I could and as soon as I got there, I quietly made my way back to the hideout but unfortunately, I was too late.
Malik had cornered my mother with a g*n pressed against her forehead.
“What are you doing?” I ask my voice shaky.
“I’m doing the world a pleasure,” he answers me without looking.
“Malik please,” I beg.
“You know,” he takes back his weapon.
“Your little sister is very witty,” he started.
“But she’s also very stupid,” he continued.
I was silently listening to the psychopath talk sh*t about my missing sibling.
“In case you’re wondering what I mean, we made a deal that I’d bring you two alive as long as she mind controls everyone here to turn against you,” he explained.
“Why would you do that?” I ask with a disgusted look.
“Because I need an army. Artemis isn’t as big as Kratos and they’re not trained to fight, especially not shapeshifters,” he replied.
“Of course,” my mother laughs at herself.
“Oh god I feel so stupid,” she laughs even more.
“Of course all you wanted is Kratos but not only that. You need the secret it has,” she said making me all the more confused.
“Ah, finally Helena understood what was happening. You see your husband was never very fond of your daughter which is why he married her to me. I would gladly k*ll he now and then go find her mate hit, unfortunately, I don’t have the power to take down an entire pack just yet,” he spoke.
“Kratos is hiding the secret of how to k*ll and Alpha King and you, Helena, are going to give it to me, or else you little Josie will meet you past lover before you do,” he says making my blood boil.
“Malik shut up!” I scream.
“Poor Reika,” he looks at me.
“You didn’t even wait for our honeymoon to end before you run to your mate. How stupid of you to believe I didn’t notice anything,” he approached me.
“So what do you say? I k*ll your sister or you mother?” He asks me.
“You won’t kill either,” I look back at him.
“How are you so sure?” He tilts his head.
“You still need Josie for your mind games, don’t you. And my mother for the secret or whatever,” I explain trying to buy us time.
“Hmm,”
“I didn’t really think of it like that. That means you’re completely useless,” he raises his weapon.
“Permission to pull the trigger?” He presses the metal against my skull.
“WAIT,”
“Please, Malik. I’ll give you whatever you need but let her go,” my mother shouts.
Malik turns around now pouting at mom.
“I’ll tell you where to find the book,” she says.
“Mom, please,” my eyes full up with tears.
“I don’t care what you do to me after it let Reika and Josie free, I’ll do whatever you want, I promise,” she ignores me.
“Mom!” I raise my voice.
Malik stands still his arm still pointing at mom. She was crying as much as I was but she was trying to keep us alive.
“Alright,” he retracts his weapon once again.
“Last words?” He mocks and mom approaches me.
“Your mate needs you,” she whispers as she hugs me.
“Your sister and brothers need you. Promise me you’ll take care of them,” she speaks in my ear.
“No, no you’ll protect them with me, mom,” I hug her back.
“I Reika, my sweet, I killed Aaron,” she wipes my tears away. I did it all for a reason, now run,” she says and pushes me back.
“What you need is outside,” she turns and tells the psychopath.
“But first tell us where Josie is,” she continues.
He shifts his eyes between the both of us and sighs.
“She’ll find you,” that was all this sh*t head would say.
“Follow me,” my mother says and starts walking out of the hideout.
She looks at me one last time.
“Reika you need to leave,” she says.
“But,”
“LEAVE!” She shouts the tears in her eyes.
I look at her one last second before I start running in the opposite direction.
- Queen Helena’s P.O.V -
“Where’s the book, come on Helena,” Malik strengthens his grip around his weapon.
“It’s here,” I stood next to a statue outside in the last intact place of the palace.
“Where is it!” He says again.
“I witnessed my lover die because of Artemis, I had to hide my daughter’s identity because of Artemis, I married Aaron because of you, I raised Reika as human because of you” I could still see Reika’s figure running.
“Now you’re asking me to hand over a guide that would kill her,” I say.
“I'm never giving you that book, Malik. Not even over my dead body,” I tell him and he widens his eyes.
“You b*tch,” he raised his g*n at me again.
“You won’t need that,” I tell him.
“What?” He asked.
This palace was built over minefields. It was built that way for a reason. All I needed to do was press one tiny button and destroy the place and k*ll everyone around it.
“I'm never going to give you the army you want, I’m never going to let you people destroy the wolves! I made a promise to deliver the Alpha King so werewolves could gain all the power and that’s exactly what I’m doing right now,” I tell him making him even angrier.
His plan failed.
“YOU B*TCH,” he screamed.
“You’re the human the wolf loved, Reika is the Alpha King,” he was starting to realize everything.
He started running in the opposite direction to catch up on Reika.
“Goodbye, Malik,”
- Reika’s P.O.V -
As I was running, I felt a burning sensation in my heart for leaving my mother behind. I turned back to see the palace burning in flames and my tears fell faster.
I made the crazy decision to go back for mom and fight that son of b*tch until I got her back.
I was running as fast as I could until I felt my legs burn beneath me. I ran and ran and ran until I felt a strong force carry me and throw me against the ground.
I rolled over for a couple of meters scratching my arms and legs as I grabbed everything around me trying to stop.
I was on the ground for a second before I stood back up the blood covering me. I looked towards the palace and I couldn’t see it anymore.
It was gone.
I fell to my knees and screamed knowing what just happened.
“MOM!!” I screamed.
I cried in my spot for minutes before I started to see black spots and the rocks flying from Kratos was the last thing I remembered before I lost consciousness.
******
I start to open my eyes after I don’t know how long and found Ethan and his Beta standing above me.
“Welcome back,” Ethan said.
I sit up ignoring the pain all over my body. Luckily being a werewolf heals wounds fast but I still could feel the impact.
“How long have I been out?” I asked.
“Two days,” Ethan answered.
“Two days?” I was surprised to I didn’t wake up earlier.
“Your injuries were severe. Usually, a mate feels a tingle when the other is wounded but with you, I started bleeding,” he explained.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“You survived an explosion Reika, there’s nothing to be sorry about,” he sits next to me.
I looked at Ethan and tried not to cry but he felt everything I did.
“Wait outside, he told his beta,” and he nodded leaving the room.
As soon as we were alone, I started crying and Ethan hugged me tightly.
“She’s gone,” I manage to say.
“She’s gone,”
